From Academy Award-winning film-maker Peter Jackson comes The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the third in a trilogy of films adapting the enduringly popular masterpiece The Hobbit, by JRR Tolkien. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies brings to an epic conclusion the adventures of Bilbo Baggins, Thorin Oakenshield and the Company of Dwarves. Having reclaimed their homeland from the Dragon Smaug, the Company has unwittingly unleashed a deadly force into the world. Enraged, Smaug rains his fiery wrath down upon the defenseless men, women and children of Lake-town.Obsessed above all else with his reclaimed treasure, Thorin sacrifices friendship and honor to hoard it as Bilbo's frantic attempts to make him see reason drive the Hobbit towards a desperate and dangerous choice. But there are even greater dangers ahead. Unseen by any but the Wizard Gandalf, the great enemy Sauron has sent forth legions of Orcs in a stealth attack upon the Lonely Mountain. As darkness converges on their escalating conflict, the races of Dwarves, Elves and Men must decide: unite or be destroyed. Bilbo finds himself fighting for his life and the lives of his friends in Battle of the Five Armies, as the future of Middle-Earth hangs in the balance. Starring Martin Freeman, Benedict Cumberbatch, Lee Pace, Luke Evans, Evangeline Lilly, Cate Blanchett, Ian McKellen, Orlando Bloom and Hugo Weaving,The Battle of the Five Armies hits December 17, 2014.

It's highly improbable that this could be worse than Desolation of Smaug, so yay TBOTFA I guess!

Looks like fun, with a little epicness on the side! I don't get you guys, half the time everyone's complaining that these flicks are trying too hard to be a lotr prequel, then the other half the tone is too light and too different from lotr! I know the majority of fanboys are impossible to please but come on, these movies accomplish what they're supposed to, for me anyway. They're entertaining, nothing more. If it's too different to the book, then read the book. I personally prefer these to the LOTR movies which I found a little dour and dull at times, even though I know they are technically superior movies. But get over the barrel ride and shit. If you can't handle a little sillyness in a movie about wizards and goblins, remind yourself that these are primarily for kids. It's a kids story.

It is based on a children's book, I hope most people get that through their heads. I like that material is added in from other books or created to flesh out the characters, it sets a more fulfilling story.
