Three More For Thor

AICN is reporting that Matthias Schweighöfer is in the running for a role in Thor, along with Robert De Niro & Jude Law!
Hey folks, Ain't-It-Cool-News is reporting that Matthias Schweighöfer is in running for THOR, but he also mentions Robert & Jude. Here is what the article stated:

According to actor, Matthias Schweighöfer, who you may have seen in VALKYRIE or RED BARON - in an article in the German edition of Gentlemen's Quarterly aka GQ, he states that he's in the running for a role in Branagh's THOR, but he also mentions that Jude Law and Robert DeNiro have joined the cast.

There isn't another source yet, so I don't know how you guys should take this. I'll do more research.

teabag - 10/17/2009, 3:34 PM
Hmmm...not sure if I believe this. Law is in Holmes with Downey Jr so its possible that he may have convinced him to be in a CBM and the guy is in a Shakespeare play of some sort right now so Im sure that Brannagh could convince him to join the cast but DeNiro seems like a long shot!
joshw24 - 10/17/2009, 3:45 PM
Maybe Law could be Donald Blake?

I have no idea who DeNiro could be though, should the rumor be true.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/17/2009, 4:02 PM
JUDE LAW makes an Awesome STARFOX lol!

Though he could be one of them 3, you, know Robin Hood type guy, or like TYLER said, DONALD BLAKE?

AS for ROBERT D, i very much doubt it lol!

LEEE777 - 10/17/2009, 4:07 PM
Deniro was in that shit Stardust as a cross dresser so who knows lol
teabag - 10/17/2009, 4:18 PM

Hawksblueyes - 10/17/2009, 7:45 PM
YUP FANDRAL...I ALWAYS PICTURE THAT LEAD HERO IN PRINCESS BRIDE PLAYING FANDRAL..MEHH
GUNSMITH - 10/17/2009, 7:52 PM
BRENDAN GLEESON-VOLSTAGG FANDRAL-JUDE LAW HOGUN-I DUNNO
GUNSMITH - 10/17/2009, 7:56 PM
Jude Law might be ok... but Robert DeNiro? Really?
screams - 10/17/2009, 7:58 PM
I guess I could see Law as Fandral...Im still puzzled over DeNiro though!
joshw24 - 10/17/2009, 8:02 PM
Hard to say. Man that German kid looks young. Maybe he's playing a boyhood pal of Thor's or something. Maybe a young Balder the Brave.
DarthMulder - 10/17/2009, 8:02 PM
@GUNSMITH: I always thought Cary Elwes would have been perfect for Fandral! Unfortunately he looks like sh*t now

MultiPurposePoni - 10/17/2009, 8:03 PM
OH DAMN WHAT THE FOK HAPPENED CARY ELWES???????2 CHINS?
GUNSMITH - 10/17/2009, 8:06 PM
@luffy, sigh..

I can't imagine Deniro playing anybody in Thor. Maybe a cameo as a taxi driver?
supermarioworldE - 10/17/2009, 8:06 PM
WHAT DENIRO PLAYING? ODIN? ICE GIANT?
GUNSMITH - 10/17/2009, 8:07 PM
Robert DeNiro for Odin!

"You talkin' to Odin? You talkin' to ODIN?!"
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/17/2009, 8:09 PM
DeNiro always plays DeNiro. Just like Pacino and Walken, they only come across as being themselves in every film. Can you imagine him trying to act with a Shakespearean tongue? It would be laughable.
MultiPurposePoni - 10/17/2009, 8:10 PM
@InTylerWeTrust82- LMFAO
Magicfingers - 10/17/2009, 8:27 PM
I can see Jude Law as Fandral, actually.

MistressKizuna - 10/17/2009, 8:56 PM
Jude does look like Fandral.

but Dinero ?
freakybatman - 10/17/2009, 9:11 PM
Freaky@ I'm with you homeboy Robert deniro in this flick is gonna be so weird idk hopefully he's an extra
SdProphet - 10/17/2009, 9:19 PM
I think this is pretty obviously false.
slimybug - 10/17/2009, 9:32 PM
Ah man! I wanted Jude to play Daredevil!

