Hit the jump and check out an awesome new Suicide Squad image and an interview with Ben Affleck, who talks about his cameo in the movie, as well as new quotes from Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder, who talks extensively about the DC Extended Universe.
As if you don’t know already know, next week will see the broadcast premiere of THE CW’s special DC Films Presents: Dawn of the Justice League which boasts new footage from Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad, as well as a “sneak peek” at the Wonder Woman movie. However, before we get those goodies, USA Today has revealed its own special sneak peek at the DC Extended Universe.
In addition to a new Suicide Squad still (above) which shows Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie), Katana (Karen Fukuhara), Captain Boomerang (Jai Courtney), Killer Croc (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), and Rick Flag (Joel Kinnaman) with Deadshot (Will Smith), the newspaper has also revealed some intriguing new quotes from Dawn of Justice director Zack Snyder, who seemingly confirms we’ll see Justice League's Aquaman, Cyborg, and the Flash alongisdeThe Trinity in Batman v Superman.
“I love Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman, but having Flash and Aquaman and Cyborg and to see them all standing together, it’s a pretty dorky and cool experience for me,” said Zack Snyder of introducing those aforementioned leaguers in Batman v Superman. “Basically every one of those characters has a logo that you would recognize without them standing there, and that’s a hard thing to achieve in this pop-culture world. We have history to draw on, but we also have these new frontiers to forge.” The director/producer later reassured that Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad are only “the cornerstone of the beginning” and he also explained how the DC Extended Universe will set itself apart from the MCU and the other superhero franchises . “It’s our belief and our goal to honor the legacy of the studio with a batch of films that speaks to that world,” said Snyder, before adding that the DCEU will embrace Warner Bros' “pedigree of epicness.”
Furthermore, USA Today also spoke to Suicide Squad helmer David Ayer, who assures he understands the importance of doing these characters right. “For me, it’s a little more than just dropping a cut scene in the end credits to link projects,” he said, seemingly referring to the MCU. “You really have to be thinking three movies downrange and how today’s movie will impact more later-cycle projects.” About his installment to the DCEU, Ayer says, “We all need good guys and everything — yay, good guys — but at the end of the day, they’re kinda boring. They’re always going to do the right thing. When you’re dealing with the baddies, it’s easy to get ahead of the audience and invert expectations.” About Jared Leto, Ayer said, “He’s the king of Planet Joker.”
David Ayer also revealed that the days on which he filmed the Batman's scene(s) in Suicide Squad were some of his favorite. “We made him fight,” said David Aye of Ben Affleck. “He’s awesome (as Batman). ... You really sense that but for the grace of God he himself would be doing some really foul stuff out in the world.” Speaking of the Caped Crusader, USA Today also talked with Affleck about his appearance in the supervillain flick and how he's “bound by nondisclosure clauses a mile long.” He said, “It felt like I have such a cool cousin. This thing that is so awesome is somehow related to me, and that was really exciting because it started to feel like a constellation of things, and I’ve never had that feeling.” Make the jump to USA Today for more!
