Is Superman Appearing In The Live Action Green Lantern Movie?

Marc Guggenheim, Co Writer on the live action Green Lantern Movie weighs in on the rumor!

Last year SplashpageMTV caught up with Co Writer Marc Guggenheim, who made the comment that Superman might have a cameo in the upcoming live action Green Lantern Movie. Fast forward to this year. MTV caught up with the Co Writer again to ask him about his comments regarding a cameo in Green Lantern by none other then The Man Of Steel and any other Heroes in D.C. Universe.

“Honestly, it changes on a daily basis. Whatever information I gave you today would be obsolete in a week, and maybe come back again in two weeks,” states Guggenheim.” And even if it wasn't in flux at the script stage, it would still be constantly in flux because you can film it, put it in the original cut, and eventually it could end up on the editing room floor.”

Marc Guggenheim goes on to say:

“I will say, all the Easter Eggs and the cameos that I put in, I couldn't even begin to predict at this point which ones will stay and which ones will go,” he said. “I'll be as interested as anyone else to see what we end up keeping and losing by the time the picture is actually locked… and that’s pretty far away from now.”

So he did not deny what he said a year ago, only to back it up by saying there's a lot on the floor right now and hopefully we will get in what we want to. Superman is the biggest hero in the D.C. Universe. My guess: Green Lantern would get a lot more attention with a cameo by Superman. It would almost be stupid if it did not happen. Warner Brother's want's to intertwine the D.C. Movie Universe and I cant think of a better way to kick that idea off buy putting Supes up there on the Big Screen with Hal Jordan as the Green Lantern. Maybe Brandon Routh better not hang his red cape up just yet.

Dude! This would be AMAZING. And it would really give Marvel a run for it's money, since the quality of the Batman franchise is so high. And honestly with the "potential" quality that Superman Returns had...this could be a HUGE step forward!

Now...once Avengers and Justice League are made...how in the world will we ever get a Justice League vs. Avengers movie??? Could you imagine how much that movie would cost to make, haha

I don't know, I think Sups is too important of a character to reduce him to a cameo...

It wont happen, DC wont put Supes in it when they dont know if theres gonna be another Superman movie anytime soon or who would be playing him. Although, It would be good for DC and Warner Bros. to start building some continuity between their films like Marvel is doing.

Peep this babes:

Sam Worthington will be the next Superman. Not my personal pic though, i'm just sure that's where they're going. Routh will not be cast since WB will reboot the whole thing. They'll reboot the franchise to fit JLA WITH Sam Worthington. So yeah, people will be pissed!!! It's also the reason why Nolan isn't saying shit. Cause WB told him to shut up about it. He's not doing a third film and neither is Bale. They're restarting all franchises for JLA. So the first JLAer will be Hal. Which could very well be Chris Pine. They'll wait on the success of GL to find out what they do with the other franchises. Cause if an Intergalactic Police Corps succeeds, JLA (as well as the first ever decent Superman movie)is a shoe-in!!! Logic hurts like a brain freeze doesn't it??? :P

Inohaku - 7/8/2009, 12:51 PM
OMG, what a mess at WB, they should have thought about all this a long time ago and avoid all this rebooting nonsense!!

The Hell with Routh it's time for Welling to get out of his funk and step up to the plate and play with the big boys. He can be a great Superman he just needs to let go of his fear of being stereotyped cause that ship has sailed. Honestly who hear watched The Fog and was waiting for super speed to kick in.

Keven your a moron. DC has just as many options as Marvel.

To name a few

Superman
Batman
Flash
Green Lantern
Aquaman
Wonder Woman
Shazam
Supergirl
JLA
JSA
Teen Titans
Adam Strange
Atom
Green Arrow
Black Canary
and the list goes on and on...

Maybe you just read Marvel and your letting you ignorance speak for you.

A great way to tie in the two films is that Tomar-Re was supposed to get to Krypton before it exploded.

Kev- IT IS THE BIGGEST CLUSTER[frick] OF ALL TIME!!! LOLOL :P But it's WB, what did you expect??? I could almost bet my red money that that's the way they're headed!!! They're planning on Marvel's AND GL's success to kick start it. They also plan to reboot this whole mess for the last time... if that's ever possible LOL :P

Lastson- That'll never happen. Welling won't let it LOL :P

Grif- We shall see the DCU "together" for the first time in history!!! Mark my words, it will happen!!! They've been thinking about it ever since Marvel publicly stated their intent to do so. It's the kick in the ass they needed but they're not as brave as Marvel are to risk it all in haste. They're starting with GL and waiting on Avengers. They need brand new actors for everything which means no Routh, no Bale. It IS the reason why they've been talking to a shit load of actors at the same damn time. But the media thinks it's only for GL, they're wrong!!!

Im not interested in anything DC so probably wouldnt go to see this (maybe blu-ray) but a cameo from any other superhero is bound to be pretty awesome!

