According to The Hollywood Reporter, Captain America: The Winter Soldier's current domestic total of $224.9 million makes it the top grossing April release of all-time in North America, beating 2011's Fast Five. This is significant because analysts predicted that the Marvel Studios would NOT surprass the record held by the fifth instalment of the Fast & Furious franchise. Meanwhile, with a worldwide total of $645.2 million, the movie has beaten Thor: The Dark World ($645.2 million vs. $644.8 million) to become the third biggest Marvel Studios movie ever. It has also been reported today that it WILL surpass $700 million. Domestically, it still has some way to go before topping Iron Man 2's $312 million to tae fourth place. It was a smart strategy, release the movie in April before blockbuster season with minimal to no competition and it stays on top for 3 weeks.

Very glad to hear all of this. Nice hearing that $700 million worldwide is likely. I wonder just how far past $700 million it will be able to go if it reaches it.

I believe $750 million would be the absolute maximum anyone could expect this finish with.

I'd also say that it won't hit $300 million in North America, would be nice if it could finish in the $270-$280 million range though.

avengers has flaws,it takes a little while to get going and its thin on plot BUT it is a GOOD definition of a summer blockbuster,it has good characters, good humor and action,it is , as whedon said, an homage to the summer blockbusters he grew up with
