Newcomer Ludi Lin Cast As The 'Black Ranger' In MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS Reboot

The casting news just keep pouring in. Lionsgate & Saban Entertainment have now announced that they've found another key team member for their upcoming Dean Israelite-directed Mighty Morphin Power Rangers reboot. Newcomer Ludi Lin has joined the team as Zack Taylor a.k.a. the Black Ranger (although the name is subject to change). He'll more than likely harness the "Mastodon" dinozord powers.

Lin has presumably beaten out the likes of Daniel Zovatto (It Follows), Ross Butler (Chasing Life), and Brian 'Sene' Marc (Luke Cage), who were all rumored to be up for the part in a Variety report from earlier this month. Lin now joins fellow newcomer Dacre Montgomery (Betrand The Terrible), who will be playing the Red Ranger, and Naomi Scott (The Martian), who will be playing the Pink Ranger. Based on the three castings so far, it no longer seems as though these new Rangers will be updated takes on the originals, but more like reimaginings. Regardless, check out the rumored description of the new Zack below:

Zack – 17 years old, always the life of the party. Filled with bravado and swagger, Zack’s tough and cool on the exterior. A charming guy who’s never had trouble with the one-liner, nor lacked confidence around women. A great athlete that’s never wanted to play on any team but his own. Zack advertises everything about himself, except the truth, which is that he lives in a trailer park with his single mom, and because of it, feels deeply inferior to all his peers.

Like Montgomery, Lin is also a relative unknown. His most prominent credits include an episode of Netflix's Marco Polo, and a movie titled Monster Hunt.

Check out the announcement below:

o lo

The team is coming together! #LudiLin is morphing into the #BlackRanger in 2017 for the @PowerRangersMovie.

Guess they're not making the Black Ranger black or the Yellow Ranger Chinese like the show which was criticized for this and accused of Racism. Maybe they'll make the Blue or Yellow Ranger Black.

In the 2nd season of the original Power Rangers (as well as the movie), they swapped the colors in which the Asian guy plays the Black Ranger and the Black girl plays the Yellow Ranger.

A convenient yet effective way of solving it (I guess?).

before everybody freaks out. The Black Ranger in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie wasn't African American either. It was this guy:

This movie is coming out in a January. It's doomed to suck no matter who they cast and no matter who's involved.

The character won't be Zach, it will most likely be Adam.

Adam was Asian in the original. everyone needs to chill. They'll probably use Aisha instead of Trini for the yellow ranger too.

@AlexanderLykins I'm glad Annasophia Robb didn't get involved in this. Although I want to see this, everything seems to point at a TMNT kinda film. I can definitely see her as Cassie Sandsmark aka Wonder Girl.

Well, part of her is, at least. Was she in one of the 1,000 plus Power ranger shows? I only saw the first series as a kid.

The Black Ranger is supposed to be black!
Parkerluckpersonified
Parkerluckpersonified - 10/22/2015, 12:02 PM
Pathetic that people are already saying that there should be another character cast as a black actor as if there is a quota or something.

I was annoyed when they made the torch black and this frustrates me a little as well but we can't say that casting white character with black actors is ok but you can't change black characters to be asian. that makes no sense.

Damn, this guy is way too old for this role. According to this article from 2013, he is currently 30/31.
