Chris Evans on Sleepless Nights accepting "Captain America"

Chris Evans on Sleepless Nights accepting "Captain America"

In this interview with "Losers" actor, Chris Evans, he explains how big of a responsibility and decision of becoming Captain America.

Promoting his latest film, The Losers, ScreenStar caught up with actor Chris Evans. In the interview mainly about Losers, ScreenStar interviewer, Ian Spelling brings up his upcoming lead role of Steve Rogers in The First Avenger: Captain America.

How big a responsibility is it to take on that role, that project?

"It is a big responsibility. I'm a little scared, to be honest. I'd be lying if I said anything else, and I have no problem being honest about that. It's intimidating. It's a big responsibility and you want to do your best work. I'm not quite sure what else to say. It was a challenging process for me, trying to decide whether or not to do it. I came down on the side of going for it because I really think Marvel is doing some great things these days, the script is great and it's going to be a fun character to play. He's a wonderful character, just as a man, aside from the comic hero background. If it was just a story about the man, Steve Rogers, I'd be really interested. He's an incredibly noble, honest, selfless man, and those are qualities that I think people can aspire to and look up to."

Taking on this kind of mega-project can really change an actor's life…

"It was tricky saying yes. A couple of sleepless nights were involved. I'm going for it and I'm not looking back. I'm trying to just stay positive and focus on the fact that it could be a great thing. It really could be, it should be, and that's the way I'm looking at it."

Your schedule is full now with big-big films. How much time will you be able to devote to smaller projects, like The Loss Of A Teardrop Diamond?

"This was the next hurdle. This is obviously going to be a very time-consuming ordeal, not just with Captain America, but with The Avengers. They'll shoot back to back. The shoots are long. The press is very time-consuming. It's going to be very tricky. These are all the things I've had to try and weigh. But I said, "Well, if you do this, hopefully it will enable me to make whatever I'd like to make in the future." That's an opportunity you want. It's chess, really. Sometimes this one move isn't going to bring you everything you want, but five moves down the line it just may. So, again, it was pros and cons, and the pros won out."

How big Marvel is planning for this film to be, I hope Chris Evans is ready, because it seems that this film will be bigger than anything hes ever done. International cast, millions of background actors, and holding his own in The Avengers. Filming for The First Avenger begins around June 28th.

I hope it won't take its toll on him. We don't want another Heath Ledger moment. I wish him so much luck with this.

At least he understands how major and important of a film this really is for Marvel Studios and the future of all of their franchises.

i agree. it's good to know that he gets that this is a big deal. he also seems to get some of the great things about steve as a character
@marvelfreshman, don't know why, but something about that picture you chose makes me a little more confident in him

@Marvelfreshman: This is really refreshing to hear. With all of the "it's gonna be a fun shoot" stereotypical bull, it's good to hear him taking this seriously. It's amazing how cbm's have gone from being novel b-movies to formidable cinema. Great article MF.

I've been pretty skeptical of Evans ever since he was mentioned but it seems he really has a good Idea about the character and he really seems serious about it.

I think alot of the skepticism is due to him playing the Human Torch. He wasn't bad as Johnny Storm, it's just that the script and certain other actors were bad.

I'm starting to have hope....

..i can see how someone might not want him for that role, but i'm sure he'll do fine. i'm actually a little less confident in him than i was bale, jackman, downey, and reynolds.

Personally, I think he'll be great. Was he the best choice possible? Probably not. Is he a "bad" choice? Not at all IMO. At least he recognizes just how HUGE this role is, because we all know it is just that. He knows the responsibilities on his shoulders, and that makes me more confident in Evans' ability to nail this character.

@ LEEE: Every thing Tyler said is right on.

Any way this is great. Just wonderful!!! :)

It really sounds like he's taking this seriously AND it sounds like he knows something about Steve Roger's character and personality.

Good man! Excellent. What more could I even ask for?

And all these whiners and whingers and doubters and haters... you clowns will get over it.

bbbbb b b but he was Human Torch! WAAAAAAHHHHHHH! Grow UP! The FF movies blew ass! Get over it

Isn't this pretty much what any actor who takes on such an important role feels like lol? Weighing the pros and cons of it. There are pros for his career, I mean, look at Hugh Jackman and how popular he is now as a prime example. He came out of nowhere, and now he's in nominated films etc. lol. Chris needs this, I think everyone thinks of him as a joke, as in he can't be serious, and I can't wait for him to prove us all wrong. :)

Yeah, like Darth said, it's time to get over it folks. It's old news, and bitching about it won't change anything.
Evans is Cap now and it looks like he's gonna be taking it seriously, so hopefully it goes well for him. I think he'll be just fine.

i really think people should quit bitching about Evans, considering that he fits the part to a T and is a good actor...I don;t see what the problem is? Because he was the Human Torch? BIG DEAL....it was another Universe and a crappy one at that...Evans obviously understands that this is big role and that he needs to approach it in a certain way. Marvel wouldn't have picked him if they thought he would suck...he's gonna do a great job.

Agree completely with Tyler.

@BlackAirs87 - Ledger was playing a psycho. I'd worry more about a Viggo here - in fact that was the first thing I thought when I read the article, and hadn't even gotten to your comment.

@1chris2 - bah, you have to have SOME moments of levity. IM's a pretty serious character, would you change a moment of IM1?

@XmutantX - your words are marked, now mark these: when it turns out to be one of the best things Marvel's ever done, and you come back here and say "man that sucked", and everyone trashes on you, just don't be too surprized.

You have this guy just being amazingly honest here - he even says he's "scared". What actors ever admit that, what men even... Again I say, if anyone screws it up, it will most likely be Johnston.

@Tea - THAT GUY WAS THE BOYFRIEND IN UNCLE BUCK!!! lol -see you learn something new every day =P I just watched that a few months ago... ah good ole John Candy.

When I spoke of the Human Torch being in the movie, I was talking about the Original Human Torch. The android one that was part of the Invaders. I'm not talking any kind of smack, I just think that it's amusingly ironic.
