Tom Holland Reveals SPIDER-MAN Shooting Location; Talks Spidey's Unique Position In The MCU
In a recent interview, Marvel Studios' & Sony Pictures' new Spider-Man Tom Holland took a few moments to chat about his upcoming role & revealed where the film is expected to shoot next year. He also shared his thoughts on what makes Spidey's presence in the MCU so unique!
Last Tuesday, Marvel Studios unsurprisingly, and rather wisely, kept their new Spider-Man under wraps when they debuted the first official trailer for Captain America: Civil War. For comparison's sake, they deployed a similar tactic with The Vision's debut in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, but unfortunately for them, his look was leaked through promotional art long before the studio officially unveiled his first offical look in a magazine cover, followed by a character poster.
Fortunately for us, that shouldn't happen this time around as it's been rumored that Spider-Man will receive an extremely minimal amount of promotion, which makes sense considering he reportedly only has a small presence in the film. If we're lucky, we may not see Spidey in action until one of the final trailers and/or in a character poster that, if history is any indicator, gets released in early April before the film's premiere.
In a recent interview with SuperHeroHype, Tom Holland (In The Heart Of The Sea), while promoting his upcoming release, took a few moments to talk about landing the coveted role and shared his own personal connection with the beloved wall-crawler: “I have always been a huge fan of Spider-Man, and growing up, I had countless Spider-Man costumes, only two years ago did I go to a fancy dress party dressed as Spider-Man. I had this awesome morph suit where you can put your phone on your chest and spiders would crawl across the costume, it was awesome! He’s always been a big part of my life and a big part of boys’ lives because everybody can relate to him.”
The Civil War comic book arc was set off by the implementation of the Superhuan Registration Act, which required super-powered individuals to register their secret identities with the government. Based on the trailer alone, it doesn't seem like the movie will follow this route, save for Captan America & Iron Man going at it, but it does seem like secret identities, which the Marvel Cinematic Universe has more or less ignored to this point, will once again be in play. Holland commented on how this makes his Peter Parker an unique member of the MCU: "I think one of the most interesting things about Peter Parker for us is that he’s the only person in the MCU now that has a secret identity, so we all know who everyone else is. I think it’s quite interesting to go back to that hiding behind a mask." Now, if we're being nitpicky, that's not entirely true as Daredevil maintained a secret identity in the first season of his hit Netflix series. However, considering the Marvel movies have yet to acknowledge any of their television shows in any capacity, it's probably safe to say Spidey will be the only member of the Civil War cast, save for maybe Chadwick Boseman's Black Panther, to maintain a secret identity in the movies, barring any unforeseen surprises.
As for his own solo adventure in 2017, which is being co-produced by Marvel Studios & Sony Pictures, Holland revealed the Jon Watts-directed film will shoot in Atlanta, Georgia sometime next year and may possibly film in New York City as well at some point: "We’re shooting in Atlanta for most of it, because they have studios there and I think it’s cheaper to build a New York set than it is to shoot here, because it’s going to be very expensive. We probably will end up here (in New York) for one week or two." The Russo Brothers filmed Captain America: Civil War in "Hotlanta" as well, so Holland would be wise to heed Chris Evans' advice and find himself a nice portable fan to keep himself cool in that Spidey suit.
