Kevin Feige Offers New Details On 'BLACK PANTHER' Role In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

The latest from Birth.Movies.Death's Ant-Man press junket interview with Kevin Feige has the Marvel Studios President of Production offer new details on the role that the Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) will play in Captain America: Civil War as well as in the 2018 standalone movie. The producer was first asked if T'Challa will actually be the Black Panther, as opposed to his father T'Chaka (Ernie Hudson?), when we meet him next year. "I don’t know how to answer that question without spoiling it!" Feige started. "It is a role that he is still in the beginning phases of taking on, it’s a mantle he is only beginning to take on because his father is older."

Kevin Feige was then asked why T'Challa's cinematic debut will be in Captain America: Civil War as opposed to the Black Panther movie, which is currently scheduled for release on July 6, 2018. "The reason we introduced him in Civil War is because we needed a third party," the producer explained. "We needed fresh eyes who wasn’t embedded with the Avengers and who has a very different point of view than either Tony or Steve. We said, ‘We need somebody like Black Panther… why don’t we just use Black Panther?’ That’s how it went in the development process."

Finally, given Captain America: Civil War takes place after the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron, Kevin Feige was asked what would T'Challa and T'Chaka be up to right now, before they grace te silver-screen next year. "Today, pre-Civil War, post-Ultron I think he and his father are saying, ‘A bunch of vibranium just got out of here and wreaked a lot of havoc," ezplained Feige. "Maybe we can’t stay behind these borders anymore, maybe we have to stick our heads out and make at least an attempt to be a part of the rest of the world right now, while at the same time protecting our people.’ That’s sort of where we meet him in Civil War." What do you think?

Directed by Anthony & Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain. Starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Emily VanCamp, Daniel Brühl, Frank Grillo, William Hurt, and Martin Freeman, Captain America: Civil War is set for release on May 6, 2016.

He's black, so he will probably die within the first half of the movie.

From the source article:

"I asked Feige more about the set-up for Civil War in Ant-Man, but that’s heavy spoiler material, so look for that after release."

@SauronsBANE Man, I would totally love Stephen Dillane aka Stannis as Ulysses Klaue if it wasn't Andy Serkis!

@WakandasSoul Another of Feige's quotes makes it seem like it'll have more to do with the aftermath of Age of Ultron than whatever other international incident happens in Civil War itself:

"“Today, pre-Civil War, post-Ultron I think he and his father are saying, ‘A bunch of vibranium just got out of here and wreaked a lot of havoc. Maybe we can’t stay behind these borders anymore, maybe we have to stick our heads out and make at least an attempt to be a part of the rest of the world right now, while at the same time protecting our people.’ That’s sort of where we meet him in Civil War," explained Feige."

@Reasonnnn Huh, I could actually see that! I mean, Serkis definitely kicked ass as Klaue and I'm glad he got the role...but if Game of Thrones is any indication, Dillane could easily pull off that whole 'menacing badass villain' role too. Good call!

@WakandasSoul You got it! But yeah, it was definitely smart of Whedon (and Feige?) to insist on involving Klaue and Vibranium in Age of Ultron. It was a set-up for so much stuff without even having to show Wakanda or T'Challa at all.

Though I do wonder how much the new international incident (with the Avengers and Crossbones, I guess) affects things, and if that has any impact on Black Panther getting involved, too.

@WakandasSoul Haha I still remember how people were trying to say that those set pics in what looks like the slums were supposed to be the technologically-advanced Wakanda. But yeah, it's probably taking place somewhere in Africa so maybe Age of Ultron convinces T'Challa to come out of hiding, and that scene with Crossbones is where he finally makes his appearance? That'd be EPIC.

@SauronsBANE @KurtWagner1225 @WakandasSoul I love this, ALL OF IT.

Currently reading Reginald Hudlin's run on Black Panther (Vol. 4) and I'm loving it. :)
