Is Martian Manhunter In MAN OF STEEL?

Probably not, but it's fun to speculate anyway. Rumor has it Harry Lennix's character,General Swanwick is actually Martian Manhunter? Could this be a reference that was talked about at a DC Cinematic Universe? Click for some wild speculation.

Ok you all know I'm a big fan of Martian Manhunter and I may have found something about him appearing in Man Of Steel. Now we all know the fate of the DC Cinematic Universe rests in the fate of Man of Steel. We all know that Snyder said that there will be references for a bigger DC Cinematic Universe. We also know that Snyder said if Man of Steel is a success, he will be asked to direct Justice League. Now I was on the forums of Superhero Hype. Someone brought up what Harry Lennix role is in Man of Steel. Now it says that he is playing General Swanwick. Let's take a look at him from the trailer.

Now there are photos from filming that show him in a CGI suit which sounds weird considering the character he's playing. It's also important to note that the guy's left foot up to his knee is green. Let's take a look at that photo.

Now if you look at his CGI suit and how it crosses his chest, it looks very familiar to the Martian Manhunter suit. Martian Manhunter is always known to have the X straps on his suit. Here's a photo of Martian Manhunter to remind you.

Now I'm not saying this confirms Harry Lennix is playing Martian Manhunter but it does seem strange that a General for the US Army will be in a CGI suit. We only know that Zod and Farora are the other 2 invaders from Krypton. Due to Martian Manhunter's appearance it does make sense that he could be wearing a CGI suit and he could actually be Martian Manhunter. What are your thoughts? Comment below. Peace.

Why did you use that image of MM instead of from Justice League or the comics like the title header?

MM wouldn't be fighting with the bad guys.I wish it were so, though.

This would be amazingly awesome if this were true.

wouldn't mind it at all if true

The guy in the suit does not look like Lennix. Even if it was, why would you jump to the conclusion of the MM?

DarthMauve - 4/27/2013, 12:33 PM
I get that your intrigued why an actor playing a general is wearing a MoCap suit, but to jump to MM because of the cross shape is a reaching a little. Lots of MoCap set-ups are configured this way.

I don't know about the straps on the suit, I don't know how it works, that could be standard on all motion capture suits. The general could be in a Lex type power armor, but that seems unlikely.

I think it should be noted, that the mo cap suit, has a green boot, unlike the rest of it, that mo cap suit could be used in a scene where MM reveals himself, starting with the foot.

As much as I want Benedict Cumberbatch for Martian Manhunter this is also some casting I could get behind if its true.

Nothing to hand I'm afraid, just my memory :)

Hell, I would love to be wrong but it just seems a little tenuous.

@Leviticus

Good catch I reckon... I mean its a stretch but I see the reasoning & think it would be a great way to hint at the future.

That's not Harry Lennix in the mo-cap suit. That guy also is not black. The guy is Michael Shannon's stunt double ( http://www.imdb.com/name/nm2725463/ ), this was already discussed on various MOS forums ages ago when someone also made the mistake of confusing Lennix with that guy. Lennix was never even in Plano on the set of Smallville (Meloni was).

I wish. Here's my idea for a cameo at the end of Man of Steel, I made a few months ago, if they decide to do Justice League after.

@JDUKE25

Not turning this into a Marvel vs DC thing, just more a question of originality...but basically the DC version of the end of Iron Man?
JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 4/27/2013, 12:56 PM
Cumberbatch would be alright as Martian Manhunter. But I ALWAYS had Idris Elba as Martian. His voice is just perfect for him.

@ruadh well I would think that would get people excited.

Definitely should go with the New 52 design, or at east a variation of it.

such as?
JDUKE25
JDUKE25 - 4/27/2013, 1:10 PM
Would've been cool to have him come in and help Superman fight, but that would be taking away from Superman. This is his movie. The focus needs to be on him. So having a tease of what's to come at the end is where it should be. What the tease actually is, is obviously up for different ideas.
JatevinM
JatevinM - 4/27/2013, 1:15 PM
Idris Elba shouldn't even be considered for Martian Manhunter. The only person in the DC universe that he needs to play is John Stewart and thats because he is perfect for that role.

JatevinM@ You don't think he's a little big and gruff for John Stewart?
DukeAcureds
DukeAcureds - 4/27/2013, 1:42 PM
Oh shit! He's John Stewart! Lennix is John Stewart! As much as I was liking the J'onn J'onzz idea, he's gotta be friggin' John Stewart!! He's a general for the US military?! Come on, when was John Jones ever a general for the US military? John Stewart, however, was! I think. And the green? See what I'm saying, here?
Lennix is John bloody Stewart!!
Green Lantern is in Man of Steel!
DukeAcureds
DukeAcureds - 4/27/2013, 1:42 PM
...maybe.
LP4
LP4 - 4/27/2013, 2:02 PM
Doubt it. He's battling kryptonian invaders. And he is a general. My thought is- U.S Army probably got some modified armor or something to help him fight the evil kryptonians.

IMHO when i hear Snyder say "references" i think of a Gotham City mention or something subtle like that.

But a full blown MM appearance is unlikely plus this should be a film to focus on the story of Superman. Cramming in MM with a full appearance might be a bit too much.
If Lennix is MM do something subtle- maybe he can be shown eating Oreos or somethin. But this is Superman's movie. Give a subtle nod here and there. But that's it

RexDartEskimoSpy - 4/27/2013, 2:11 PM
Hurm... As much as I love Jonn, we'll be lucky to see him in a Justice League movie let alone a cameo here. Pretty sure the guy in the mo-cap suit is just a stand in.
RexDartEskimoSpy
RexDartEskimoSpy - 4/27/2013, 2:15 PM
Well, the Marine Corps is technically a branch of the Navy.

Anyway, we Martian lovers can just assume that Lennix is Jonn. Probably the most we'll get. But if he eats an Oreo I'll poo my underoos.
DukeAcureds
DukeAcureds - 4/27/2013, 2:20 PM
Either way, it would be a bit much to have an actual DC superhero make a full-blown appearance. I mean, don't get me wrong, it'd be absolutely awesome! I just don't really see WB having the gusto to do this.
I'm thinking LP4's proabably right. It could be a government suit. Metallo, maybe or like the George Perez Lex Luthor suit. That'd be cool.
Gnyah123
Gnyah123 - 4/27/2013, 2:22 PM
idk idk mann...that guy is kinda too old to play MM
but i get what ur saying though
MAYBE MM is the general in human form or maybe he will show up at the end of the film as the general in human form then surprises superman and shows him his alien form?? idk...it could happen..
it happened in the cartoon so..but its just a thought...only one way to really find out!! thats wait til june 14th
and i pray that nothing bad happens opening day or midnight screening of this movie like last year with batman...i pray nothing will happen
BobGarlen
BobGarlen - 4/27/2013, 2:36 PM
Maybe he's a kryptonian spy for zod.
Gnyah123
Gnyah123 - 4/27/2013, 2:37 PM
all i know is we gotta keep our eyes open wide for easter eggs and references to other characters when this movie come out..
like a gotham billboard or something? or a picture of bruce?...
WW...i dont know much about or how a ref. can be made for her...what another place close to krypton? idk...
GL...maybe a green flash/shooting star goes by and it happens to be the space ship the alien was in in the beginning of GL movie
idk man just thoughts
just like in TDKR when blake talks to bruce and mentions giant aligators...am i the only one who thinks/thought that was a killer croc reference?
