Quentin Tarantino Almost Directed Green Lantern!

All he had to do was say Yes!

This is a audio conversation from MTV with Quentin Tarantino:

"I was offered the 'Green Lantern,' " Tarantino told MTV News. "Not since it's been a script, but just like, 'Hey we own the 'Green Lantern.' Would you like it?'"

Awww man! That would have been the bees knees. Come on! Who wouldn't want to see The Bear Jew vs The Green Lantern? Who would win you ask? Tied at the end of regulation, Bear Jew, in overtime, by 1.

Quentin Tarantino is an avid comic book fan, he admitted that in his 20's all he wanted to see was Comic Book Movies! Hell I'm in my 30's and that's all I still want to see. Quentin goes on to say:

"So there's a little part of me that's like, 'Wow, if I was in my 20's, this would be the genre I'd want to specialize in," he said. "But they weren't making them then, or at least not the right ones. But there also is an aspect where I've kind of outgrown that a little bit."

Would Quentin ever direct an upcoming Comic Book Movie? To which he replied:

"It wouldn't be an existing comic book character," he said. "I'm a writer. I'd want to use my imagination and not have to fight with geeks' memories of how this character should be and, 'Oh, I cast an actor as opposed to a bodybuilder' or it's not as good as the way [DC Comics artist] Neal Adams drew him.' If I were to do something like that, I would want the fun of coming up with the superhero myself."

I could only imagine what kind of super hero Quentin could come up with. Man when your Quentin Tarantino the sky's the limit. When your Jman the limit's the sky.

Awesome stuff, I always though Tarantino would make a great CBM. Something like 100 Bullets or even fantasy tinged like Black Orchid. I hope he does some day. But I totally get what he means about being constrained by the existing characters, this dude would indulge his creativity too much!

I dont think he'd be right for GL. Maybe kick-ass though!

The Punisher! He could get all the Blood and Guts he wants. And Inglorious Basterds is good, it's not all blood and guts but still very entertaing.

Thank god this didnt happen. Martin Campbell is 100 times better. I hate Tarantino with a passion. The guy is such a prick. He would have thought his movie is what everyone else should go by if he made one.

i agree with keven also. i don't think his style would suit a cbm

This dude seriously needs to try his hand at CBM's.
That would be quite the epic win

I don't think he should do any CBM. He gave his own reasons why not. He has too much vision to a fault sometimes. His own style is comic booky enough.

MarkCassidy - 12/2/2009, 11:23 AM
I dunno. Sure he has his style and he likes to be in charge of the story but he's talented enough to reign it in if he really wanted to..but, its moot because he doesn't!

i could see horror, or western...both ala 70s but not superhero. it would be interesting too see his take on something not of his own creation, i cant even really think of a hero that he would werk with....maybe preacher or hellblazer.

Tarintino should do MoonKnight or Luke Cage and Iron Fist!
StephenStrange
StephenStrange - 12/2/2009, 12:03 PM
I just think the man's got mad skillz and it would be interesting to see what he would do with it. Maybe he would do it "outside the box".. that's ok! It COULD turn out to be epic like TDK!!

@ Legendary: Now there's an idea. I bet he could MAUL ASS on a Moon Knight movie!

I definitely dont think he would have been the right choice for anything even a little similar to a GL movie, lol! If he were to direct a CBM I dont think I'd want it to be anything DC or Marvel as he's not right for any character I can think of!

TheDemonHunter - 12/2/2009, 12:30 PM
I like Tarantino's films quite a bit.

I'm glad he didn't get GL, because as others have said it really wouldn't have worked out with the style and content he generally embraces. I could see him taking on a splatter-fest like another Punisher War Zone though. I actually think his Punisher would be more along the lines of the Thomas Jane Punisher flick than War Zone because his movies usually have a plot, just with a lot more violence.

THAT could have been an epic Punisher flick.

He would have to do a non mainstream comic movie only for the fact that the mother f**ker is out there in a good way.

I would love to see a more violent series directed by Taratino. He would be best suited for something that's too short for a movie on its own so he can expand on it, like Hard Boiled.

SHHH- I would really like to see all the pics you post but because my work place blocks this sites embed pictures, i can't see them. If you want, you could make yourself a photobucket account, i know i can see those ;P

But yeah, i'd love to know when Sukiyaki Western Jango is comin' out on DVD. I missed out on it at the theaters. It looked pretty bad ass :))

I completely agree with ROR & KEVEN

He's way too talented and artistic to be locked in to a pre-defined character. I think that he absolutely has the ability to pull off ANY dark CBM, but as ROR said, he just doesn't want to.

Thank God this didn't happen. I like a lot of Tarantino's movies but can you imagine him staying true to a comic book? Not if you are honest with yourself.

I agree with ProfOJ. As soon as I saw the title of this article I immediatly thought that a Preacher movie or movies directed by Tarantino would be awesome.
