RUMOR: The Man Of Steel Auditions Underway With Jonathan Nolan Directing

The last we heard from The Man Of Steel was that Chris Columbus would be directing, and fortunately that rumor was debunked. And we know that The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan will be producing the project, with an "exciting" story ready for development.

Apparently GeekTyrant has received info on whose directing the Superman reboot, and one of the men who auditioned.

"According to our sources that reside on the WB studio lot that have informed us that Christopher Nolan's brother Jonathan is currently the unannounced director of the Superman reboot film. Word on the lot is that he is attached to direct the film and has been on the studio lot a lot these days working on pre-development stuff."

With this project giving Jonathan Nolan's first seat in the director's chair, GeekTyrant includes that "it was said at the time that a key reason behind Chris Nolan's producing role is to help out his brother, teaching & guiding him along the way.

GT also received word from the same sources that auditions for the "Clark Kent" role are currently taking place. And that NBC TV show Chuck star, Zachery Levi is one of many who have already auditioned.

Production on The Man Of Steel should begin in time for a Christmas 2012 release. And hopefully some confirmation, or any unknown info on the project would be revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con, but it's highly doubted.

Though it sounds plausible, you can obviously treat this has a rumor for now. But what are thoughts on Jonathan Nolan directing and Zachery playing The Last Son of Krypton?

Levi? No way. Jonah Nolan? Maybe, who knows how well he can direct. A lot of the directors that would probably be good for Man of Steel are booked up, unfortunately, like Abrams, Vaughn, etc.

So it's gonna be like the original Star Wars trilogy where Lucas hired unknowns to direct his movies, while he "guided" them.

I hope things works out for the best if this is true.

Levi wouldn't be a terrible Superman, but I think there are at least ten better choices.

I hope he has the directorial skills of his brother, and if not hope Cristopher guide him damn well.
I still think that James Mctiegue was a good choice to direct The Man of Steel.

@cchriswake13, I can believe he auditioned.Remember back when he had to turn down Fandral, he said he really wanted to play a superhero?He may not get it, but I'm sure he would have jumped at the opportunity to audition.

@metropolisman, I'm not sure how old you are, but not everyone sees a 30 year old as a kid.Anyway, they are trying to build franchises around these characters, they're not going to get a 40 year old actor for their first movie.Hell, they're not going to even get a 35 year old.

Christian Bale was 29 when he was cast as Batman and Ryan Reynolds was 32 when he was cast(though he looks younger).I think mid 20s to very early 30s will be the target age when casting their heroes.Wonder Woman will probably be early to late 20s.

As much as I like Zachary Levi in Chuck, he is not Superman. Even if he beefs up significantly, I don't think he has the look. We need an actor who has an imposing physical stature.

I don't like Levi as Superman and now I'm really starting to worry about Kid Nolan's directing abilities. I mean the guy has never directed a movie, let alone a huge blockbuster, and judging from his age he probably hasn't been in the movie industry that long, so how the hell is he gonna manage this film.

I don't know guys, something about this screams bullshit to me. Jonathan Nolan is a great writer, but this is a major tentpole film... I have no doubt they'd let him write it, but I don't think they'd give it to a first time director even if his big bro will be looking over his shoulder the whole time. And I simply cannot see the Nolans wasting time screen testing [frick]ing Chuck. I could be wrong, but my official bullshit-O-meter is ringing loud on this one.

FOR THE RECORD: Brandon Routh weighed 215 lbs. for "Superman Returns" and is 6'3". Christopher Reeve, in comparison, was 6'4" and 220, so Routh is right there, and any naysayers can SHUT IT.

Additionally, the film was made for $200 mil and made almost $400 mil, so no, not a failure when you double your money. In the U.S., the film was the 6th highest grossing film of 2006 and in worldwide totals, it was the 9th highest. Whatever it might have lacked, in regard to action, was not Routh's fault and a new movie need not cast a new actor. People will understand that it will be a different story altogether. The man did a great job as both Clark and Superman. Too much recasting/rebooting is rampant and continuity is becoming a complete and utter FARCE.

They can audition all they want, but no one will come close to Routh. If the Nolans have any balls, they'd seriously consider Routh for the role and get him a script that would kick some arse and make everyone happy.

I didn't think it was Routh's fault in SR until I watched him act on Chuck. It then confirmed to me that he is a stiff and blah actor regardless of direction. 6'3" and 215? I am not sure if I believe that. That's kind of light. I am 6'1" and 220 and Routh appears larger in frame than me, but maybe not. WB is not bringing back Routh, so it is pretty much a moot point to keep bringing up his name, though some want to hold on to the hope they would do it.

They need to find a relatively unknown or someone known who is NOT wimpy or boyish looking *cough* Bomer & Cavill*cough*. According to inside WB sources, I don't think I will need to sweat worrying about either of those two getting the part.

I can see Levi as someone like Ray Palmer or Blue Beetle, but Superman? Hell to the naw. But it is just a rumor, so it's all good.