Wellington has done a good job, but the truth is once an actor is tied to a tv show character they never move on to the same character on the big screen. It's just not going to happen unless it's a spinoff of the tv show like mentioned here earlier, "Metropolis".

@Keven: this hardly seems coincidental to me.

@everyone else: what's the point of even taking the time to post anything if it's just going to get taken down in the first place?

@jman: you bring us a lot of awesome stories, man; but it's hardly cool pushing us 'little guys' aside when we clearly posted the same article before you. whatever happened to giving credit where credit's due? then taking an article down all together like it never even happened??? also, the few times I'VE heard it brought up, you never seem to respond. i would really like to know your thoughts on this.

Sincerely,

Soon To Be Deleted

Inohaku- Welling and Worthington are two different people. Sam Worthington (what i think will be the new Superman) is from such films as Terminator Salvation, Clash Of The Titans and James Cameron's Avatar. Welling is tied to the tv show and doesn't even WANT to put on the cape... panzy!!!

Roar- As incredible as it may be, i feel that's where they're going. Just don't forget where you heard it first if it ever happens huh? LOLOL :P

LEE: i hate DC! I find all the parralel universe and final criris stuff all too confusing to get into and really couldnt be bothered to try and get into DC comics when there about 60 version of Superman, lol! The only good DC graphic novel Ive ever read is the return of Jason Todd which was pretty good but again a lot of the stuff about how he was brought back from the dead went way over my head becasue the continuity of the DCU makes no sense to me! Im a Marvel man through and through though-i love pretty much everything they do!!

I'm not pushing anyone around, when a story hits people work on it at the same time. There were plenty of posts that Lee put up over the 4th of July that I didn't because he had them up first. IronClad you wanna know how many times I got deleted but never called anyone out cuz that's just the way shit rolls, right down hill buddy. Its a race, who gets to it first and which article is better. Brett out wrote me more times then I can count.

@ Shamen; you got some good theories there buddy.

@Keven; man shut the hell up. I happen to believe you have good in you:)

Now the question is... will they ALSO follow in the same footsteps of Marvel and make a "movie friendly comic book continuity" like the Ultimate line-up???

Jman- Sounds like what WB is capable of doing doesn't it??? It would piss a lot of people off but that never bothered them in the past.

Next up, get ready for a bunch of female lead news that the media will be completely oblivious to. Wonder Woman candidates, all of them!!! Just because there aren't any news on "scripts" comin up, doesn't mean WB isn't looking ahead. The media only reported Meagan Gale AFTER they knew a JLA script was written. You'll all see... ;)

JoshWilding - 7/8/2009, 1:36 PM
Id love an Ultimate DC kind of thing - as I said above I dont read any DC stuffa nd dont want to get into it now but a fresh start with a line up like that would be great (though knowing DC they would probably end up doing some sort of crossover)

Josh your really missing out on some amazing stuff! I hate all the parallel universe stuff too, but that's only one facet of DC. In fact i can safely say being a big fan of both DC and Marvel, that DC have produced waaaaaay better stories. Marvel have never produced anything (imo) to rival TDKR, Watchmen, The entire run of Sandman, the entire run of Preacher. Marvel have great characters but they never seem to know how do use them properly. Old Man Logan has been the best story arc they have had in ages so hopefully that will continue.

RacerX: Don't make the debate personal dude. True, Keven is a doucher, but don't make your reputation on this site as an unreasonable prick :). In Keven's defense(Yes Keven, I'm partly on your side this time) Marvel has easily got 3 times the logically option able characters for film than DC has, but not because DC sucks, but because some DC characters just won't translate as well. Only the first 4 on your list plus WW would really be successful in solo films, the rest may as well be featured with those power 5 in their films. Black Canary movie? I smell Elektra all over again. Catch my drift. I appreciate your rabid comic fanatacism though :)

Shaman, your logic is sound, though it deeply pains me to think we won't get a 3rd Chris Nolan Batman.

Joshw24,In terms of Marvel vs. DC, I am definitely a Marvel by a long-shot, but I have an appreciation for all things comic's(even for that douchebag boyscout with panzee red booties named Superman) If it is a comic title, I'll be in theaters to see it.

@ Shamen: WB is more then capable there just worried that it wont pay off. Which makes no sense. The days of the old FF movie are over, ya know, the one way back when, that was horrible and was a disaster making no money. For awhile there that was what studios were afraid of. With the success of X-men the WB knows know that they could pull it off. The only thing wrong with potential is that it has not been done yet.

I mentioned this in another article, that Hollywood has no more original ideas. So they are turning to comic books. Which is great for us:)

supermike - now I know why everyone talks to you like they do. how in the world could a superman cameo be bad?

I'd even like to see another easter egg, like maybe wally west working in a lab, or a news clip mentioning billionaire bruce wayne...
