Gemma Arterton to Possibly Go From Galivanting with Gods to Escaping Attack from Aliens!

Ridley Scott Still Seeking Next Unfortunate Heroine to Overdose on Xenomorphs.

It's being reported that Gemma Arterton, (Bond girl Strawberry Fields in "Quantum of Solace", Io in the GOD-AWFUL "Clash of the Titans" regurgitation, and Tamina in Jerry Bruckheimer's "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time"), has been asked to meet with Ridley Scott for the lead female role in his upcoming Alien Prequel Duology. Previously, Scott had apparently asked to meet with Noomi Rapace, star of the original adaptation of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo", for what would appear to be the same part.

It seems that Scott is intent on following the same stipulations which lead to his casting of Sigourney Weaver in his original 1979 horror hit Aliens; tall, dark, lithe, and capable of kicking ass. This should be a relief to fans of the franchise, as it suggests that a strong, empowered female lead, and all the connotations that go with it and make Alien unique in the Hollywood sci-fi/horror genre, remain intact. This is especially promising in light of the fact that a truly abysmal script which leaked online early last year, "Alien Harvest", was supposed to be an early draft of the official screenplay by Jon Spaihts and featured two male leads who, among other things, engaged in forced homosexual sex. While sexuality has always been a large part of the Alien series, (and certainly homophobia is disgusting), the script was such a shambles that it received such nicknames as "Gaylien" and "Brokeback Planet" from the disgruntled fan base.

While many of Scott's comments seemed to gel with what was present in the "Alien Harvest" script, the breaking of the project into two films, the hiring of another writer and other developments are reassuring that the project is far from set in stone at this point, (not to mention that the leaked script was written in an entirely different style than that of other screenplays by writer Jon Spaihts).

In any case, the project seems to be on-track to be filmed by the Summer of next year, which should put the Prequels in theaters by 2012/2013 at the earliest and 2013/2014 at the latest, depending on how much Post-Production time is needed. With the Alien Prequel Duology, Lord of the Rings Prequel Duology, and X-Men: First Class all scheduled to hit screens over the next few years, it looks like we're going to be seeing a lot of the earlier years of our favorite cinematic universes.

She's really overrated as an actress. For the type of role this has the potentialof being, I'd rather see someone like Glau (great suggestion).

As the article states, these will be prequels and take place about 30 years prior to the original film story, so Ellen Ripley ain't gonna happen. These movies will be looking at the origin of the aliens.

Gemma Arterton is too attractive to be the female lead.
The entire point of having Sigourney Weaver was that she's rather mannish.
It's a plain and simple truth that hot women cannot do good action rolls, without it being bad in some way.
With Ripley, they weren't trying to be all "Oh look, our female character is soo cool AND attractive herp derp female empowerment."
No, Ripley was a believeable character BECAUSE they weren't trying to make her all oversexualized like they always try to these days.

And also, why the [frick] are you people talking about someone playing a young Ripley? Why would ANYONE be playing Ripley in these prequels? Why would she even be in the movies?
Are you forgetting that Ripley had NEVER come in contact with the Zenomorphs before Alien? And that to shoehorn her character into these for no reason would be the single stupidest thing you could possibly to to the movies?

AlexDeLarge87 - 9/6/2010, 10:49 AM
TANK@ Evangeline quit acting?!... Wow! I didnt know that! Well Cotillard is my number one choice now. Noomi Rapace is my second choice. She is beautiful, talented actress and can play very bad ass characters.

Oh and i dont think Ellen is in this? Because its prequel you know.

Noomi Rapace would've been an excellent choice, and I think anyone who's seen 'The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo' would agree. I'm not sure how great her English is though.

Summer Glau is really the science fiction pinnacle female, much like Sigourney. She looks like a younger Weaver. Sadly, I doubt they'll be using Ridley as this is about the creation of Aliens. Do those promising eyes in Alien say she recollects anything? Not really.

yeah this takes place before ripley. but lets see a cargo ship get hold of these alien eggs and the face huggers get on some of the animals that are being transported like cameleons and things like that. i think it would be cool to see a cameleon alien that can blend into its surroundings and some other cool abilities, and some other cool aliens forms would be nice.

NO! For some reason when I think of ALIEN I don't think of sex...that's why you need Maggie Gyllenhaal for the role.

I can't wait for this movie. I loved the first two Alien movies and this one sounds like it'll be pretty cool. Not sure about the casting choice though cause she isn't that great of an actress, but hopefully she'll surprise us.

By the way guys if you get the chance check out my Batman story by clicking the pic below

I wouldn't mind seeing Summer Glau in this. I'd prefer her over Gemma Arterton, not saying that anything is wrong with her.

No Ripley in this movie, I thought that was fact. Because it focusses on the story of the crashed ship they explore in the original movie. Something like that? Not sure anymore, but sure as hell they don't go with a young recasted Ripley...
