WB Promises Several More Batman & Superman Sequels

WB Promises Several More Batman & Superman Sequels

Not waiting for Chris Nolan to commit, Warner Brothers is planning a entire slate of Batman movies--Supes and Sherlock too!

Reported yesterday on Time Warner's earning call, an analyst asked Time Warner CEO Jeff Bewkes what the company has learned overall from The Dark Knight. Jeff's response "The obvious thing we're going to take from [the film's success] is more Dark Knight," Jeff goes on to say "We look at Harry Potter...It's fantastic to have franchises that last that long. We want to do that with Batman and Superman and perhaps Sherlock Holmes. The sequels are as good, with new characters added, as were the originals. That wasn't the case in the years ago. "Warner's has more tent poles as an on-going strategy that very much lifts its distribution and performance." We think that's going to hold up our slate in the 2009 - 2010 period. We've got four big tent poles coming this year."

I'm a little surprised Superman and Sherlock Holmes were on the CEO's list. As Superman hasn't lifted off quite yet, and no new news stating otherwise. I'm sure that would be Warner's long time goal for Superman to turn him into a token franchise, but shouldn't that be the studio's goal for any project they decide to make a major summer tent pole? Sherlock Holmes is even more of a long shot to turn into a 8 or 9 movie franchise, but I'll just have to wait and see the film before I can comment on any future potential Sherlock franchise plans.

So Warner Brothers is planning a entire slate of Batman movies, even after, it sounds like, Nolan has retired from the franchise. I'm sure all this will hinge on the sure success of the third installment to Nolan's currant Batman movie franchise. It is nice to know as a fan the next Batman movie wont be it just because it happens to be the third movie out of a proposed trilogy. Who said that franchises have to stick to the George Lucas method of movie making anyway? I have one bit of advice for future Batman movies, "More Joker."

OK. I am now absolutely convinced Supermike is here just to rattle peoples bones a bit. He serves no other purpose, I get it now...SO, with that, go on with your bad self, do what you do. You're a douche on purpose just to get a rise. So be it. I'll deal with that because you're semi-humorous. But, I won't be responding to anything you say anymore.

TDK 2 will be even better.

Yeah, that last comment by superdouche just put it over the top. He is definitely just trying to piss people off. He obviously cannot think for himself or have his own opinions, so it is now painfully obvious that he just wants to run around and be argumentative with everyone.

Supermike, you go away now. No body like you. You douchebag. You not know how talk to people. You just embarassing you self. Okay, bye bye now.

That is all!

See... i told you guys they were goin without nolan because he won't get off the pot. Good, he's as replaceable as bale. Bring on "the blade Norington", not "the league Norington" or Snyder or hell even Singer would do. Hey Singer, this time it's okay to give the hero a kid, as long as Selena Kyle's the mom, just name her helena Kyle and have her become the Huntress. It's that simple. You were off to a good start, just had the wrong hero is all XP

They had better not [frick] with Nolan's version of Batman. Nolan's is going for a more realistic version, and a flying alien is just going to [frick] it all up!

I said ignore Supermike because he's just a douche forever ago! But no one would listen! O well..... I made a poll about him. lol. Vote on it if you dare:

And Sherlock Holmes looks awesome, so I hope they make a bunch of them. Robert Downy Jr. is awesome and Guy Ritchie is an amazing director. It's gonna be great.

Oh so supermike says something of his opinion and you all bash on him ? he didnt like TDK, so ? his opinion, respect it, you guys do the same thing over DBE news everytime, comes in, like supermike did, not carrying about the news and say something bad about it, dont be hypocrite now, if i have to listen to all of your whinings over there, do the same here, people has to start IGNORING news about stuff they dont like, instead of coming just to post something bad about it to people that enjoys it.

yes, keep the man almost single handedly responsible for the rejuvination of comic book movies away from them. Before X men no studio would touch a script that even hinted at comics or superheros because of the catastrophic Batman and Robin..he followed that up with a sequel regarded by many as the best comic book movie made yet(before TDK anyway)...and just because he didnt stick enough explosions in Superman Returns for you, all of a sudden hes the comic movie antichrist?

I also noticed the similarities in Dorito and supermikes penmanship!...coincidence??

Money makes the world go round. Nothing we can do about it. But I sure like the idear of more Sherlock Holmes films. Just don't hope they'll [frick] up the original story lines written bij Conan Doyle to much.

