Zack Snyder On MAN OF STEEL 2 Progress

In an exclusive interview with Moviehole at Man of Steel's Australian premiere, director Zack Snyder addressed some familiar questions surrounding his film. In one of the first post-release interviews, have Snyder's answers changed?

While in Sydney for the Australian premiere of Man of Steel, Moviehole caught up with director Zack Snyder and were able to garner a few kernels of new information regarding the inevitable Man of Steel sequel. Snyder didn't extrapolate on many of his responses but one of the new revelations is that he hasn't spoken to Warner Bros. officially about a Man of Steel sequel.

On the sequel – which we hear the studio has not only greenlit, but that Snyder has already got the setting and villain mapped out!
Snyder: "I’m going to be a hundred percent honest with you, I haven’t yet gotten to speak to the studio about all these awesome details (because I’ve been overseas on the junket). So my hope is, when I get home I can sit down with everyone and it’ll be like ‘Okay, so what are we going to do?.. we need to do something…”’

One of the questions they have to immediately address in a sequel:
Snyder: “We almost destroyed the world last time, now what!?’

Does ”Man of Steel” lead to ”Justice League”?
I really wanted to expand the DC Universe and I really wanted to make sure, in Superman’s world, that all that is a possibility.

Addressing a couple of fan complaints…
People have been like ‘there’s no kryptonite in the movie!’ and ‘there’s no Lex Luthor in the movie!’, and by no means am I saying those things don’t exist, I’m just saying he didn’t run into them here [this time].

On the film’s ”Smallville” references (look closely for homages to the characters of Chloe and Whitney)
Ya know, [TVs Smallville is] in the Superman mythology now. I was interested in that kind of homage to the mythology. I feel it’s not so much about paying more homage to the series, it’s just in the vernacular of Superman now.

So what do you think CBMers? Any theories on how the destruction of Metropolis could play into the sequel? I think we all figured the obvious route would be for Lex Luthor to help rebuild Metropolis. But where would the sequel go from there? And could it possibly lead to Justice League? Post your thoughts below.

I loved the fact there was so goddamn much stuff pertaining to Smallville, right down to the damn shot of the Barber Shop. I mean, I hate Smallville, but that was neat. Snyder has my approval, always has. Get to work!

I hope that Snyder does not focus on the "We almost destroyed the World, now what"; now we have seen the destruction that can be done, this time, as Whedon says, go deeper, like with a scalpel knife deep, I want action again yes but remember story too, Man of Steel was awesome though so I think the sequel can be done to the same, if not, higher standard, just don't rush

well there was kryptonite(sort of) so fans are stupid.
LexCorp was all over the place and a keen eye can gather that the pov shot of Metropolis being leveled from the passenger in the limo was a solid nod to Lex. So yet again fans are super stupid.

Yes Zack that was my question- after all that WHAT THE HELL COULD POSSIBLY BE NEXT ? Only 3 things bigger than that-
Lex with Kryptonian technology
Brainiac and Lex
Darkseid(which I hope you are saving for the Justice League)
Loved MOS- looking forward to more.

People have already figured out that this would be a great way to into Lex, as he could fund most of the restoration of Metropolis and sew seeds of doubt into the minds of the public, making them trust him more than Superman. But what if they went a little deeper than that? What if Lex used that as, say, the launch of his own Presidential campaign?

I love the fact Luthor was once the US President in the DC Universe - it's a fantastic way to represent the antagonistic relationship between both Lex and Superman, in that they both hate each other, but they have to be more careful with how they fight each other - Superman will lose favour with the people if he starts badmouthing the man they elected to lead them, while Luthor will lose favour if he badmouths their hero.

If you want to see Lex Luthor at his most villainous, give him power. And who has more power than the US President?

@AC1: Superman is still young in this incarnation. There is no «hate» yet between Luthor and Sups.

I hope they will play the Corporate mastermind version of Luthor, seeing opportunities for power and money in the destruction of Metropolis.

That’s how Luthor is a great villain, he’s not a physical challenge to Superman. Instead, he makes plans, uses questionable and criminal means to achieve his goals. He cleans his tracks and remains untouchable.