Betty - 10/17/2009, 9:44 PM
I can see Law in it. But DeNeiro? I like DeNeiro and I think he woukld be great in a CBM, but not Thor. Maybe he will be in the modern Earth set part of the film...

But he is a good actor.
THEHAWK - 10/17/2009, 9:46 PM
in responce too

"he also mentions that Jude Law and Robert DeNiro have joined the cast." Jude I can see being in this, but Deniro?? hell no. im calling BS on this one.

Freaky@ I'm with you homeboy Robert deniro in this flick is gonna be so weird idk hopefully he's an extra
SdProphet - 10/17/2009, 10:12 PM
WTF happened to Cary Lewis
thegreek - 10/17/2009, 10:17 PM
If DeNiro is in the movie, there is no way he'll have a small part. He's way too big to have in a small role, to the studios at least.

Though I really don't think he'd fit in the Thor universe, should the rumor be true of course.
InTylerWeTrust82 - 10/17/2009, 10:20 PM
DeNiro would have to be in a Punisher movie or something similar.
MovieTheaterLad - 10/17/2009, 10:29 PM
Jude law as the She Hulk? Preposterous ! Yet intriguing!!!
shibazz - 10/18/2009, 3:08 AM
SHIB @ Lmao!!! : D

MovieLad @ Terrible choice for DD lol, but i agree with ya IF DE NIRO did a MARVEL it would he would be perfect as top billing for a PUNISHER movie, infact it would put PUNISHER back on the map at the movies!!! Bring back TOM JANE and the PUNISHER movie poster alone would bring 'em in, Gold!!

TYLER @ You are deff right there on THOR.

And Hell Yes to this!!!

LEEE777 - 10/18/2009, 4:00 AM
Ugh...Jude Law as Daredevil is a horrible choice!

As for DeNiro, how about Dum Dum Dugan, lol? Obviously thats not a Thor character but I actually think he'd be pretty good in that role!

dum
joshw24 - 10/18/2009, 6:37 AM
No to robert deniro.

@ josh

see, i like dum dum dugan, but i always pictured him as being a little more "red necky", if you know what i mean? something deniro, isn't. but who knows, maybe he'll be a frost giant, lol.
CorndogBurglar - 10/18/2009, 7:08 AM
Corndogburglar-----Deniro played a badass redneck killer in Cape Fear.
Hawksblueyes - 10/18/2009, 7:27 AM
Remember that the story apparently doesn't all take place in Asgard. De Niro could just be some guy from NY. He plays them well. Or somebody's dad?
merkasylum - 10/18/2009, 8:23 AM
TRUE DENIRO COULD BE PLAYING NATALIE PORTMAN'S DAD...HEY THOR MEET THE FOCKERS..
GUNSMITH - 10/18/2009, 8:46 AM
i thought that branagh's previous collaboration with de niro really might be an early indication that branagh knows what to do when the subject matter of a film has elements that are both dark, serious and stern as well as fantastical to the point of near-absurdism. in 'mary shelley's frankenstein' i really enjoyed the collision of the sort of whimsical, period-melodrama with the achingly physical, literal life of the monster. i expect good things with this upcomingt thor project.

by the by, merkasylum...i agree with you that de niro will likely not be playing an otherworldly immortal...he's likely to be someone encountered in the 'real' world of the film.
inlovewiththeregencyelf - 10/18/2009, 8:46 AM
joshw24...you are absolutely right about how awful a pick jude law is for daredevil. it's this same problem that is so contagious these days when it comes to casting comic book heroes: when films are made about heroes who exist in the comic book source material as grown men of a certain age and are cast as permanent adolescent-types...ala brandon routh as the man of steel.

i mean, i like jude law. he's a terrific actor and a master of creating character voices and mannerisms. however, when he plays dark it comes out creepy, smarmy, nutty dark--as in 'midnight in the garden of good and evil' and 'road to perdition.' law does not have enough of a girthy, syrupy, strong, harshly pensive, quiet-type way about him to get to the center of matt murdoch or daredevil.
inlovewiththeregencyelf - 10/18/2009, 8:54 AM
inlovewiththeregencyelf-- right on!

However, I don't think it's that much of a stretch for Deniro to play an immortal. Deniro's portrayal of Frankenstein was completely shocking to me and his performance was complex and full of emotion. To me, it was some of his best work.

