Chiwetel Ejiofor Says "We'll Just Have To See" About His Possible Role In STAR WARS EPISODE VII

The actor, who delivered arguably one of the greatest performances of this generation in Steve McQueen's 12 Years a Slave, will neither confirm or deny earlier rumours about him having a role in J.J. Abrams' Star Wars Episode VII. Hit the jump for his comments in full!

"Who knows? We'll just have to see," Chiwetel Ejiofor teased when Yahoo! Movies asked him if there are any truth to the rumours that he will have a role in Star Wars Episode VII. Following the news that Michael Fassbender has met with director J.J. Abrams and reports last year that Benedict Cumberbatch will be in the movie, this would very much make it a 12 Years a Slave cast reunion (no bad thing seeing as that has been hailed as one of the greatest films ever made). "I don't know is really the only answer I can give you. I'm a huge fan of that world and JJ, but I don't know. I can't tell you. There are a lot of things that would be great to play and to investigate if I spent enough time thinking about it, but really it's to try and see what actually does happen, what materialises... and figure out what the great stories are." Do you guys think we'll see him in Star Wars Episode VII? Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

Calrission Jr is too easy and cliche'. I say expand the racial diversity population to more than Lando and Windu families.

I just don't see this guy as Black Panther. I'd rather see him as Man Ape and have Aldis Hodge play T'Challa

Is that '12 years a Slave' really a GREAT movie? The US media loves nothing more than a slave or minority overcoming the odds flick IE; shit film like 'blind side'... Oscar nom, really?? And sorry asians, latins etc, it has to be a black minority overcoming the odds to get their attention. You're just the wrong minority.

Between Oprah and the majority of the US media I honestly can't trust their opinions anymore. 'Precious' was supposed to be the movie to end all movies! Yeah... sure.

Look, I love being entertained, and I could care less if the movie was about ants taking a dump, if the shit's good (no pun), then I'll watch and appreciate.

And I say Idris Alba for BP, new Lando and whatever else he wants to do. I do enjoy him!

I said the same thing. When I read the title discription...I have heard it was good, but aren't all slave based films? It doesn't really sell it for me, I know he's a great actor because I've seen some of his work. Let's get a Marcus Garvey, Mansa Musa or Shaka Zulu movie. I highly doubt they'll make those because it pertains Africans at a high arc in power. I'm sure the film is good though, but it just gets old that films like these or urban gun shooters have to win over audiences in Hollywood. Again I'm sure his role was great and all but all the hype surrounding films like those just don't fully sell me.

Nerd, I hear you, and I should have actually quoted what this article said: "one of the greatest movies ever made".

Until I see it, I can't say anything either way, but that's crazy high praise. I just can't trust the US media when it comes to a movie review with racial overtones. They always seem to bump it up a few points simply based on the material, and for me, that's bullshit.

You're implying quite a bit with no evidence. 12 Years a Slave IS one of the greatest movies ever made. The script is near flawless, Steve McQueen's visual art sensibilities translated perfectly to screen, the acting across the board was some of the best of the year.

It's not a perfect film, no film is. Its' biggest flaw is that while we know this takes place over 12 Years (duh) when you watch the film it doesn't quite feel like that, so that just goes to some minor pacing issues.

Overall it's the best film I've seen all year, hell, probably the best film I've seen in the past decade. And it's the best film about American slavery ever made.

And Chiwetel owned the role of Solomon Northrup, he's tremendous. He's been a great actor for over a decade now, but I think with this role he proved he should be as hyped a name as Idris and Fassbender. If I'm casting a movie I'm trying to get him for any role.

*Also, one of the most talked about potential Best Picture nominees to "upset" 12 Years is Gravity; and if you want an example of an overhyped film THERE is your example. I really liked Gravity, but it's mostly about the visual spectacle in IMAX 3D (much like Avatar). It's actually not a particularly strong movie overall (weak dialogue, repetitiveness, etc...)

I'm very skeptical right now. I've read allot of the books, there's is already a established universe with sequels to the movies. I see no reason to deviate totally, at least base the movie off of the established continuity.

113? Eassssyyyy ma'am. I ASKED for feedback on the film, and I stated that I haven't seen it and can't speak for it until I have. I didn't "imply" anything regarding the quality of the film. My beef is with the US media and it's apparent elevation of certain types of movies.

Nice to see some feedback, but I didn't 'diss' this movie at all, and I'm glad that you enjoyed it.

And I've seen a perfect movie. It generally is known by by the short name of 'Empire'.

I think he would be a better Black Panther than a lot of people believe. Then again.... there are a few actors who I believe would pull it off nicely ;-)
After seeing him in Serenity years ago.... something told me he was meant for "something more" :-P LOL

I love Chiwetel Ejiofor work, but refuse to watch any more slave movies. It seems black actors only get notoriety when they play a slave, cross dresser, or a criminal. None thing wrong with those roles just tired of them. Can we get a white washed slave movie?

Chiwetel was my first pick for T'Challa, Aldis Hodge has never been on my list and thats because i've heard him do a African accent twice now and both times were terrible, Chiwetel on the other hand sounds perfect. If they wish to go younger then I say Chadwick Boseman.

12 Years A Slave is in fact one of the best films in the past decade. Not only because it's a great historical piece that hasn't been shown before, but it's cinematography and harsh brutality of slavery itself. Fassbender and Chiewtell [frick]ing owned that film. If he's in Star Wars along with Fassbender then I am set. He's also my top pick for Black Panther and even better Hal Jordan (which he could [frick]ing OWN)

And 12 Years A Slave isn't just a slave film, it's so much more richer than that. From all the stories I heard of what they went through from my grandparents grandparents it's really eye opening and heart wrenching as well a poetic and thought provoking. But I do about the pacing in the film, it's the only gripe i had but it takes a .0000000001 of my enjoyment

I'm with you, Chadwick seems more of the ideal Black Panther and I would rather see Chiewtel as Hal Jordan after his demanding voice and perfrormances

It does sounds like he is involved with EP7.

I wouldn't mind seeing him play Black Panther at all.
