Hugo Weaving Says He Has No Idea About Appearing In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

Hugo Weaving portrayed Cap's most iconic villain, the Red Skull, in Captain America: The First Avenger, but didn't appear in its sequel. His absence left the future of the Red Skull in limbo, but with Civil War on the horizon, could we see Weaving return? Come see what he has to say!

Back in 2012, Hugo Weaving, who played the villainous Johann Schmidt a.k.a. the Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger, confirmed that he had in fact signed a multi-picture deal with Marvel, which is fairly commonplace for most Marvel actors. Even though Weaving admitted that he is probably contractually obligated to return if asked, he said he wasn't likely to return for any potential Captain America sequels, which was proven true when he didn't appear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, saying it wasn't the type of role he was looking to do again even though he did enjoy his experience on the first film.

While promoting his upcoming drama, The Mule, Weaving was asked about potentially returning as the Red Skull in the recently announced Captain America: Civil War. Based on his comments, it doesn't seem likely: "I have absolutely no idea. I haven't talked to anyone about it, so yeah, we'll just have to wait and see. No idea at all." Seems fairly conclusive, doesn't it? Or could he be hiding something like Paul Rudd was before he was officially announced as Ant-Man?

The recent news of Marvel casting Daniel Brühl as one of Civil War's villians has sparked rumors that he might be replacing Weaving as the Red Skull or possibly bringing someone like Baron Zemo to life.

What do you guys think? Would you like to see Weaving return or would you rather he not? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Following the events of the Age of Ultron, the collective governments of the world pass an act designed to regulate all superhuman activity. This polarizes opinion amongst the Avengers cause two factions that side with Iron Man (pro registration) or side with Captain America (anti registration) which causes an epic conflict between former allies.

Captain America: Civil War will feature:
Directors Anthony & Joe Russo
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man
Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa/Black Panther
Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier
Daniel Brühl in an undisclosed role

Captain America: Civil War hits theaters May 6, 2016

Haha, he's in the film.

I mean, it's money, and I know he said it's not 'his type of movie' or whatever but let's be honest, if he wanted the role, and the pay checque, Marvel would give it to him.

I just found out that he's never met Michael Bay in person.

But I definitely wouldn't mind seeing him making his return to Marvel.

Honestly I wouldn't want him in it. We have a whole Civil war storyline, a Baron Zemo storyline, a Winter Soldier storyline, a Black Panther and Iron Man storyline, and so forth. I'm not saying it's overstuffed, it seems just fine. I'm just saying adding another big villain to the storyline wouldn't work to well. I'm hoping that the events of Civil War don't end at the end of Cap 3, but rather continue on until Infinty War Part 1, where it ends in about the first act to deal with Thanos.

Besides, the Red Skull is one of Marvel's greatest villains.

Its funny how one of the very few villains that is actually interesting is probably not showing up ever again

his comments are very smart. he isnt hating on marvel at all, he said he enjoyed his experience on it. seems like hes remembering how much fun he had making it cause his recent comment makes it sound like hes open to come back.

maybe back then he never expected the success marvel would still continue to gain. looks like hes back on board. and really i would love it.

That's the most positive thing he's had to say about the franchise in years. Could he be coming back around? And hell yes to him returning, great character, great actor.

Well if Crossbones is indeed the main villain, his codename (if they use it) will make alot more sense if they tie him into the Red Skull, as in "skull and crossbones".

If he comes back cool. If he doesn't, a part with literally no face is easy to recast.

Hate it when they mention him on AoS. So forced.

But yeah, would love to see him back. You'd think he'd have had second thoughts after Avengers.

@0megaDaGod

Yeah, unless it's a post-credits scene, Red Skull really has no place in Civil War. Hell, HYDRA really shouldn't be the main focus of it, either. The core should be the rivalry between Iron Man and Cap, followed by the introduction of Black Panther as well as the return of Crossbones. Baron Zemo (should he appear) would probably be the only real link to HYDRA in the film, and even then, I'm not expecting much.

However, the Skull is one of the few Marvel villains that has an open-ended fate in the movie he was in, and the fact that he was sent into space at all should basically be the biggest hint that he'll return eventually, but it should be during Infinity War. He'd just crowd an already crowded movie in Civil War.

Batmanheisenburg- we have no baron zemo storyline in civil war that is simply a rumour just like cross bones being the main villian is a rumour.

Red Skull should have been German. It's so weird seeing this supposed Germans talk to each other in weirdly accented English, while in the background some soldiers shout actual German words.
GhostDog

I think he might return. May be lying. Red skull is too important to Cap's mythology to not be included. He is contractually obligated and he did enjoy working on the first film even if he may have not been interested in that type of role for the future. Since, Marvel has shown the capacity to craft better and more engaging stories, characters, and films overall. First avenger was a solid fun film but be great. Mavel has evolved since and has become a great studio. Maybe that's become evident to Weaving

I think Red Skull will return but I don't know if it'll be in Civil War. I mean, where would he fit? If I HAD to pick something, I think he's more likely to return in Infinity War than anywhere else. It'd be interesting if he showed up in Guardians somewhere. He did get sent out into space somewheres.

I agree with Kyos. A non-German playing Red Skull was a mistake. I won't say it was a bad casting decision because Weaving can act and served the part well. But I'd rather have someone who can speak German in the part.

@Superior Correction. He is Marvel's greatest. Maybe not in the movies, but certainly in the comics. Though he's my favorite in the movies.
