There has been plenty casting rumors with the latest being the absurd mention of Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Riddler. But nothing official, and now comes and "offhand" mention for the start-date for the Dark Knight's return.

In an article from Los Angeles Times, focused more on Christopher Nolan attending the Hero Complex Film Festival, LA Times Hero Complex blogger, Geoff Boucher mentions that he’ll be interviewing Nolan this weekend, and plans to asking him about Batman 3, including carelessly that the third movie...

"Starts shooting in March.”

While Christpher Nolan is being very modest of actually reclaiming director for the Dark Knight's return, production would be expected to begin in the early months of 2011, with a July 20, 2012 release.

I agree, no Riddler (or Jim Carrey). I'm okay with Penguin or Hush - if done as the Jim Lee storyline.

Why is Joseph Gordon-Levitt playing riddler absurd?
Dont get me wrong, he's not my first choice. But when I heard Heath Ledger was playing the joker I literally stood up and said 'WTF?!!?" Look how that turned out. If Nolan does choose him, I have absolute faith. I'll see what he does in inception before I start to worry.

lol LEEE wants Black Mak. What's his power? Macking?

Where can I get some? XD

OK so I have a serious question for you dudes.

Hypothetically.. Let's just suppose that they were to do a small, short scene with Levitt playing The Joker in which he is locked up in Arkham Asylum and Batman comes to question him.
Would you guys absolutely hate that? Would you think it was in poor taste? Of course I know they said no more Joker. I was just wondering what you guys thought of it all.

@Barakapool I have always wanted to see that since the end of TDK. The Joker is still alive and therefore should be questioned in the sequel.

JGL for the Joker
McLovin
McLovin - 6/11/2010, 6:55 AM
@ Barakapool - I have no issues with that. What happened to Ledger is unfortunate, but we all know it was not the character who died, but the actor who portrayed him on film. However none of this matters, nice Nolan has made it clear he is staying away from the character. Whether it is for respect for Heath or simply because he wants to introduce new villains, we may never know. Never the less, if for some reason he was to have a change of heart, Levitt is the only man for the job and I'm sure audiences and CBGeeks alike would embrace him.

@ Stevilnyc & McLovin: Cool!
But I unsderstand that there's a lot of people that don't feel that way.

It'll never happen I guess, but we can dream right?

@Barakapool - 100% for it, or for keeping Joker off camera and using just a voice or something.

For the main villain I am on the Javier Bardem as Bane bandwagon. Or that AWESOME idea Odinsbeard and I were talking about where you cast a bunch of great actors as suspects and don't reveal which one is actually the Riddler till the end.

"the latest being the absurd mention of Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Riddler." Well put ... I mean I have to admit I felt that way about Heath when I heard his casting... but I can't imagine JGL AT ALL.

I'll be the first in line, son! Nolan makes QUALITY mf'n films!

That Javier Bardem dude sure makes a good villian.

Hey, first time ever commenting. If you were going to re cast the Joker how come no considered Giovanni Ribisi. Definitely has the acting chops to pull it off.

rolanddeschain - 6/11/2010, 7:50 AM
leee777@ they should have all 3 villains in part3, they all would fill their own individual roles, so it wouldn't be like he's fighting too many guys at the same time, the riddler wouldn't fight batman, anyway, he knows better...lol

J.G.Levitt as RIDDLER!!!!!
StevilNYC
StevilNYC - 6/11/2010, 8:38 AM
Batman will have to deal with all of Gotham being against him and being hunted by the police. There's his antagonist right there. We know he'll have Wayne Manor restored "brick for brick" with the bat-cave finally introduced. What good will a bat-cave be if he can't use it to detect intricate crimes? I believe that the Riddler would be the perfect villain to introduce to the audience. The Riddler would present Batman with clues to his crimes and we'll see Batman in the cave doing what he does best...

However, I strongly feel that Joker needs a cameo. Not the Batman and Robin cameo when we saw the Riddler and Two Face's clothes!

i hope there is no riddler... too similar to the joker. bring in a character from left field like Bane or Clayface or Killer Croc... or a female villain this time like Catwoman, Poison Ivy or do the natural thing and have Harley come next after the Joker.
