Tyrese Gibson As 'John Stewart'? TRANSFORMERS Star Charges Up GREEN LANTERN 'Rumor'

Is Tyrese teasing that he's up for the Green Lantern role in the planned reboot, or is his most recent post on Instagram just his shameless way of lobbying for the part? Check it out after the jump!

As Warner Bros. announced last year, the Green Lantern reboot is set for release on June 19, 2020, and is currently the last DC Comics film on the studio's superhero slate. However, it's been implied that a fresh take on the Emerald Crusader will feature in Zack Snyder's two-part Justice League movies in 2017 and 2018, which makes it somewhat interesting that singer/actor Tyrese Gibson (Transformers) recently posted fan-art of himself as the Green Lantern on Instagram and with the caption: "Rumor has it that." Given this would be a Warner Bros. production, Gibson is not likely teasing that he has the role or is even in talks, but he could be taking cues from his Fast & Furious 6 co-star Vin Diesel, whose social media lobbying landed him in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sure, this might not be the best way to join DC's Universe, but what do you think of the Green Lantern reboot focusing on the John Stewart iteration and with Tyrese Gibson behind his portrayal?

Rumor has it that.

I liked the John Stewart from the animated series...this guy seems passable, but possibly too goofy.

No! If it's a solo Lantern movie than it HAS TO BE HAL! No other freaking way. His mythology is too deep, and his character is perfect. Guy(even though he's my favorite) is too much of an @$$, Kyle can't come in until later, and John has the personify of a wooden plank! I like Simon Baz more than john Stewart. Personally, I think it should be a corps movie, focusing on the group dynamic of the four earth Lanterns. That way everyone is happy and it sets it apart from the 2011 movie. Not up for John in the league or leading a solo film.

Great. Instead of badass soldier GL, we get the dude whose first construct will be a fashionable pair of Capri pants with a man-purse. Fail

One of the reasons I disliked the DCAU. I hate it when people ask for Wally, John or Hawkgirl over Barry, Hal or Aquaman. When was the last time Hawkgirl even mattered? Since when was John ever the most interesting Green Lantern? Hal was the driving force for the L mythos for the longest time.

I want Hal, but if they go with John...not Tyrese Gibson.

If Geoff Johns is producing the Justice League movie, I don't think John Stewart will be the Green Latern of the League. He may be JS but not in the Justice League

Do me a favor Snyder, if there is ever a Green Arrow movie please stay out of it and for the love of the comic book gods don't cast it.

I thought Snyder said he wanted and older darker Hal?..in any case we've all been burnt by a big screen version of Jordan before..I'd love to see John Stewart instead. Not Gibson tho.

The animated Justice League show from Bruce Timm &Co revitalized John Stewart and made him a compelling character; so, yes to John Stewart. I'd rather see a better actor than Tyreese portray him though: someone like LL Cool J, Omar Epps or Idris Elba.

I know Cyke is gonna be in it but having two black heroes in JL could really set it apart from the all-white Avengers.

Like JL: Two african americans, an israeli woman (greek in-universe), a hawaian dude, a british hunk (alien in-universe) and two american guys.

Avengers: 4 white americans, an australian (alien in-universe), 2 european ladies (both played by american actresses) and a british dude.

Diversity+Justice League= $$$$$$$

Nope. He has no range as an actor. He plays the same character in every movie.

Also, if Johns is an executive producer and story supervison will he push for new52 characters?

Like, in the Flash movie is Wally West going to be black?

i prefer John Stewart to be the WB's DCCU's GL, rather than Hal, BUT...i don't think Tyrese would be a good idea. go with someone unknown, but talented, a la WB/DCE's own Ray Fisher, or Marvel's Chadwick Boseman.

@mostezil @AquamanIsTheBest probably the best idea I've ever heard for a Green Lantern movie in a while now