At the time I didn't always know who was going to be in the movie I was going to see and I actually didn't know it was him until I saw his name in the credits.
Betty - 10/18/2009, 9:06 AM
betty--you know, maybe i am being closed minded about de niro playing an immortal because he is so natural a fit as a new yorkish-type. he is more than capable of turning his voice away from his urban, city accent.

who do you think de niro could, or should, portray in the thor universe?

i am not sure about tom hiddleston as loki...i haven't seen him in anything. have you?
inlovewiththeregencyelf - 10/18/2009, 9:28 AM
DeNiro for the gay burglar.
Simonsonrules - 10/18/2009, 9:45 AM
Lets not forget the guy agreed to be in that stupid Rocky and Bullwinkle thingy :(
teabag - 10/18/2009, 10:18 AM
ROBERT DeNIRO..WTF!! he whould not fit into thor. who would he be? one of thor's asguardin warrior's, no way he would stick out like a soar thumb.
peterparker420 - 10/18/2009, 10:44 AM

What's wrong with Jude Law as Daredevil? He's suave, handsome, skinny yet fit, cool-headed, and surely a better actor than Ben Afflek!
MovieTheaterLad - 10/18/2009, 1:08 PM
Jude Law is Fandral deffinitley
Ryden - 10/18/2009, 1:39 PM
MovieTheaterLad: Lol, funny pic! Jude Law is a good actor but Id prefer either Misha Collins or Michael C. Hall as Daredevil! :)
joshw24 - 10/18/2009, 2:08 PM
What about William Katt as Thor? That is if he were to work out a lot with weights. I have not seen a recent picture of him though,so who knows?
MJG956 - 10/18/2009, 2:58 PM
why is everyone hating on deniro? He's a great actor, and I really don't see why he'd be out of place in a movie like this.
thwhtGuardian - 10/18/2009, 5:07 PM
DeNiro for Odin
MrAnonymous - 10/18/2009, 5:08 PM
@Josh

See, I already got them picked out for characters.

MovieTheaterLad - 10/19/2009, 1:09 AM
Jude Law could be either Balder the Brave or Fandral. I was thinking that Kenneth Branagh would play Fandral. As far as DeNiro, i'm sure that Branagh knows what he's doing and is comfortable with him due to their past working relationship. Maybe DeNiro as Heimdall if that wasn't cast yet.
usclerkguy - 10/19/2009, 4:04 AM
"DeNiro always plays DeNiro. Just like Pacino and Walken, they only come across as being themselves in every film. Can you imagine him trying to act with a Shakespearean tongue? It would be laughable. "

That's what they said about Brando back in the 50's; then he got an Oscar nod for "Juluus Caesar".
JohnnyKrypton - 10/19/2009, 7:29 AM
De Niro doesn't fit at all in this sh!t.

Then again - he was in Stardust........And he was hilarious..........

Hmmm....
Keven - 10/19/2009, 8:57 AM
@MJG956- Ummm Thor's already been cast it's Chris Hemsworth, and Katt looks nothing like Thor and is far too old man sorry :)
Ryden - 10/19/2009, 9:03 AM
I think what's really interesting about all these casting rumours isn't so much WHO they're mentioning but rather the CALIBRE of the acting talents being mentioned.
It's obvious that Marvel are really pushing the boat out when it comes to making the best films they can and employing talent that adds weight and gravitas to the end product.
Both Iron Man & The Incredible Hulk featured actors who are recognised as 'serious' artistes that seem to work well given any material and, if these rumours are to be believed, the trend looks to be continued.
Another bonus to this level of casting is that, to the average cinema-goer, these films look as though the're to be taken a little more seriously than they would have done were they populated by unknown (yes, Routh, I'm talking about you) actors.
While they seem a litle far-fetched and have the habit of being more than a little frustrating for those of us waiting for the official word on these matters, these big-name rumours can have the effect of raising the awareness of these films so that the average tabloid reader will become aware that something worthwhile and very interesting is happening - never a bad thing.

I'm not slagging Routh off, I thought he was hilarious in Zack & Miri Make a Porno.

Oh, and I still reckon the best actor to play Odin would be Brian Blessed. Hehehehe...
