Mike Mignola Would Still Like HELLBOY 3

Due to a previous interview makingit sound like the Hellboy creator doesn't want Hellboy 3 to happen, Mike Mignola clears the air on how he feels about a third movie and what would it take for it to become a possibility.

Let's be honest, everybody here on this site knows I'm a big Hellboy fan. Love the movies and the comics. Sometimes every now and then I have a rant or two about how I feel Hellboy 3 should happen. There was a previous interview that Mike Mignola gave and one of the statements he made was:

"The biggest problem I see as far as PR for the next billion years is explaining endlessly not only that there's no "Hellboy 3" movie, but it's going to be explaining "It's a series, but it's not a monthly series." The numbers for "Hellboy In Hell" will continue, but it's going to come out whenever it comes out."

It made it sound like the Mignola didn't want Hellboy 3 to ever happen. Recently Mignola took to Facebook to clear the air on what he really meant:

There are a couple articles out floating around out there right now that sort of make it sound like I don't want a third movie made or even implying that somehow I might in some way stopping a third one from being made--That's just stupid. I have no idea why these things are popping up now. I'm asked all the time if a third film is in the works and I always say there isn't--Because there isn't. Simple as that. Of course I would be thrilled to see a third one made. I know Ron would like to do it and I think if ANYONE could talk Universal into it it would be del Toro. After #2 someone at the studio assured me that they would NEVER make a third and that was the last contact I had with anyone at Universal. That was a long time ago and things change and I do hope things will change, but who knows. Certainly it all has nothing to do with me. The fate of a third film is entirely somewhere between del Toro and Universal.

It seems Mignola is very interested in a third Hellboy film. It's also good to remember that not only did Hellboy 2: The Golden Army get great reviews, but actually nearly doubled its budget. The budget for the film was 85 million and Hellboy 2: The Golden Army grossed about $160,388,063. Mignola is interested, Ron Perlman is interested, Selma Blair is interested, Doug Jones is interested, del Toro is interested, I'm interested. But how about you guys?

I am not a fan of Hellboy 2 at all but I did like the first film. Hellboy 2 just felt like a Del Toro showcase of weird stuff and a contest of how much crazy things you can put in the story. There was hardly any story at all to care about in my opinion. The ending was extremly lacking too. It would be better to hand it off to another director in my opinion. Fede Alvarez who just did Evil Dead could make a great Hellboy film and could possible revamp it up to a more horror like movie.

is there a chance Universal could lose the rights eventually and then someone who del toro can trust can pick up the 3rd movie?

I've said it before. I would love for there to be a Hellboy 3 but, because of how The Golden Army (my personal favorite of the two) ended, I think Hellboy 3 would be a bad idea and wouldn't end up all that good because Hollywood is predictable and would find a way to fit his and Liz's kids into the plot and turn it into a rescue mission. I would pass. I'd rather have two great movies than have a third bad one.

i watched part two couple of weeks ago, it was my second time. I think the movie is hell better then part 1. Del Toro fixed most of the mistakes he did back then. It maybe not still in a vein of graphic novel, but i really enjoyed it. Part 2 biggest plus was Luke Goss, part 1 biggest minus was Rasputin and Baba Yaga (Del Toro [frick]ed them up big time)

Hmm I liked the 2nd one a lot more than the first, the first half of the 2nd anyway. The first one was a boar.

Like LEVITIKUZ I would love for a 3rd film, for some reason this naturally feels like it should be a trilogy, we know how it should go, but there still is plenty of room for additional plot weaves, surprises but this could (the 3rd film) could be the best conclusion to any trilogy, so far, ever. There is so much love from the creative team, and so much want from the fans (comics and films both) that I am having trouble not getting frustrated with the Business of hollywood. I do agree with crossbones on his point of rather having 2 great films than an OK trilogy (X-men? Spiderman, even evil dead with its change in tone) Honestly, If I won the lottery I would happily fund this film as long as the creation Trinity was still involved. I WANT THIS FILM. !

Yeah, right now things are kind of sticky between del Toro and Universal. He wants to take another crack at revving up At The Mountains of Madness with them, but he'd also like to shop it elsewhere if they pass (again), and that makes things complicated.

If del Toro could actually get that up and running and make it a profitable venture for Universal, he'd be in a much better position to make Hellboy 3 happen (as those movies generally got pushed into sequel worthy territory money-wise based on their DVD profitability).

I guess we'll have to see where del Toro is compared to last time, given his hardline position on the R rating and Tom Cruise as his lead is what made Universal nervous about the budget (which del Toro was also adamant about). If he gets to work out a way to take AtMoM somewhere else, Hellboy 3 will be a lot less likely (and del Toro REALLY wants to see AtMoM made).

Del Toro mapped out the 3rd when doing the 2nd Crossbones. As the Nolanites would say,... "It's all part of the plan".

Fingers crossed we get the 3rd one eventually.

There is only one way to do it with out Del Torro, Hellboy, Batman, Starman and let David Fincher or Darren Aronofsky direct.

hellboy films had great showmanship in filmmaking, loved the creatures and practical costumes, there should def be a third and give the story (on film) a ending!
