"He's feeling lost, vulnerable, defeated, emotionally drained and hurt, and here is Yondu in this light coming down and brings him up into the spacecraft and takes him away," Michael Rooker told USA Today about how his blue-hued character first encounters Peter Quill (Chris Pratt). "It might have been pretty horrific, but also a bit cool." As Quill's surrogate father figure, Yondu raises him alongside his Ravengers, "an outer-space biker gang of sorts usually up to no good," reports USA Today. Yondu has "some interesting issues — not a good guy, not a bad guy. There's hope and there's a heart inside Yondu," Rooker says. "It's not so black and white — I should say blue and white. And I enjoy roles that are like that, even if they're not in some galaxy somewhere other than ours." Though Rooker's Yondu doesn't have the tall trademark red fin, he does have a mohawk and will be equipped with the character's whistle-controlled arrow from the comics. Michael Rooker also reveals he grew his nails out for the part, which James Gunn wrote for him. "They're not so long and pointy that they're like demon things, and yet they're not so manicured like a regular human guy." There are some heavy spoilers in the source link that accompanied the following Guardians of the Galaxy stills, so head over to USA Today with caution.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film opens August 1, 2014

Movie is going to kick ass. But I do wish Yondu had a ridiculously exuberant red mohawk instead of a metal slab stabbed into his head.

Not impressed with his design at all. Not liking the metallic fin either. Him and Gamora's makeup design seem so lazily distinguishable.

I see a freak of green,
red jackets too.
I see them in disgust,
for me and you.
And I think to myself,
what a wonderful world.

I see of a Yondu of blue,
And lights of white.
The bright blessed day,
The dark sacred night.
And I think to myself,
What a wonderful world.

Wait - are Yondu's Ravengers the fleet that the Milano leads on the Xandar (attack) scenes? Thought he was working with Ronan.

Still wish there was a little more fin on the top of his head. Been reading Guardians since the original team and THAT is Yondu's distinguisble trait. It didn't have to be 3 feet high but surely with special effects like Rocket and Groot -CG could had enhanced a more pronounced fin without effecting actor performance. Still not accepting this as Yondu from the comics but an ancestor since Yondu of the original Guardians is a future character.

This may be the shittiest shit you've ever read, but I'd think it'd fit the whole comedy aspect of the film while paying source to the comics:

There's this one scene I can imagine where Yondu is talking to them about his years as a Guardian of the Galaxy and then he tells a story about him fighting some aliens or stuff like that and, in the process, gets his fin on his head chopped off, and that's why he has that big ass metal brick on his head.

Don't quite understand the lack of the fin. They could have scaled it down and made it red. Don't like the flat metal looking mohawk.

If he is an anti hero, than I am cool with that. If he is a villian than I Will be upset. He is an original Guardian!

I don't really care for the large fin. I guess I can't really picture it on him.

People were complaining about the Abomination lack of ears before TIH and they quickly forgot they were missing once the movie came out.
TheActionAce
TheActionAce - 7/8/2014, 9:23 PM
His fin was probably chopped off, if he ever encountered Thanos or some other big time villain

or could be cool if it pops out when in battle mode, hey I am still hoping to see or have a mention of it in the film

I think he looks fine, maybe he's just very old now and lost his flare. If that's the case, I hope we get to see him in all his 3 feet mo-hawk glory.
