Tom Cruise's JACK REACHER 2 Gets A Release Date

"You think I'm a hero? I am not a hero. I'm a drifter with nothing to lose." - Paramount Pictures and Sykdance Productions have just announced the release date for Ed Zwick's upcoming Jack Reacher sequel, which stars Tom Cruise as the titular hero. Come check it out!

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions have announced that Tom Cruise's Jack Reacher 2 will arrive in theaters on October 21, 2016.

Production on the yet-to-be titled film, which is set to reunite Cruise with his The Last Samurai director Ed Zwick, is expected to kick off this November, shortly after Cruise finishes shooting the drug cartel thriller Mena with Doug Liman (Edge Of Tomorrow). In addition to Cruise, Cobie Smulders (The Avengers) was also recently reported to be in talks for a lead role.

While initially reluctant to greenlight a sequel, Paramount eventually relented once they saw the original film's strong performance in international markets, where it pulled in over $138 million for a total worldwide gross of $218 million. Cruise was most recently seen in another Paramount production, the critically acclaimed Chris McQuarrie-directed Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, which has grossed over $480 million worldwide to date and is opening in China on September 8, where it is expected to do big business.

Jack Reacher 2 is just the latest addition in to a jam-packed fall 2016 lineup as it opens against Screen Gems' Underworld 5, two weeks after 20th Century Fox's Gambit, one week after Columbia's Inferno, and two weeks before Marvel's Doctor Strange

What do you guys think? Excited for Jack Reacher 2? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Damn 2016 looks packed. That's actually a pretty clever release date though. With Cruise on board, it'll be easily enough to beat Underworld 5, and Gambit's a bit of an unknown quantity to the public, even with Tatum.

Inferno might be a problem though, I can't believe DaVinci Code grossed >$700 million. But then again, they may have waited too long with the sequel.

The first one was an awesome popcorn movie. And I love Edward Zwick. I've never read the books, but I want Robert Duvall's character to return.

@KingPatel - Yeah I can see Jack Reacher doing some solid business. Agreed on Tatum, I like him, but not a lot of guys agree. Unless they cast another reasonably big star, Gambit could struggle at the Box Office. That's a good point on Da Vinci Code, I remember the hype at the time. Yeah my friend's a fan of The Lost Symbol and she's annoyed about that too. I've never read the books myself and I can't say I loved the movies either but I watch anything Tom Hanks is in so I'll probably be there in the theatre

@KingPatel - Yeah Gambit is mostly on Tatum's shoulders, but if it works he'll have the most to gain. Yeah I really like Ron Howard too, Apollo 13 and A Beautiful Mind are two of my favourite movies. Yeah I'm hoping for good things with In The Heart Of The Sea, I really liked Rush too. I'm sure you've probably heard this already but if you want to see how great Holland can be check out him in The Impossible. He brought me to the verge of tears!

@KingPatel

I'm one of those people pissed off that they're skipping over The Lost Symbol. Easily my favourite book in the series. I've just started Inferno last week and only had time to read about 40 pages, but it isn't grabbing me like the others.

Haha you and my friend would get on then. She's not a big fan of Inferno either. Maybe they'll revisit it afterwards?

Jack Reached was a pleasant surprise. Can't wait. Something different to watch since 2016 will be swamped with CBM's.
