Why Chris Evans Could Make a Great Captain America

Why Chris Evans Could Make a Great Captain America

Here are some reasons why I think Fantastic Four's Chris Evans should be Captain America. It isn't all that great, but it's some things I need to throw out there. Check it Out

Even before Hollywood Deadline reported that Chris Evans was being considered for Captain America, I was all for It. But now that Marvel has finally gained some sense and considered the guy, Hes my choice now on.

For those who are against him as Cap, because he "WAS" the Human Torch, that franchise is being rebooted, with new actors. Him being Human Torch in "The Fantastic Four" actually helps prove that hes Capable of being Captain America.

From Fantastic Four...

  • He knows what it's like being apart of a team, which could obviously work in First Avenger & The Avengers. Instead of Reed, Thing, & Sue, he'll have Tony, Thor, Hulk, and Natasha, ect.

  • His character took actions without being commanded, easily separates from the F4 team, and in Captain America & Avengers, that separation would label him as the leader, which is who Steve Rogers is.

  • Hes familiar with the tight costumes & their imagery, and from what Director, Joe Johnston described, Captain America's costume may be a more substantial

  • Including some of his recent films, he knows the scope of a SuperHero film.

  • Quoting critics on F4, "Chris Evans nearly stole the show with his energetic, unfettered performance. Basically he does what he believes in.

That says it all. And the fact that there is another Human Torch in the comics of the Captain America era, has some say in this.

Some things not that important, but could contribute

  • 6'(1.83 m)

  • Blue eyed

  • Hes played a teenager multiple times, and it seems that where they want to start off with Steve Rogers being a late teen, then of course ages being that hes frozen 4 or 5 years after becoming Captain America.

  • He'll be 29 years old, when filming begins.

  • Obviously has the look

  • Personal hobbies include Drawing, basketball and working out, buffing up for any role required

  • He could be a great counterpoint to Robert Downey Jr, with a less humerus side.
Since that seems to be a factor needed by some folks.

  • He has worked with Scarlett Johansson before, romantically in a film.

  • "He’d be able to stand alongside the actors already in place for The Avengers, and not end up looking like a lost little boy."

    Personal Quotes

"If you want to be around in 10 years you've got to do something to differentiate yourself from the pack."

"I just have to get my name out there. Once it's out there, it's up to me to captain the ship to where I want to go."

I know this isn't as great as some other great user's "Why ___ Should Be Captain America" articles, but just thought I'd throw out some things.

MarvelFreshman: Great write up. I agree, I've thought Evans would be great in the role for quite a while. I actually think Vogel would be great also. Surely these are better choices than we had a couple of days ago.

Check out my Cap article in Editorials and let me know what you think.

I remember when Ryan Reynolds was cast as Green Lantern, a lot of people where not happy because he was playing 2 superheroes. So the question is aren't you guys tired of Chris Evans always appearing in comic book movies:

    -Fantastic Four
    -Fantastic Four 2
    -Push
    -The Losers
    -Scott Pilgrim vs The World

and some people actually want him to be cap, it means he will end up playing a part in 14 comic book movies (9 Cap appearances).

I like the idea. I've always liked him as an actor and was giddy when I saw his name show up for this role! I like this final three much better than "the list" we saw.

@char- 9 films is just an option, doesn't mean they will make that many. It's not unusual for studios to sign for multiple films, regardless of whether there are sequels or a series planned.

Like Ecksmanfan said, I Highly doubt there will be no more than three films involving Captain America alone, and with The Avengers, maybe two films.

@BAMF: I cringed at the title, but after reading it, I'm down. He's definitely better than any of the other suggested actors. They should definitely pay him more than 300K for this movie though. Offering 300K for the Star Spangled Avenger makes it look like Marvel thinks Cap is a joke.

While I don't disagree in that he would make a good Cap. My vote goes to Wilson Bethel out of the actors supposedly still left in the running.

I'd love to see Evans in the role, not because he'd be great in it, but because of the straight up irony of having loud mouth Johnny Storm at stoic soldier Steve Rogers. It's brilliant.

If anyone doubts Evans' ability to act dramatically, see Sunshine. Didn't crack one joke the entire movie, and was absolutely believable from start to finish.

I'd go with Evans first, then Hedlund, then (a distant 3rd choice) Vogel.

Very good article MF! Although Jensen Ackles and Ryan McPartlin remain up there as my top choices for Captain America, Evans is definitely up there with him - he's a great actor and was probably one of the only thing a lot of comic book fans and critics liked about the awful FF movies! If he were Cap, I have a feeling he'd do an amazing job...plus, he's 100x better as a choice than Hedlund and Vogel IMO! :P

You know I could deal with Evans. I like the guy. I was scared shitless when Krasinski's name started being seriously thrown out there, but Chris fits. He comes off as an all American kid, cocky, self assured, but honest, and good intentioned.

And he has what I call the "Quaterback Look." The really good looking guy that leads the team to victory that you think will be a total douche until you talk to the guy and realize he is pretty cool. Ryan Reynolds has that same quality... only Canadian, so what would that be? "The Goalie Look,""Hockey Captain Look," I'm from Georgia folks, I know nothing of Hockey.

Baking Soda...forgot about him (or her, Baking Soda's real gender is ambiguous). That guy/girl would be better than Crawford at least, but Crawford's out of the running, so it's still a no to Armie, Amy, whatever the f*ck it is, Hammer.

    I'm Team Evandlund :)

i support evans in this. i wouldn't bet on him but he deserves another chance after FF got panned. it wasn't his fault and everyone knows it. i've been a fan of this guy ever since he had me laughing my ass of in "Not Another Tenn Movie"

i think he would be great!

@Tyler- Watched Sunshine tonight. While the movie wasn't fantastic (too much of a clone of Event Horizon for my liking), Evans was pretty good. It shows that he's able to take on a more serious role and do a pretty good job at it.

I'm liking this idea more and more. Hedlund would be my second choice.

I really like the six guys we're left with now:

    JENSEN ACKLES
    Mike Vogel
    Chris Evans
    Ryan McPartlin
    Chris Pine
    Garrett Hedlund (Bucky/Winter Soldier)

    In that exact order :)

Evans could do this. He was good in sunshine and in street kings. Everybody else seems too pretty. Most of the people fighting in WWII would have been caps age or younger, so young is ok, but you have to add some battle grizzle to the character somehow. The quickest way to do that is avoid a tan on the character. Get away from the tanned pretty boy...cap doesn't care about that stuff.

    Shaman - 3/11/2010, 9:05 AM
YouneedaHero- That is a good point. I also agree, Evans can deffinitely pull it off.

i can picture Evans holding his own along side jackson and downey - no doubt the two most powerful on-screen presences.

something i can't say for the other choices. but thats just in my own mind so who knows.
    Shaman
    Shaman - 3/11/2010, 9:57 AM
OdinsBeard- True, Evans does have the experience to stand on his own. But then again, IMO it's only because he's had his shot to shine on the big screen already. Had he only been on the CW with the same acting range, i doubt people would agree as much.

He would not be my 1st choice (or 3rd even), but I think he could do it. He is at least better than some of the other names I've been hearing. More importantly, can we have more Stacy Keibler pics? Please?

After what I saw of him in "Sunshine" I would be happy to see him in this role. We already knew he was buff and capable of action, Sunshine showed his acting chops to be just as good if not better!
