Kevin Feige Confirms DOCTOR STRANGE Will Show The Dark Dimension
Mads Mikkelsen’s villainous role in Doctor Strange may be a mystery no more now that Marvel Studios President of Production Kevin Feige has confirmed at least one of the "colorful" alternate dimensions that we’ll get to see in the forthcoming movie. Check it out!
In the latest issue of Empire magazine, Kevin Feige talks more about getting Benedict Cumberbatch to lead the Doctor Strange movie and finally bringing the Sorcerer Supreme to the big-screen. In addition, the Marvel Studios President also confirms one of the alternate realms that we’ll see in the Scott Derrickson-directed adaptation which might indicate other characters that will appear.
Though one might compare Doctor Strange’s origins story to Iron Man’s, in terms of the characters being arrogant and getting into an accident that helps them to become superheroes, Kevin Feige reassured that the Sorcerer Supreme’s upcoming cinematic debut “couldn't be any more different than any of the films that have come before it” in the ever-growing cinematic universe. “There are more things that lurk in shadows in this movie, perhaps, than our other movies,” added Feige, referring to interdimensional beings from which only Doctor Strange can protect humanity. While then suggesting that the tone of Doctor Strange won’t be Marvel’s darkest, even with vet horror director Scott Derrickson at the helm, Kevin Feige revealed one alternate dimension that we’ll see. “We see glimpses of something called the Dark Dimension,” he said. “But if you were to open a Doctor Strange comic drawn by Steve Ditko, you would see the Dark Dimension is, in fact, very colorful in an extremely psychedelic way. Those are the things we're not shying away from.”
Given the Dark Dimension is where the supervillain siblings Dormammu and Umar were both banished to in the comics with the former later becoming ruler, could that be who Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen is playing? And could Umar be the character played by actress Amy Landecker? Maybe not, especially considering Feige’s description of Mikkelsen’s sorcerous role, and also the fact that the producer said we’ll only get “glimpses” of the realm. However, there are several other mystical characters tied to the Dark Dimension like Dormammu’s niece Clea, so what do you think?
Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange so far stars Benedict Cumberbatch (Stephen Strange), Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Baron Mordo), Amy Landecker, Scott Adkins, Michael Stuhlbarg (Nicodemus West), with Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One) and Mads Mikklesen, and the long-awaited movie is currently scheduled to open in theaters on November 4, 2016.
