Peyton Reed On 'Ant-Man' Becoming 'Giant Man'... Possibly In CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

In light of rumors that Scott Lang will literally reach new heights when he returns in Captain America: Civil War, Ant-Man director Peyton Reed has now discussed the possibility of the size-shifting superhero taking on the Giant Man form. Check it out after the jump!

When Peyton Reed sat down recently with Screen Junkies, the Ant-Man director was asked if/when we might see Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) or even Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) take on the Giant-Man form which both characters have done in Marvel Comics. “Listen, I think with Hank Pym and Scott Lang, and with that technology, I think it’s safe to say at some point somewhere you’re going to see some real growth...,” said Reed, pausing to look at the camera before continuing, “...for that character. I hedge my bet there, because it could be sort of growth as a human being, emotional growth, or literal giant growth. There’s a good chance of that.” Well played Mr. Reed, well played.

While Ant-Man introduced how the Pym Particles technology can shrink people (as well as objects) and enlarge them back to their original sizes, it's rumored that Scott Lang will reach new heights (specifically about 15-20 feet tall) when he returns in Captain America: Civil War. And if true, which it likely is judging by Peyton Reed's sly response and the rumor's source, Giant-Man will certainly be visually unique for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Anyhow, watch Reed's full interview below!

Directed by Anthony & Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely, Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain. Starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Jeremy Renner, Don Cheadle, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd, Chadwick Boseman, Emily VanCamp, Daniel Brühl, Frank Grillo, William Hurt, and Martin Freeman, Captain America: Civil War is set for release on May 6, 2016.

I'm curious if they scrapped the idea of having a giant Ultron in AoU so that Giant-Man would feel fresh and unique. Interesting.

In Civil War you do not want to be the character who can grow.
Those characters have the annoying tendency to die.

LOL, and Ant-man/Giant man is gonna do what against Thanos exactly? Just looking at the big picture. After AOU the team Cap has now, with new additions coming (Spidey, BP, Dr. Strange) are going to get wrecked, and "Ant-man" is gonna be among the first to go. Should be good for a laugh

The guy is a true nerd, still can't believe El Mayimbe made that douchey comment about how DC directors could beat up Marvel directors, not classy at all, and Reed's response was perfect.

@Cyndaquilfan123 True, but I vaguely remember that in the climax in Sokovia, Whedon was going to have Ultron become supersized. I think it was supposed to be this scene, though they replaced it with him floating in the air and summoning all his drones instead.

sauronsbane- where are you getting this info ive watched pretty much every interview with whedon about AOU and i dont recall a single mention of a giant ultron.

I think thay planted that idea with the ending of the movie.
SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!

when Scott goes sub-atomic he uses one of the enlarger disks to return to normal size. so it would be like "what if I tinker with the regulator WHILE I'm normal size?", and BOOM, Giant-Man.

@kinghulk Honestly I'm only going by memory here, I couldn't even tell you where I got the idea from. I could be way off base, of course, but I feel like there was an article or something about that in the months before AoU was released.

@KurtWagner1225 Yeah I actually distinctly remember that toy, but I feel like there was another article that went further into detail about it.

Ah well you're probably right, maybe it was just that haha.

@PeterParker1991

Thanos won't be the only bad guy and Ant's ability to go small may actually be more useful than large. Imagine going into an infinity stone and changing it somehow. Stark said there seemed to be a computer at its core when working with the stone he had.

I'd just as rather keep Ant-man only shrinking but going giant can be a lot of fun.
