DEADPOOL Will Explore 'Colossus' "Deeper" Than The X-MEN Movies Says MoCap Performer

"Nobody from the comic book universe is safe" from Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool, according to Colossus actor Andre Tricoteux, who says the Merc with a Mouth will take some "shocking" r-rated digs at everyone.

The Russian mutant known as Colossus, or Piotr Rasputin, has been portrayed by Daniel Cudmore in three X-Men movies over the course of twelve years, but the character will be played by someone new when he mutates into his metallic form next year in Deadpool. While promoting his recurring role on iZombie, Russian actor and stunt performer Andre Tricoteux talked for the first time about portraying Colossus opposite Ryan Reynolds, how his version of the mutant will compare to the previous, and why people will be shocked by some of the R-rated dialogue, among other things.

"The Colossus you're going to see in Deadpool is very true to the original character in the comic book," said Tricoteux during a Tech Times Q&A. "[Director] Tim Miller had a really clear vision, and the Deadpool people had a really clear vision of what they wanted. They wanted Colossus to be very traditional to the original story." When asked if we'll dive deeper into the character than we have in the X-Men movies, Andre replied, "Yeah, I think you're going to get to see more of who Colossus is." He continued, "Like I said, we kept him really traditional to the comic book. So yes, I think people will get a better sense of who he is. But I think there's still a lot more to be told about him. Colossus has been around in the comics since the '70s, so I mean, I think you could do your own movie on him. Yeah, you're going to get to see a little bit more of who he is and kind of his outlook on the world." Does this mean Tricoteux put on his Russian accent in character? "Well, like I said, I can't give too much away. We kept it very traditional to the comic books. Actually, we kept it exactly like the comics, so you could be able to derive your own conclusion from that."

"There's a lot of comedy in it. There's a lot of great action. It is definitely R-rated," Tricoteux told uInterview in a separate interview. "It is definitely geared towards adults…. I think people are going to be blown away, and there’s gonna be some shocking moments. Some of the stuff that is said will shock people. Deadpool takes a run at everyone. Nobody is safe. Nobody in the comic book universe, nobody popular cultural-wise is safe right now." Andre then talked about the Deadpool cast, and offered nothing but praise for Ryan Reynolds. "This is one of the best teams I've ever worked with," he said. "Ryan Reynolds is just... he's just a phenomenal talent, and he really knocked this one out of the park. People are gonna love his performance, and he's just super talented. He's a smart guy, he's great with his fellow actors. He was a riot to work with. It was just, you know, he kept us in stitches all the time. Ed Skrein is great, just a true gentleman. Gina Carano is one of my favorite people of all time, and I love working with Gina, and she's just fantastic. Brianna is new, but very mature for her age, and she just did a fantastic job. "

Andre Tricoteux continued, now offering praise for Deadpool director Tim Miller. "So like the whole team was just, was really good. I know this is Tim's first big feature, but you know he's a smart guy, and he had a really clear vision of what he wanted to do. And he surrounded himself with really good department heads so, I mean, the crew is fantastic. It was just a blast. It was just a true pleasure to work on this movie." Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, Deadpool tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life. Directed by Tim Miller, while starring Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson), Morena Baccarin (Vanessa Carlysle), T.J. Miller (Weasel), with Ed Skrein, and Brianna Hildebrand (Ellie Phimister), the much-hyped Deadpool is scheduled to open in theaters on February 12, 2016.

Apparently, they offered Cudmore the role and he turned it down when found out it was all mocap. I wonder if that's what made them decide to make this a different version of Colossus. But then again, FOX has never been too concerned with continuity.

I am really glad to hear that. The Xmen movies are pretty weak in terms of characterization.

Won't be hard too hard to top the previous Colossus, I mean the dude barley had any dialogue. Damn stoked for this movie.

I'm looking forward to this. It's meta theme should be a nice break from all the "grounded" trying-to-be-too-serious CBMs but also a great start to the big year. This will definitely get me hyped for the rest of the movies coming out next year.

Can we take a moment to appreciate not just Deadpool, but Colossus and how perfect he looks in this movie.

@NightsKing,

I don't know how reliable this is, but it claims that multiple parties confirmed that Cudmore was offered. I find it kind of weird that they would go so different with this Colossus in this movie if they were offering Cudmore originally. But it's more proof that FOX makes one movie at a time with no concern on how anything effects the big picture.

Totally fine with me, there's so many beautiful cultural/characterized features about Colossus that makes him a very memorable character.

You wouldn't need to do much to do much to go 'deeper' than the other films. Hopefully this leads to a greater focus on the larger X-group, and not just the fab 5 (Xavier, Maggy, Wolverine, Raven and Beast).

Since the rumor is that Fox has already greenlit a Deadpool sequel I'm hoping it'll be a Deadpool & Cable movie.

If collosus has even 2 lines of dialogue in deadpool they would have already explored him more than the x-men movies.
