It was announced just a couple days ago that Tye Sheridan will tackle the role of Scott Summers aka Cyclops in X-Men: Apocalypse which will be the 1980s iteration of the mutant that was originally portrayed by actor James Marsden in the present-day X-Men trilogy as well as a cameo appearance in last year's X-Men: Days of Future Past. Well, Marsden was attending the Sundance Film Festival today in Utah where HitFix had pressed him for thoughts on his  Cyclops successor. "I think he's a wonderfully talented actor who blew me away in Mud," said Marsden of Tye Sheridan and his 2012 breakout role. "I've never seen a kid that young be that present and that powerful. So, I think he's a perfect fit and I congratulate him." Video of the 30-second interview can be found below in addition to some pretty cool fan art (by BossLogic) featuring Tye Sheridan as Cyclops.

Directed by Bryan Singer, X-Men: Apocalypse stars Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), James McAvoy (Professor X), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), with Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), and Oscar Isaac (Apocalypse). The movie reportedly starts shooting this summer and will hit theaters on May 27, 2016. What do you think?

I watched Mud last year. He was great along side McConaughey. One of my favourite movies so far.

He was really good in Mud. Haven't seen many other boys (his age at the time) like him.

Sucks for Marsden though.

I liked him in Joe with Nic Cage. Cage himself was great in that.

Still need to see Mud.

I hope they treat the character much better.
This guys got magnetic talent and could definitely be the star with Jean, without the need for Wolverine.

I hated Marsden as Cyclops. Love most of the X-Men films but he just always came across as whiny.

Not feeling a big nosed Cyclops. Too bad Singer screwed Mardsen's role.

Never seen people attack a director and his personal lifestyle so viciously over such a stupid reason as comic book media.

"wah Cyclops isn't a big character in the X-Men films, Bryan Singer likes little boys haha"

James always seemed to get the short end of the stick in these movies. I'm sure he could've been a real cool Cyclops, given the right script.

hopefully they don't give his character the shaft again. I know everyone loves Wolverine, but come on. Cyclops is the leader

Cyclops has been a boring character for the most part, and Wolverine has always been portrayed as more "cool" and "interesting".

And yet all the nonsensical fanboys here can do is cry and cry about how the forever amazing Cyclops was always portrayed as such.

I say let them do a spin off flick for Marsden after the success for both Tatum and Reynolds in their own flicks. A solo Cyclops film could really help pave the way for the redemption of his character. Even if it means coming in contact with his father and the Starjammers after all these years. It could honestly be done right. Throw a modern Havok in there as well to stir the tension even more.

They could follow the route of All new X-Men by stirring that arc in with a new adapted approach towards the Phoenix franchise. Have him lose his way with the X-Men after they discover the Shi'ar empire and have a spin off flick focusing on how he comes back into contact with his father and how he winds up finding his way back just in time to help defend Jean or something like that.

God, I wish I was in the X-Men department at Fox right now. lol

If they're already a part of the X-Men by the time the film starts off I really hope to see some costumes being designed for them.