As for TDK. You could have guesed they where going to make more movies, with or without Nolan. It's just a milkcow. They try to squeeze as much out of it as they can untill it runs dry.
Joker1zero
Joker1zero - 2/5/2009, 10:16 PM
I like Nolan's idea of one movie at a time because if they just plan a slate of movies, they're gonna end up putting in filler like Spiderman 3 and the story will suffer. Slow down guys.

if nolan, bale and crew don't come back i don't want to see them make more batman films with out them...because i dont want a new director and cast to throw of the feel. If they go, they should just stop.
And i like Mark Miller's idea for an epic Superman reboot. but i hope they keep brandon routhe...he was awesome as supes and clark kent.

@ Shaman...i've read several of your posts and am thoroughly convinced that you either a. live on another planet, b. have you head completely lodged in your rear end, c. have absolutely no idea what your talking about, or d. all of the above.
also to Shaman: in the words of that guy from billy madison:
"what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things i have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it--(or in this case read it)--I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul."

to joslezio85...
frank miller has done some great stuff my friend..however, i respectfully disagree and on this basis: Frank miller wrote a script for a Batman movie just prior to the one nolan and goyer wrote and it was total garbage...i think you can find it online. its very wacked out.

Doritos:

I agree in saying that they're treating him like they treat you and I w/ our opinions being the minority on this site actually liking what we see of the DBE movie.

But supermike ALWAYS starts problems, no matter what article he posts on.

he always disagrees and states what he doesn't like about that particular comic book movie and how it "sucks"

He's trolling. If he doesn't like anything about any comic book movie he's seen. why join the site?

I couldn't care much about more Batman and Superman films at the moment. I'm still surprised they've found a director for Green Lantern, the idea that they (Warner Bros.) are seeing daylight from the rim of their assholes and are branching out to other properties is still shocking to me.

I could do with a break from Batman what with all the recent incarnations floating around right now but a Superman movie down the pipeline would be welcomed first. But like I've said, at the moment, couldn't care much about Batman and Superman. I'm more eager to drop my cash in seeing Green Lantern and The Flash (more so The Flash).

I agree with rorschach01, one comic property doesn't warrant the gallows for Singer. It was just a matter of the wrong type of visionary for Superman, in my opinion. He did set the bar and opened the doors for other comic properties to get the blockbuster treatment.

So i guess this really means no Nolan in future Batman films? Sigh... this is gonna be bad. Blade and Blade 2 by Del Toro was perfect and when Blade 3 was done by a different director, it sucked big time!

And Nolan's Batman is a much harder act to follow than Del Toro's Blade. Im not saying the future films are gonna be bad but its a miracle if they will ever surpass TDK or at least be at the same level.
Shaman
Shaman - 2/6/2009, 7:48 AM
musicsuperhero, actually what i said was a little something called "humour", very popular on my planet. And if you perceived anything else then that would mean that you are the one with your own head up your ass. And you can't possibly tell me that there isn't an actor and director out there that could do an "as good" job or even a better one than Nolan and Bale did. Yes they've done two great movies, it sure as hell doesn't make them gods. In fact, here's a list of talented director that could do a good job with this franchise:

-Norrington (Blade)
-Del Toro (Blade 2)
-Snyder (watchmen/300)
-Favreau (Ironman)
-Martin Campbell (Mask of Zorro)
-Wachowski bros. (V for vendetta/Matrix)
-Frank Miller (Sin City)
-Tim Burton

And the list goes on and on and on... Nolan is a PAWN. Granted he's a "visionary" pawn but a pawn none the less. HE CAN BE REPLACED. And as i've said before, Bale is a good batman but not any better than Michael Keaton was. So again, replaceble. And i think that there are more people here that can vouch for the "knowledge" behind my statements than there are to pathetically AND insignificantly bash.
MarkCassidy
MarkCassidy - 2/6/2009, 8:11 AM
mmmm, i dont know Shaman, Nolan is in a different league than most of those guys..he is yet to make a movie that wasnyt pure class imo...Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige..and you know the next 2! All of those other guys (with the exception of Del Toro) are far too inconsistent. Nolan has a very distinct style thats evident in all of his movies, and one of the reasons the 2 Bat movies were so good is that he kept that style even though it was his first stab at the genre..i really think it would be a loss for the franchise if he didnt stay on.
Supermike
Supermike - 2/6/2009, 8:21 AM
See the thing about The dark knight is people didn't go there to see the movie they went their because of Ledger they could give a ratass about the movie so as long as no one in the next batman movie Kill themself it should be better then the dark knight hands down all you got to do is get rid of the realistic crap that Nolan did I mean ITS A COMIC BOOK MOVIE IT'S NOT SUPPOSE TO BE REAL.
