John Barrowman Bumped Up To Series Regular For ARROW Season 3

After last night's season finale, it was safe to assume that John Barrowman's Dark Archer would have a bigger role next season, and now it seems like Arrow star, Stephen Amell, has seemingly confirmed it revealing that the show has added Barrowman as a series regular. Check it out!

Series star Stephen Amell has more or less confirmed that John Barrowman, who plays Malcolm Merlyn, will be made a series regular for Season 3. This is probably not surprising news, especially after the events of last night's season finale. How Oliver's story plays into Merlyn & Thea's is yet to be seen. The CW hasn't made an official announcement yet, but one should be expected shortly. Check out Amell's tweet below:

After a violent shipwreck, billionaire playboy Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) was missing and presumed dead for five years before being discovered alive on a remote island in the Pacific. He returned home to Starling City, bent on righting the wrongs of his family and fighting injustice. To do this, he creates the persona of the Arrow and allies himself with former military man John Diggle (David Ramsey), computer-science expert Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), street brawler Roy Harper (Colton Haynes) and international assassin Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), while keeping his secret from those closest to him including his sister Thea (Willa Holland), who has allied herself with his most deadly enemy. Rivalries and allegiances will shift as Oliver faces his most difficult challenge yet. Based on characters appearing in comic books and graphic novels published by DC Entertainment, ARROW is from Bonanza Productions Inc. in association with Berlanti Productions and Warner Bros. Television, with executive producers Greg Berlanti (“Green Lantern,” “Brothers & Sisters”), Marc Guggenheim (“Eli Stone,” “Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters”), Andrew Kreisberg (“Warehouse 13,” “The Vampire Diaries”) and Sarah Schechter.

Arrow is a modern retelling of the DC Comic character Green Arrow. Multi-millionaire playboy Oliver Queen is missing, and presumed dead after a shipwreck at sea. He is found five years later, having survived on a desert island off his wits and by mastering the bow and arrow. When he returns to Starling City however, he discovers that it is rife with corruption and crime. Oliver decides to put his skills to use by taking on the persona of Arrow and becoming the vigilante that Starling City needs.

Arrow features:
Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/Arrow
Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak
David Ramsey as John Diggle
Willa Holland as Thea Queen
Katie Cassidy as Laurel Lance
Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance
Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke
Colton Haynes as Roy Harper
Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/Canary
John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn/Dark Archer

Arrow returns Fall 2014.

I hope he isn't the main villain, I'd rather he was just recurring

Since when is Merlyn called "Dark Archer"...? And since when is Green Arrow called "The Arrow"? So much fail.

Paul Blackthorne as Detective Quentin Lance - so he is not dead, if it's series regular cast-list.

Caity Lotz as Sara Lance/Canary
AWWW! She will back too! ^___^

Manu Bennett as Slade Wilson/Deathstroke
Interesting, more Slade again and this is 100% not flashbacks anymore. Hmmm))

Every DC character that appears on this show gets butchered. What they did to Shrapnel was a complete joke.

Train Thea to get revenge on Oliver for the lies. All while trying to evade the League of Assasins. I also expect a new adversary to present themselves for Season 3. Maybe whoever Ollie encounters while in Hong Komg in flashbacks. And Baby Mama drama may appear...

If Stephen Amell would keep growing that beard out . . . How awesome would that be for season 3?

The Arrow season finale was amazing and the characters on the show have been handled petty well. The AOS season finale was damn good, definitely nowhere near the level of Arrow, but still pretty damn good television, and the humor in it made it better, not every show has to be this dark, bleak, and hopeless hour of depression, y'all must never get any p*ssy. Anyways, I'm glad that Malcolm will be a series regular because he's baddass AF, but I definitely don't want for him to be the main antagonist this time around, we've already been there done that. I'm hoping Ra's Al Ghul and the league of Assasains are the big bads for season 3. This 3 month wait is going to be torturous lol.

I have a feeling Waller will be a lot more involved in season 3... I hope we do get to see some super powered villains

Yikes I really like the idea of Thea becoming a Villain and Merlyn's sidekick.

But I really hope they don't rush the storyline and save it for season 3.

I have to admit, Amell is a dead ringer for Oliver Queen... I really can't picture anyone else playing him

I thought the season finale was pretty weak. I remember the show runner boasting about the finale and saying how it was going to blow last seasons outta the water. It didn't. It was pretty predictable and boring. Hopefully next season is better. I want Arrow to kill again!

@osideous The first episode of this season, I hated her attitude, but she was fine until they told her the truth about her father.

I'm kind of hoping that after she trains with Merlyn, she'll become a strong badass type of character.

@osideous I'm with you about Thea, a lot of things are understandable but really shooting the only guy in the city who can protect you from all the freaks in the city is pretty stupid. Her whiny attitude boardered on understandable to amazingly untolerable. I hope she meant what she said about not coming back.

the final episode was kinda of disapointing.most of all how ease was to ollie to beat slade in a hand to hand combat, just because slade was "out of juice".
the green team beating all those juiced up mercenaries getting out unscathed.
not a bad ending but AoS ended better IMHO.

Stop commenting on these threads, you're annoying and have nothing to contribute. They called Merlyn the dark archer in the first season.

Great news, he does a great Ninja Psycho. And are people still comparing Arrow to Batman, and saying it "ripped off" Batman? Talk about throwing a spotlight on your ignorance in a comic forum.

I personally love Merlyn the most on the show. Well, besides Diggle, but they keep giving him the short end of the stick.
