ARROW HUNTS DOWN SHRAPNEL — Oliver must tackle a new threat to the city when bombs start to go off in Starling City. Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) discovers the person setting them off is Mark Sheffner (guest star Sean Maher), a man who goes by the nickname Shrapnel. Arrow discovers Shrapnel’s next target is Sebastian Blood’s (guest star Kevin Alejandro) “Unity Rally” and tries to talk the alderman out of hosting it, but he refuses. Arrow sets off to stop the bombing, but Shrapnel tricks him and traps him in a bomb-laced antique store where he is unable to move without setting off the device. While Felicity helps Oliver, Diggle (David Ramsey) races to the plaza to find the bomb before it goes off. Meanwhile, Roy (Colton Haynes) continues to hide his new strength from Thea (Willa Holland) but, after she witnesses his super strength in action at the rally, she demands answers. Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) suspicions about Sebastian grow stronger once she learns that he grew up with Cyrus Gold, the man who killed Lance’s (Paul Blackthorne) partner. After Donner (guest Star Dylan Bruce) refuses to help her investigate, she turns to Arrow (Stephen Amell) for help. Rob Hardy directed the episode written by Jake Coburn & Keto Shimizu.

Looks like Shrapnel will be just a regular guy who sets off bombs, no powers or looking like the character from the comicbooks.

Guys, I read that Laurel would have a big arc soon ... the actress better start leveling up her game and stop whining cause I really don't like her(the character, the actress is fine), which is a shame for a character we are supposed to root for ....

I stopped watching half way through season 1. I hear it got good though in season 2. Though I am not one for the brooding mellow drama anti-hero shtick I think I will give it a try and put it up on my Raspberry in the next few days.

I assume Deathstrokes character made a complete 180 in season two? He was pretty much a poor mans Jason while I was watching.

@Magus

Wasn't Deathstroke

@Arrowhead

The way the writers love fast pace don't be surprised if Ollie randomly finds out about Slade in this episode. They won't drag it out, which is a shame sometimes.

No idea why people don't want this to be a part of the broader DC film universe. Recently binge watched the whole thing, and it's really excellent. Gives me everything I want from the DC films:

- Excites me about a new property I wasn't previous familiar with in a way Green Lantern failed to do.

- Darkness without pandering like Man of Steel or the latter two Dark Knight films.

- Excellent action choreography that puts everything the Nolan trilogy offered to shame.

- Sharp writing including likable characters who speak like real people, even though they inhabit a very unreal world. (Unlike, say, Goyer.)

- Competent acting, with plenty of chemistry between everyone involved. Most notably the core trio, which is something a lot of television shows just entering their second season still wouldn't have a handle on.

- Perhaps most importantly, it's not ashamed of its roots. Comic book villains, often over the top like the cheesy, scene chewing Count Vertigo. The name, which granted it does take awhile for him to be 'Arrow,' but it pops up naturally. (Unlike the in-your-face 'That's what they're calling him, sir.')

The CW label put me off of watching this for far too long. I would say it's a step up from Smallville, but it's not even in the same league. Frankly, I'm looking forward more to what the DC television universe has to offer than what's on the film horizon. Bring on Gustin's Flash, and long live Arrow.
