With Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy currently the "#1 movie in the universe," concept artists who worked on the film in its early days have showcased their contributions. One is Goran Bukvic, whose work features weapons that belong to the Badoon, the secondary villain alien race that was replaced by the Sakaaran in the film due to 20th Century Fox holding their rights. Also, previously-seen concept art by artist Stephan Martiniere has revealed an environment that also didn't appear in Guardians. As Slash Film has pointed out and explained, Martiniere's art piece features the planet Spartoi, which is home to Star-Lord's father J'son in the Marvel Comics. Check it out below!

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film opens August 1, 2014

It looks like Gunn originally planned to explore Quill's parentage a bit more and introduce the Spartoi.

We should've seen all these in the movie. Would've made it more of a "spece epic". Not bashing but certain elements took me out of the film.

@EzioKenway1225
I guess. To me, when your doing a movie in space and it takes place on different planets, galaxies, etc. you shouldn't really have many humanoid characters and GOTG had alot of them. It took me out of the 'space adventure' feel of it all.

Hope they do that in the sequel, good movie though.

They need more worlds and each new world should have a new race and a few super heroes to help protect it .

As much as the opening scene is great, I wish that Marvel owned the film rights to the Badoon.

Seriously, who wouldn't want to see a sequence like what they showed in the Guardians Marvel Now! issue, in which young Star-Lord watches his mother get killed by the Badoon and discovers his alien heritage? That would be cool.

@jcamer0n

WB WILL put out a unified universe.
It's coming.

Someday.

It'll be great.
REALLY.

I mean, Marvel Studios is cementing a new genre that DC will be able to take advantage of, also.
Just you wait . . .

It'll be great. You can trust WB. They only put out good movies after exhaustive research to make sure they've picked the right character.

Fox should just be like "Hey guys, we honestly have no intention of using the Badoon. Like ever. So here, they're yours. And let's be real. We're not gonna use the Skrulls either so take them too. But we're keeping the Negative Zone."

Marvel Studios "Wow, that's really cool of you! We hate to get greedy, but we don't have the rights to this Guardians of the Galaxy character named Bug..."

Fox "Oh, yeah! That guy! I've got absolutely no idea why, but we have him! Somebody probably thought he was related to Annihilus and paid like $50 more dollars to get him. You got a dollar on you?"

Marvel "Yeah."

Fox "I'll take that. And you now own Bug!"

Marvel "Wow, thanks! I'm glad we've got this great, cooperative relationship!"

Fox "Yeah, it's pretty cool! So about this AvX movie.."
