THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2: Jamie Foxx On Electro's Costume, Fan Criticism And More
Talking about the different versions which were considered for Electro's appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 and the reaction to his casting which he saw on various "blogs" (has he visited CBM?), Jamie Foxx also discusses making sure that his take on the villain isn't comedic and more!
"It used to be people would wait until they saw the film to decide their opinion," Jamie Foxx told Empire Magazine when they asked him for his thoughts on any negative backlash he may have seen in regards to the fact he was cast as Max Dillon/Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2. "Now it's, 'Ben Affleck is Batman?! How [frick]ing dare you!' What's that all about? These blogs don't like anything. Christian Bale. Heath Ledger. They weren't happy - until they saw them. So you have to not give too much to it." As for his costume in the Marc Webb helmed sequel, Foxx revealed that they considered a number of looks - including a Dr. Manhattan type of appearance - before settling on the one we've seen in stills and trailers. "We tried a few different versions of the look. There were some that involved a lot more blue, but this one just looked the best. And it cut the make-up down from four hours to about one-and-a-half, which is good for me. I like this suit. The suit works. It's badass. I could wear this to the clubs." Finally, when it comes to his portrayal of Electro, he added: "I didn't want Electro to be funny at all. There were lines I thought he shouldn't say...this is a man who's angry. He's mad at the gods. He's just using Spider-Man and these people as an excuse to act out and be evil. The voice is from me watching Clint Eastwood and Alec Baldwin. The great whisperers."
