Marvel Extends Shortlist For DOCTOR STRANGE Role with Jake Gyllenhaal Among Other Actors
Following Ewan McGregor, five big name actors including Jake Gyllenhaal & Matthew McConaughey have reportedly made Marvel Studios' current shortlist for the Doctor Strange role. Check it out!
Just hours after Ewan McGregor entered the mix for Doctor Strange, Variety has listed five other actors who are said to be on Marvel's current shortlist. In addition to the aforementioned Star Wars veteran, the trade source reveals that the studio and director Scott Derrickson are now looking at actors Jake Gyllenhaal, Oscar Isaac, Jared Leto, Ethan Hawke, and Matthew McConaughey to potentally play the Sorcerer Supreme on the big-screen. While Oscar-winner Leto is "aggressively pursuing the mystical part" since Joaquin Phoenix dropped out of contention, Gyllenhaal is "quite interested in playing a superhero" after starring in gloomy films as of late. As for Jared Leto's Dallas Buyers Club co-star and fellow Oscar-winner Matthew McConaughey, Marvel is said to be pursuing the Interstellar star in confidence given the likes of Joaquin Phoenix was once drawn to the project, but his busy schedule could prevent him from signing the enforced multi-picture contract. And as previously reported, Ewan McGregor is "expected to meet for the role" soon as he's been researching the character. Regarding the last two contenders, Oscar Issac and Ethan Hawke, there are no further details given on the nature of their contention, however, the latter actor recently expressed interest in the role. Anyhow, the film is expected to be released sometime in 2016.
