The Amazing Spider-Man is the story of Peter Parker (Garfield), an outcast high schooler who was abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben (Sheen) and Aunt May (Field). Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. Peter is also finding his way with his first high school crush, Gwen Stacy (Stone), and together, they struggle with love, commitment, and secrets. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance - leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr Curt Connors (Ifans), his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter-ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

i haven't got a problem with the costume,at least you can tell its spider-man.

unlike a certain other movie villain.

So they explain it more than, "Oh he makes a costume no one but a costume designer could do." Well I can hope but not completely believing.

I can't view this at work, did he explain why they went with the garters?
SpiderFan35

This is why our opinions need to be expressed CBMers, those who say "just be happy, don't complain and whine" etc are not helping the cause of getting better movies made.

Maybe our criticisms come a little early, but the costume is still overall very similar to what we saw at the beginning, and I still don't like it.

And Avi Arad makes me sleepy :P

Are the sock-boots not sewn onto the suit? Do they flap off in the wind from webslinging?
SpiderFan35
SpiderFan35 - 6/6/2012, 10:11 AM
@Shaman: Nope, they mostly just talk about when fans complain online, and how they try to listen us but basically discount our critcisms because we complain before all the fancy effects "fix" everything.
SpiderFan35
SpiderFan35 - 6/6/2012, 10:11 AM
@Shaman: lol, they don't go into that level of detail.

They really need to just stick to the comic books and stop trying to change shit all the time.

THAT is what pisses fanboys off. And fanboys often... not always... but often know they shit.

p.s. if you could transcribe the good tidbits that would be great.

SpiderFan35- Ah man, that sucks. I've been scratching my head about it like crazy. Did he at least tell us that his magical effects will fix the garters, as in showing him NOT have any?

Yeah ... So I'm hearing "we listen to the fans" and "we learned from the criticism"; but I'm not hearing "the costume design was a mistake" and "trust us, it will be rectified by the end of the film."

Sorry Sony/Marvel, but the costume is a failure unless he moves into a "new" costume at the end of the film which resembles the iconic Spider-man costume. I'll buy into it if it a "first draft" of Spider-man's look in the continuity of this new franchise run, but I'm not buying into it as the final look of Spider-man, EVER.

That said, its really my only dislike of what I've been seeing. I don't care about web shooters or the Lizard's snout. I don't care about using Gwen or Mary Jane. I don't care if they change the backstory of Peter's parents. I don't even care if Peter was genetically mutated by his father in his youth. I want to see a good movie, and this looks like it's going to be pretty good. I'm just having a hard time swallowing this costumed guy as Spider-man if he isn't wearing a Spider-man costume.

They STILL haven't explained how 1 BELT is too much for a teenager to afford?

THAT is my main complaint with the suit, without the belt it looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO strange!

I will most certainly be saying things like "the tail is wrong" or "Where's the snout!?" as the movie is playing.

They released offical pic of the suit a year ago, then the set leaks, and then more official pics and STILL complaints about the suit! they are VALID!!

I very much wanted this film to fail. I was a fan of Raimi's first film. I hated the costume and at first Garfield as Spiderman but hearing these guys describe his passion makes me like him.

I don't care about Emma Stone being in the film as Gwen Stacy cuz I've been wanting to see Gwen die on screen for YEARS now LOL! I'm still upset that there's no MJ.

I might actually watch this. I'm still a bit skeptical on the story though, everything else looks pretty good.

danielfoez - 6/6/2012, 11:55 AM
The only problem I have with these movies is not the hair colour of the actresses that play the love interest..is that they keep shifting their characters personalities...I mean, moaning/serious Mary Jane and playful model Gwen in Raimi's trilogy?

And now they are making the same mistake...Not Emma's fault, she's a great actress, but...Just by the Lizard clip, and the trailers, I can see she's how Mary Jane is in the comics...and Gwen never learned about Peter being Spidey!
JULEZ13
JULEZ13 - 6/6/2012, 12:01 PM
@danielfoez makes a good argument. That is the exact same reason I am hesitant to watch this. The story is all changed and is barely like the comics. MJ is one of - if not my favorite - female character in the Marvel Universe! When are they going to get her character right?!?

What's up with all the love for Gwen Stacy? She's supposed to die and I'm excited to see that! (I'm not a psychopath lol) If Green Goblin is the villain in the sequel I will definitely watch it just to watch an iconic moment in Spiderman history: The Death of Gwen Stacy!!!! >:D

MJ & Peter forever!!

AutobotCommander84 - 6/6/2012, 12:16 PM
@Greengo No, they don't. As long as they don't radically change the character's personalities or powers, it's all good.
@LeoAtrox Because some fans, much like myself, actually LIKE the suit.

yea, fx might change the shoes, but it still doesnt account for the costume lookin like feces

@julez13 you are right my friend, but we can only hope for the best (or marvel to shell out a crapton of money to get their properties back)
FriendlyNeighborhoodSpidey
FriendlyNeighborhoodSpidey - 6/6/2012, 2:54 PM
Wow they didn't even defend the suit. They basically just said, "Thanks for the criticism, but we can't change anything now. Maybe next time."
JULEZ13
JULEZ13 - 6/6/2012, 3:44 PM
@ IncredibleChuck: Marvel should pay that crapton to get the rights back! Spiderman is their best creation, and Sony will never lose the rights by not making anymore money. Marvel would make that money back and a sh!tload more by making the movies RIGHT and by all his cameos he can potentially appear in.

Dear Avi Arad,

Can you colour correct that leg stripe to disappear entirely? No? Thought not.

That isn't a case of 'premature fanrage' - it's a poor design decision. It looks whack.

This wasn't a slight artistic change - this was a deliberate alteration of the costume's basic design that DOES NOT LOOK AS GOOD.

It's as simple as that, Avi. It's not BETTER. It's not an improvement.

Not the end of the world though. If you survive for a sequel, just correct the mistake. If it ain't broke...

I can handle the suit but what's up with the silver shoes? They seem out of place and he has golden eyes. Wouldn't shoes make sticking to walls harder?

Luminus - 6/6/2012, 5:53 PM
Regarding all those making the stupid complaint, "How does a teenager create a suit only a designer can make?" What exactly would you have him wear? Explain. His pajamas, perhaps?

nosnegrom
nosnegrom - 6/6/2012, 8:38 PM
I dont get why people hate the new suit to much. If you look at the old raimi movies the suit looked so wierd and almost rubbery to me and it always looked so tight and toby could barely put his arms down especially in the cg scenes, this new one in the minor cg scenes you can see it wrinkle and bend like theres a person in there. The shoes are alot cooler too, they are much more practicle for when he's kicking and running and jumping, much more support rather than cardboard or whatever it was in the comic books. And on the other hand theres a more modern vibe to this new one. The raimi movies where great but they were kind of old fashoned vibe. No hate just pointing out the differences between the 2. I think they changed the suit designtoo keep distance from the raimi movies and i dont hink it would work very well in this movie. No one complains about the batman costumes changes over the years.
