COMICS: First Look At Skottie Young's ROCKET RACCOON #1 - GOTG Movie Tie-In

Marvel have today released an unlettered preview of Skottie Young's Guardians of the Galaxy tie-in, featuring a tale about two characters - Rocket and Groot - who will soon likely be the favourites of fans and non-fans alike! Hit the jump for a first look at Rocket Raccoon #1.

"As defenders of the cosmos go, Rocket Raccoon has faced his fair share of galactic battles. He’s been a hero to the weak, a champion of good, a protector of the innocent, a heartthrob to the many intergalactic female species and now--a raccoon on the run?! ( I’m sorry, I’m sorry, a “formidable-and-expert-Guardian” on the run. Rocket is NOT a raccoon, okay?) Rocket’s high-flying life of adventure and heroism may soon be a thing of the past when he becomes a wanted man—and the authorities are not the only one on his TAIL! (We’ll definitely be overusing that pun!) Superstar creator Skottie Young brings his A-game as writer and artist on the series we’ve been waiting decades for. Because let’s be real, this is the only Guardian of the Galaxy you actually care about. Am I right?

I don't think this is actually a movie tie-in...

I'm digging the second cover....but the rest of the art is disgusting and hard to look at.

He's wearing the movie costume, so it is set in the same universe as far as I know.

@Josh: Nothing here mentions that it has anything to do with the film.

When a comic ties into the movies Marvel make sure people know about it. It is mentioned at least once in the solicits and there is NOTHING stating that this ties into the movie. InfiniteMonkey nailed it the only tie is the names.

Just because he's wearing the movie costume doesn't mean anything. I highly doubt this is a movie tie in. And this looks like shit. I have a feeling they're trying too hard to make RR like Deadpool.

It doesn't look bad. It's very obvious that this comic is aimed for a younger audience. That's why the cartoon-like style.

The plan is to make lots of money out of Rocket Raccoon and Groot. If GotG becomes a successful movie, I wouldn't be surprised if they make a Rocket and Groot cartoon show for the kiddies.

Rocket's original four-issue mini was drawn by Mike Mignola (pre-Hellboy.)

He once lamented in an interview with Wizard that he felt his best works as a Marvel artist were on this mini and the Fahfrd and the Grey Mouser mini, yet both sold poorly at the time...

If you're a Hellboy fan, I recommend the Grey Mouser issues highly...
