After being in development for many years due to minor setbacks, the Assassin's Creed movie is finally moving forward and is all set to commence principal photography on Monday, August 31. And now Yahoo has even released our first look at the big-screen video game adaptation which features leading man Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, an original character. Instead of retelling stories from the games, the film will apparently bring all new characters to that world, per Yahoo:

Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) discovers he is a descendant of the secret Assassins society through unlocked genetic memories that allow him to relive the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. After gaining incredible knowledge and skills he’s poised to take on the oppressive Knights Templar in the present day.

Directed by Justin Kurzel, Assassin's Creed stars Michael Fassbender, Marion Cotillard, Ariane Labed, and Michael Kenneth Williams, and is scheduled to be released on December 21, 2016.

I don't get it..? Not a huge fan of these games but it looks really dope. I thought it was CGI/Animated at first but it's probably just the quality.

@Pasto He's a new character Pasto, as for white robe. The best Assassin's Creed character, Ezio, wore a similar one.

I like the way he looks. I've only played Assassin's Creed 2, but I'm excited to see how the series does. I believe Ubisoft went the Marvel route and created their own studio to do films on their own properties.

@yonny616

There is actually an uncanny amount of evidence planted in Ubisoft's big IP's that seem to indicate they exist within a shared game universe

Eh why are they putting it in present day. The present day stuff was definitely the worst part of the Assassin games. He does look amazing though in the robes too bad that will be nothing more then training montages and shit.

As fantastic as this appears to be, and sounds . . . I have a feeling this film is about 5 years late--a fact that will be reflected in its earnings, but who knows!

I've only played AC2 and completed it at 100% (never again, those f*cking feathers can go f*ck themselves), but I really loved it and I'm looking forward to this, it COULD be the first truly great videogame movie (I hope Warcraft comes out at least decent).