Superman might stop Luthor’s plans, but Luthor stay just enough out of reach to seriously aggravate Superman, who can’t prove anything.

I don’t want to see Lex in prison anytime soon. (The 2 prisons escapes from the 1980s movies are ridicule).

"Superman killing Zod (how are none of the fans pissed at this) but the Mandarin ( a weak character to begin with) brings every fanboy an erection of anger?"

Good point :) but Supes was left with no choice, he had to kill Zod :)
The Mandarin hate is just plain stupid, that boat sailed bro, time to move on. I was happy with how he was treated in IM3 and I thought the twist worked within the themes of the film :) Haters gonna hate ;)

@Weneed: The answer to nearly all those questions is "you dumb?"
1. Story - you dumb?
2. Character development - you dumb?
3. Lois Lane - you dumb?
4. We're not mad, because it's one of the best illustrations of Superman's character that's ever been seen. If you don't understand why... you dumb? Also, I wasn't mad about Mandarin either. Coz I'm not dumb.
5. Superman didn't cause any deaths. There may have been deaths during his attempts to stop Zod and co., but he didn't cause them - he was just unable to prevent them. If you can point to ONE scene where it shows Superman being responsible for any deaths, please point them out. Otherwise "you dumb?"
6. The suit. You never heard of replicators? You dumb?
7. Fantastic CGI. You dumb?
8. The bad reviews - they dumb.
9. Loved the chemistry between Lois and Clark.
10. One was a general, trained in the art of war. The other a rookie who had never had a fight in his life. You dumb?

Look, you're clearly not very bright, or maybe you're just really young, but do us all a favour and go away and learn not to be quite so dumb all the time, there's a good lad.

Ok if Superman didnt kill Zod, what could they do with Zod?

No prison could hold Zod. There was nothing Superman could do to stop him. Sure he could put his hands over Zod's eyes but look what happened to Faora when she put her hands over Superman's eyes.

It's like in Batman 89 when Joker died. Joker was getting away and Batman used the hook to stop him but it caused Joker to die. Batman had no choice and had to use it so Joker wouldn't get away.

the script was epic honestly it got away from the donner flims most know an ventured into new depths of the character. BUT goyers screenplay was infant minded in the direction it went. MOS can be limitless if goyer wises up an ask's jonathan nolan to get on bord.
lex needs to get the suit in the 3rd one or always be the behind the scenes villian.

Address some of these fan complaints Zach:

There's no tangible story in the movie.

There's no real character development in the movie.

Lois Lane is a complete tool that apparently has teleportation abilities cause she's every where the script needs her to be no matter what for no reason: Spaceship, Kansas, Carrier Aircraft, falling out of said carrier aircraft.

Superman killing Zod (how are none of the fans pissed at this) but the Manderian ( a weak character to begin with) brings every fanboy an erection of anger?

Superman causing countless deaths in not only Metropolis but his hometown of Kansas too.

The costume coming out of [frick]ing no-where because Jor-El didn't send that ship to earth with the costume in it. That was sent eons before Kal-El was born.

Shitty CGI

Horrible reviews

No chemistry between Lois and Supes

Oh yeah... and uh the ridiculous idea that Zod could master Supes powers in a couple of days when it took Supes his whole life (20 - 30 years) to do it.

Phantom Zone is such a shitty cliche.

Superman killing Zod showed that he would choice Humans over his own race. He made a choice in a split second which is something you rarely see from Superman. Superman killing Zod was well done and powerful.

She really achieved serious "hip jiggle" in that Pepsi commercial

For the sequal they can actually play off the amount of destruction from the last fight, make it a one of the motives on why Lex wants to be rid of Supes, since he has a twisted notion on saving the world from him.

That's what I would do at any rate.

@ Ineedrevelation -

Some average reviews alright but they are very good ones also....I do always glance at reviews to get an idea but won't let it influence me one way or another...I tought it was great..I've loved IM3,Star Trek and MOS so far this year so I'm delighted.
Reviews don't always tell the whole truth anyway for me just saw Zero dark thirty and A place beyond the pines which were critically acclaimed...to be honest they bored me to tears.
Anyway after waiting so long for a good Supes film it's a pity you didn't dig it.
