Could This Be The Rumored Marvel / Castle Crossover Teased By ABC?

Speaking during the "Television Critics Association" press tour this past summer, networks president Paul Lee teased that the hit show Castle would have a Marvel character involved in their upcoming storyline. Find out who it could be.

Take this with a huge grain of salt, as the source is coming from IMDB but also keep in mind that once in a blue moon, IMDB is right.

I found an interesting tidbit that just doesn't seem right. I was looking around for some Avengers news and came across the name Lyle Lovett. I remember the handsome chap from country music back in the 80's or 90's. What does he have to do with the Avengers. I slid over to "ole reliable" IMDB and type him in. It seems Mr. Lovett has a small role as an Agent Westfield in the Avengers. Odd? Yes Indeed, BUT I noticed that he plays an Agent Westfield on the Nathan Fillion show Castle as well.

I looked around and found no connection, so I decided to ask my fellow CBMers, who could topple governments with their collective intelligence, if they might have some secret information. Am I looking for something that isn't there or am I on to something???? conspiracy or coincidence?????

And here's a recap of what network president, Paul Lee had to say:

"You know, I don't know if I'm allowed to say it, but we've got a really cool storyline with a Marvel character that appears on Castle this year. If you guys haven't seen the finale for Castle from this past season, it's extraordinary. [Castle creator] Andrew Marlow is really hitting his stride. And that was an underrated show that really found its momentum. And there's one episode, and I'm probably giving away a secret and I shouldn't because Andrew is going to kill me, with a Marvel superhero character. Andrew is so smart. He's always thinking ahead. He's got an amazing Halloween episode, so I think I give Andrew all the credit – although the Marvel guys are superb."

Again take this as just a rumor for now. Confirm or Debunk in the usual place!

Agreed with above, Though...

IGN TV report that the ABC portion of the 'Television Critics Association' saw the networks president Paul Lee reveal that a Marvel comic book character will be turning up in the next season of Castle, starting actor Nathan Fillion.

I'm thinking it would be more of an actual Marvel character, maybe AKA Jessica Jones or the Hulk TV shows that are being developed

anything is possible, but since it was on imdb, then i doubt it

Considering that Paul Lee said "Marvel superhero character", I'm going to assume that it's someone well known and super-powered. Yeah Jessica Jones could work, but I've got a sneaking suspicion that it will be a cosplayer or criminal dressed as a hero. The Halloween part though...Maybe it's a hallucination or something?

My guess is Castle will dress up as a superhero for the Halloween episode, it's how they got him back in his Firefly costume last year; I don't think it will be anything major.

My guess he will be dressed up as Ant-Man this halloween. But Castle is a good show so I will watch anyway.

I'm not saying I'm right. It was just a strange coincidence, same actor, same character. We shall see.

While I'd love to see a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent or Jessica Jones, I bet that KurtWagner is right about a Halloween episode.

I am all for Castle wearing an Ant Man costume IF he can convince his partner Beckett (Stana Katic) to wear a Wasp costume!

It's really exciting that they did a Marvel crossover!...It's like nothing that's ever been done before...!!.Iitttss... Lyle Lovett?.. Meh

The last exciting thing Lyle Lovett did was Julia Roberts... BAZINGA!

Westfeld? really? That's the best "crossover" they can do? Not even Jessica Jones?

I noticed that awhile ago as well, and thought it was interesting thou, yah, IMDb is often wrong. In another thread Chewtoy had pointed out that Agent Westfield was very shield like. What may make this true is that Andrew Marlow is suppose to be working on a shield movie scrip. That's also from IMDB and Wiki so take it with a grain of salt, but ... it may all add up to something.
Lokibegoodstick
Lokibegoodstick - 9/12/2011, 10:02 AM
oh and @scurvydog619 Castle isn't his real last name its really ....Rogers. So he could be related to the Cap.
Curmudgeon
Curmudgeon - 9/12/2011, 10:12 AM
That doesn't work.

Lovett's character has already appeared on the show.

It can't be a crossover appearance by a Marvel character, if it's a character who originated on Castle.
Lokibegoodstick
Lokibegoodstick - 9/12/2011, 10:23 AM
@Curmudgeon true but Westfield acted like a shield agent, I hope he comes back but brings agent Coulson along.
Curmudgeon
Curmudgeon - 9/12/2011, 10:29 AM
Now see, bringing in Coulson would work, if they did it.

But for now, retconning Westfield into a SHIELD agent doesn't seem like it's enough for them to say they're going to have an episode with "a Marvel superhero character".

FRANK CASTLE in Castle.

If he's appearing in both as the same character I guess we can rule out Fillion as Ant-Man.
Chewtoy
Chewtoy - 9/12/2011, 11:42 AM
Yeah, as Lokibegoodstick mentions, when this news first dropped I mentioned Lovett's guest appearance. He played a very mysterious government agent who never identified which agency he worked for and it was suggested that had access to some rather impressive tech. As the episode in question revolved around UFO conspiracies, he was clearly meant to be a Man in Black... but I mentioned they could just as easily reveal him to have been SHIELD as well.

Either way, my money is still on an Agent Coulson cameo, either with or without Lovett.

If people want to see Lovett acting very much like Agent Coulson, here's a YouTube link:

http://youtu.be/WwXjrW2pz04

Earlier in the episode he abducted the leads using an EMP generator, and his mysterious agency cleaned out the office of a murdered astrophysicist. Castle does accuse him and his partner of being "MIB" and then "Shape-shifting Aliens!" In the end, the alien stuff seems to have been a red-herring... someone was retasking a radio telescope to intercept a spy satellite on behalf of the Chinese government.

It's Coulsen. They're pushing his character because of the success from their genius casting. He's going to pop up every where now. He'll be the face of Marvel to some degree - WATCH!!! And he'll push for a tv series or sol movie.

@chewtoy glad you saw this, I was going to mention this to you sometime but obviously maddmonkk found it fist. to Shhh and others the Punisher angle is possible just as a joke, but Castle real name is Rogers not Castle, Castle is his Pen name.

@ Maddmonkk well it could be true, on the other hand it is IMDB so who knows. I'd totally be happy with a Westfield cameo in the Avengers.
Also did some looking and Andrew Marlowe did write a Nick Fury scrip so hes obviously interested. check out herehttp://comicbookmovie.com/fansites/Wolvie09/news/?a=21275#comments for an interview about it. @Friendly Marvel is going to publish a book based on a character Castle invented.

Spidey, Castle is with ABC which is owned by Disney; and we all know who Disney bought not too long ago.
