"There was something about Star-Lord that I immediately gravitated to," writer Sam Humphries told MTV News when asked what made him decide to pen Legendary Star-Lord for Marvel ahead of the release of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy movie this August. "Star-Lord was something that I felt I could have a blast with. He's a charming motherf--ker! He's a down-to-Earth individual. Everyone has a friend like Peter Quill. He's cocky, he's arrogant, but he's always got your back." As for his take on the character, it doesn't sound as if he'll be too different to his big screen counterpart played by Chris Pratt. "Peter sees himself as a legend because he can fly fast, and shoot fast, and flirt fast. But what really makes someone a legend are things buried in yourself that you didn't know you had." Star-Lord will still appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series, but this solo spin-off will seem him take on his own adventures, including a budding relationship with the X-Men's Kitty Pryde! "You can't get that more long distance than the Earth to the edge of the galaxy. They have this two-way holographic phone, and get to know each other across the stars, and see where this leads them. There's this heat on both sides, but we're going to see how their personalities actually mesh." What do you guys think about Legendary Star-Lord? Will you be picking up issue #1 this July?

Oh good... more MCU forced into the comics. I like the outfit, I really do. WAY BETTER THAN GOTG v3 but damnit, so sick of the MCU overriding 616 comics.

Sam Humphires and Jonathan Hickman are the only writers i trust with cosmic marvel. Bendis just plain sucks lately, his writing in all his books have gotten really dull outside of Uncanny X-Men, everything else he is writing, you can just tell he isn't invested. Guardians has been ok at best, i'm excited to read this. But i really hope somewhere in the near future Hickman takes the healm of Marvel cosmic titles because he sold me with Infinity!

So is Star-Lord now a pedo? Kitty's like 12, lol. Quill's like 30-40.

cosmicman: When was the last time you picked up a comic book? Star-Lord is late 20s/early 30s, and Kitty is probably around 25 now too...

Kitty was 13 in 1980. That means she's 47 now. Quill was at least 20 when he was introduced in 1976, so he's 58+ now. Not exactly a May-December romance. #realist #marveltimesucks

Its about time! Star Lord deserves his own series... Now if only they could bring back his classic costume, this new one is crap.

Am I the only one that is bothered that Star-Lord is wearing the MCU costume and is not wearing a full helmet? Again, I get that comics can change things up a bit and they want to sell more comics and get people into them after seeing these films. I am just concerned these films might actually [frick] with with the 616 canon.
