UPDATE: Edgar Wright breaks silence with a silent "Selfie."

Director Edgar Wright breaks silence with a "Selfie" showing a sad Buster Keaton holding a Cornetto ice cream bar.

In 1928, legendary actor Buster Keaton had worked on 31 films independently, then he signed on with MGM and made the biggest mistake of his career, he would never again be completely free to create his independent work. He once said :

"In 1928, I made the worst mistake of my career. Against my better judgment I let Joe Schenck talk me into giving up my own studio to make pictures at booming Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer lot in Culver City.”

Perhaps this sentiment is what Director Edgar Wright is trying to convey through this "Selfie." Here you see actor Buster Keaton in a very sad state holding a Cornetto ice cream bar.

It's not clear what he meant with this symbolism, but a picture is worth a thousand words. If you draw parallels between his situation and Keaton's, Wright might feel like he made the biggest mistake of his career by working with Marvel. This of course is going to add more fuel to the fire when it comes to speculating what were the true reasons he left Marvel's Ant-Man since it has been rumored that Wright departed the project after Marvel betrayed his artistic integrity by ordering rewrites behind his back.

Of course the parallels are not exactly the same, the fact that Wright was able to walk away from Ant-Man shows that he is not being slaved by an studio to produce movies he doesn't want to make.  Never mind that he has directed 3 semi-independent movies (Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim, and The World's End)  while he was working with Marvel to develop Ant-Man.

What do guys think? Could the "Selfie" be interpreted differently? Did Wright made a mistake by working with Marvel? Who do you think will replace Wright? Leave your thoughts down bellow and thank you reading.

UPDATE: Edgar Wright has deleted his "Selfie" from his twitter feed ( As you can see the tweet embeded above doesn't work anymore and the source doesn't exits either.) It is still unclear what he meant by posting the "selfie" in the first place and the fact he deleted it will raise even more questions.  Perhaps this was an efford to avoid burning bridges but unfortunetely once something is out there for eveyone to see it's pretty inpossible to undo.

I was so pissed off at first but the more I think about it, the more I don't really care. Part of that is because the day Wright left is the day hope for this movie vanished.

My interest in Ant-Man has plummeted since I heard this news.

Edgar Wright is one of my favorite directors and it hurts knowing we will never see the movie he wanted to make.

I still trust marvel though. But if the movie Fail, not an ounce of me will be surprised.

It's ungrateful from Marvel to not give the man the respect that he deserves since he worked on the damn project since 2006. Without him the idea of an Ant-Man film would not even be floating around at all.

Man, this [frick]ing sucks. I hope to god that Marvel picks a good replacement

It's hard for me to care for Ant-Man as a character/film when there are so many other more deserving Marvel characters needing the movie treatment.
Mainly BLACK PANTHER!...yea,yea,rumor has it he's getting one but until I know it's actually filming I won't be satisfied.
BP is far superior character than Ant-Man despite Pym being a founding Avenger.

After the out-of-box choice The Russo bros. were and how they delivered one of the best CBM's of all time, we really shouldn't be worried about the choice marvel make for the new director. Although it's still a chance they might just go with a "Yes Man".... I'm looking at you Jim Carrey.

If they go forward with Wright's movie, what does that say about a sequel (if the film is even good and they bother to make a sequel)? They can't replicate it, which is why I'd prefer them to tweak a lot of what Wright had in place with a new writer that they TRUST and won't force out, not the shitty ones that were described in the report.

I'm not choosing sides, but faults were made on both sides.

Honestly, & IDC what anyone says, they need to pull a Batman Vs Superman. Push back Ant Man. Don't rush it. That's the last thing we need.

What the hell could could have been so unacceptable about Edgar Wright's plan that this appeared to be the best solution? It seems like such a huge disservice to all the years that Marvel and Wright together put into it.

@MrCBM56

I have a feeling that Marvel snagging the original BvS July release date might have contributed to the production getting turned on its head. This all might not have happened if they didn't rush and kept it a fall release.

Sucks because Michael Pena said the script was phenomenal, Evangeline Lilly carefully picks her roles (these days) and her films are great, Douglas is Douglas and I never imagined Rudd to ever pick up a CBM script.

I don't care. I trust in the MCU. I still like Wright as a director. I think he's much better as an independent. He will still do a cbm. That movie will be the shit. I cannot wait for the day.
