Tom Cruise Teases MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 6 & A Sequel To EDGE OF TOMORROW

While promoting Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, star Tom Cruise shared a few details about Mission: Impossible 6 and it sounds like we may see Ethan Hunt again sooner than later!

Back in May, it was reported that a sixth installment in the Mission: Impossible franchise was already in early development over at Paramount and while it was considered somewhat of a rumor at the time, after Tom Cruise's appearance on last night's episode of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, it sounds like the initial report wasn't unfounded at all. Cruise revealed to Stewart that the sixth film is indeed a go, and he'll "probably start shooting it next summer." If all goes according to plan, this will be the fastest turnaround between Mission films as each of the past five installments have had lengthy separations of at least four years.

In other good news, it looks like a sequel to 2014's critically acclaimed Edge Of Tomorrow may not be completely out of the picture. In a red carpet interview with MTV News at the Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation premiere, Cruise revealed promising news about a potential sequel: “I pitched it to [Chris] McQuarrie and Doug [Liman]. We were there one night and I was like, I’ve got an idea for it.” Cruise didn't expand on his exciting idea, but he did express a very strong desire to reunite with co-star Emily Blunt and it sounds like (after a small break) she would also more than likely be back as the Full Metal Bitch: “It could be so much fun... Gotta get Emily. I was like Emily, please. She was like, ’give me another year, please.'”

Also, it should be noted that Hiroshi Sakurazaka, author of All You Need Is Kill, has been hard at work on an sequel to his hit novel for the past year, so Cruise and company may not have to go too far for some extra inspiration.

However, before Cruise gets started on his next impossible mission (and/or any additional Mimic-killing action), he'll first finish shooting the upcoming 2017 drug thriller Mena with Doug Liman and will then start shooting for the Jack Reacher sequel with Edward Zwick (The Last Samurai).

Check out Cruise's full Daily Show segment below:

I'd like some updates on Top Gun 2. Maybe they're waiting for Val Kilmer to be able to fit back into a flight suit.

@jtown904 I know right? When I went to see Edge of tomorrow I thought I was seeing Oblivion part 2.

But man.... I was wrong. I was blown away. It was in my top 5 favorite movies of last year and I brought the Blu Ray on day of release :)

Paramount only has Mission, Transformers, TMNT and Star Trek as profitable franchises. It makes sense to film the sequels sooner.

If there is a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, I hope it shows the aliens that controlled the Mimics, like in All you need is kill. So in the sequel the humans would now have to fight the real aliens. It would also be cool to see the the creatures like they were in the manga.

I wonder what crazy stunt Tom will do in the next Mission Impossible. I have a feeling he's going to want to top hanging onto an airplane. The only thing I can think of that's even more insane than that is a spaceship. I guess he could go for a free fall from space and then land on top of a building. The Google exec Alan Eustace better watch out, Tom's coming for you.

@Saga Even tho we don't agree on the X-Men stuff but I agree with you. And hell Paramount could just keep milking Transformers and put NOTHING else out and STILL will be rolling in money. Lol sad, but true.

@BlackIceJoe Good ideas man. And now that my beloved Terminator franchise is officaly DEAD.

Maybe Edge Of Tomorrow could take its place? As a new time travel/go get the bad guy type movie.

At least until Terminator gets better or the rights go BACK to James Cameron

@XMenMarvelFan

I don't know if it's happening anymore, but before the last Terminator movie came out it was reported that James would get the rights back in the year 2020. I think sadly that was the reason why a new Terminator film had to come out before then, so it's possible he won't get them back in that year anymore. But I so hope he can get the IP rights back. In the past he said he wanted to set the next one in the future and finally deal with that war, because now the CG is at the spot he'd need it to be so he can show that side of the Terminator world. So hopefully after Avatar 4 he can finally make the real T3.

Edge of Tomorrow was awesome, I'm just not sure how they're going to get a sequel out of it. Unless the Mimic are still going at it of course.

Edge of Tomorrow may in fact be one of my favorite Tom Cruise films right along with The Last Samurai and Collateral.

Tom cruise, idris, and denzel need to do a epic film together. Maybe a sci-fi epic or political thriller.
