BOX OFFICE: THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 Passes $130 Million Overseas

While the Marc Webb helmed sequel has had something of a mixed reaction here on CBM and with some other critics, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 earned an additional $67.2 million from overseas this weekend, giving it a current worldwide total of over $130 million before its North America debut...

This is undeniably a very good start for The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and it will likely add an awful lot more to the numbers above when it opens in North America and key foreign territories China and Brazil on Friday. Back in 2012, The Amazing Spider-Man earned a total of $752 million, but the sequel faces some very stiff competition in the coming weeks from the likes of Godzilla and X-Men: Days of Future Past. That and word of mouth will play a big role in its success, and it should be interesting to see whether it earns more or less than the first movie. What do you think?

I the the general audience will mop this s**t up with a biscuit and ask for seconds.

My misses and all of my work colleagues (all GA no matter how well informed I keep them), loved the movie and thought it was far better than CA:TWS. A couple of them have said that 'The Amazing Spiderman 2" really 'felt' like what a comic book movie should be like.

The fact that none of these people have actually never read a comic is not lost on me.

A solid 7 outta 10 for me... watched Cap 2 again this weekend and enjoyed it even more, it has now eclypsed Ironman as my secong fave movie of the MCU.

worstusernameever- really people you know actually said that? just goes to prove how stupid the GA can be lol. everyone i know that has seen AS2 and TWS preferred TWS.
TWS has also now passed iron man 2 as the 4th best selling MCU film

Each film in the series has made around $750-900k its a given with these films;

$821,708,551 - Spider-man
$783,766,341 - Spider-man 2;
$890,871,626 - Spider-man 3;
$752,216,557 - The Amazing Spider-man

It doesn't matter the quality, heck... Spider-man 3 grossed the most out of any of the films... So lets be honest The Amazing Spider-man 2 will probably earn around the same $750-900k. It doesn't matter if its good or bad, it'll still make that region.

Josh is just crossing his fingers that it breaks apart after Godzilla. I think Godzilla will beat it but I think it is probably going to end up being more along the lines of Godzilla earning a little more The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The real thing that will hurt The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is X-Men: Days of Future Past, because it will be pushed further down into third place (most likely). I'm surprised The Amazing Spider-Man 2 hasn't gone for the Asian territories yet which will be dominated by Godzilla. That is the place I would've opened in first.

"I the the general audience will mop this s**t up with a biscuit and ask for seconds."

All this bashing of the so-called general audience is dumb, IMO. Nowadays, they are A LOT more informed that people give them credit for. Heck, most "general audience" members I talk to absolutely HATED the first TASM, and are pretty wary of the 2nd...while most fanboys loved both. I guess it depends on personal experience. But make no mistake, the general audience isn't a bunch of mindless sheep who think every movie is perfect. Give them more credit than that.

I don't see this getting to a billion, but I do think it'll hit around the 700 million mark.

No way does Godzilla top Spidey. Godzilla will do a max of $550-$600 million (although I have a feeling it'll do even less)

TWS made more money by his second weekend but I think ASM2 opened in less countries (but just a few), mostly the ones that don't even make 3 millions at the end.

Spidey WILL make 800million to 1billion without a doubt, there's no denying it. May is going to be a very competitive month without a doubt. I guess marvel/Disney wanted to avoid the major competition. Smart choice if you as me!

It's a real shame they had to release it overseas first. The bootleg was up and trading a week and a half ago, and pretty much everyone I know has already seen it. The spoilers are rampant. I might as well watch the bootleg since I know everything that happens. They should rethink this practice of holding back the American release.
