I can't make my mind up about this. I see what they are going for, a sci fi movie above just a cbm...and that sounds really good. But...its still the same studio that has screwed up so many CBM's....and I don't know if I want to shell out the money to support their butchering. But...what if this one is different?

It was weird, I went to see Ant-Man yesterday and when the trailer came up for this I heard applause. The first time I've ever heard unanimous praise for this movie.

I'm still going to watch it and hope that it's better than its predecessors. That won't be difficult to accomplish but, hopefully, this film ends up being better than any of us thought. At least, that's what I'm hoping for.

This isn't about studio rights for the general audience. This is about how a reboot can retain as much as possible the fans of the former movies while attracting new afficionados to make it a significantly more profitable movie that justify the changing of direction greenlit by someone at FOX.

This is a TASM situation : a reboot, a new direction after a first iteration that wasn't a commercial flop to start with but a critical one.

Thing is, the last two movies made enough bucks but were critically panned.

This one's main challenge will be to finally have a critically received FF4 movie while keeping and increasing the commercial successes of the previous movies.

That can happen by keeping enough fans of the former movies and by winning new ones with this new take.

Not an easy task as this new take may not be of the liking of those that would still back a third attempt in line with the old movies (a bit like some would have liked a TASM3) while buildng a new fanbase with this new take as big as the old movie had....AND that isn't guaranteed and will be even more tributary to the critical reception as usually, on a reboot, after a criticaly panned movie, more people tend to decide based on the critical score.

Thats why with a new reboot, you need to strike hard and be in a position a la BB after Batman and Robin more than a la TASM after the Raimi trilogy.

My concern is the transition from a found footage film director to a normal film. You guys have seen what happened to Neil Blomkamp. District 9 was still his best and it seems a found footage film is a different ballgame. One thing I don't want is for this movie to be mixed. There are so many haters that I literally want a "best movie ever" or "worst movie ever".

LOL! You know if this does the same numbers of Antman I wonder what hate Marveltards will say.........

Hmmm they cannot say it is flop and not a success because that would make Antman a flop as well.

And....

They cannot say the movie was a success because that would than solidify that he rights are not reverting back anytime soon.

Man I cannot wait for this movie to hit!!!!!!!!!

Even if I was a hater, I'd still see it just for El-P and Phillips Glass.

Music can make or break pivotal scenes and they got some talented people to do the music, even if El-P is only doing the credits.

It's like all the pieces are there, but whether or not it's put together well is in Trank's hands.
