Kiefer Sutherland Also Pursued For "The Thing" In Fantastic Four Reboot?

The folks at Twentieth Century Fox are apparently hard at work in assembling a cast & director for the summer 2012 release of the Fantastic Four reboot. And while it was reported here earlier today that multi-talented Bruce Willis was pursued by the studio to lend a voice for the humble Ben Grimm (The Thing), Screenrant now reports...

Twentieth Century Fox is pursuing Kiefer Sutherland to voice The Thing in the next Fantastic Four film.

Kiefer Sutherland, Canadian actor, producer and director, is an Emmy Award & Golden Globe award-winner. And is best known for his portrayal of Jack Bauer on the Fox thriller drama series 24. As of 2008, Sutherland has appeared in more than 70 films, most notably The Lost Boys, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, A Few Good Men, Flatliners, Young Guns, The Vanishing, The Three Musketeers, Eye for an Eye, Dark City, To End All Wars and A Time To Kill, The Sentinel and Mirrors.

While it was learned at last month's San Diego Comic-Con, that The Thing would be completely CGI, the only requirement of an actual actor is reportedly in the opening credits and their voice used throughout the remaining of the film. So like Bruce Willis, Sutherland is quite an expensive choice, even at the lend of a voice. But evidently, it's quite early for final decisions, and both actors are only being considered; nothing official.

As for other speculations, FOX is considering Joe Carnahan, David Yates, and James McTeigue for the directors chair. And perusing Adrien Brody (Mr. Fantastic), Alice Eve(Invisible Woman), and Kevin Pennington(Human Torch) for the actors behind the "Fantastic Four" team.

So what do you think of Kiefer Sutherland voicing Ben Grimm in the reboot, and the studio possibly starting filming as soon as next spring?

wouldn't he have to shave his head for the opening scene. Still think Willis is the better choice. Funny how both Kiefer and Michael Chiklis are actors on FOX shows

@Ironbat95
Ben Grimm isn't bald. Yeah Willis is a better choice IMO.

Both actors are too old for the human character, in my opinion.I think Bruce Willis is more adept at comedy that Sutherland, which is good for Ben.But, I thing Sutherland's gravelly voice is better suited for The Thing.I don't think Willis has the right voice at all.

Jack Bauer would be quite good as well. Gotta say, I'm liking what I'm hearing so far about this movie.

I can see Sutherland getting this, as he is already in the Fox camp.

I really want this film to do well cus I love F4 but the films suck. This one actually looks like it's gonna redeem the franchise.

@Tyler- Agreed. If these rumors we're hear actually pan out, then this film could be a great surprise. 2012 is shaping up to be an epic year for film.

FOX will still screw this up! I guarantee it. The suit's hands are already in the pot.

With Brody & Sutherland in this, I really can't see Alice Eve or Kevin Pennington working out.

"If they really want to make the fans happy then just sell the rights to Marvel already."
That would be a dream come true. But its just that, a dream. THere is way to much money to be made from this franchise. Would be wise is to give creative control back and maintain a vested interest in somehow without being involved. I really am not sure what that would entail, but they could stretch it out very far monetarily if they got out of Marvel's way. Perhaps then, Marvel could incorporate FF4 into their Marvel movieverse.

What's going on with Keither Sutherland's ears in that photo?
Looks like his earlobes are attached to his head.
It reminds me of the gills Kevin Costner had in Waterworld.

There are so many good options for this part. Willis and Sutherland would both work, so would Gandolfini and Will Arnett in my opinion. Fingers crossed, FF should be a flagship franchise if they'd just get it right.

i definitely like this
it's not like Ben Grimm would be in the human form for very long during these movies, so i dig it

Bruce Willis gets my vote. He can pull off a more believable New York dialect. Regardless of whoever is chosen, their voice will be modified for "The Thing."

Fantasy cast for the new "FF" movie:

1) Billy Crudup (Reed Richards)
2) Charlize Theron (Sue Richards)
3) Ryan Gossling (Johnny Storm)
4) CGI Thing voiced by Bruce Willis

IMHO the ages and skill of these actors would make for a more mature, edgy, and credible "FF" team. Any opinions?

This is a little more believable than the Willis rumour especially because of Sutherland's long term relationship with Fox (24) and the fact he's become well known for having a pretty iconic voice. However, even with added computer trickery, I dont think he's right for the voice of Ben Grimm!

However, I am a big fan of his and if there's one comic book role I'd like to see him take on, it would have to be Balder! :)

cgrass5150- why go for old actors for every role?
ManThing

Yeah he would make a decent Balder at that. But sadly that's never going to happen.

I get the feeling that Balder The Brave isn't going to figure into the Thor movie very prominently. I don't think we have heard one word about him. That sucks.

So is it showing how they got their powers or do they just have their powers in the film because that would be kind of stupid

AlexDeLarge666 @ Yeah man! ; )

Hey I really like CLANCY too for the voice, though this is FOX, how much do you all bet we'll see BEN GRIMM again and even DOOM's face for that matter! : (

JUGG @ Ya never know!

MrAnonymous @ Lets hope for FOX's sake this is a REBOOT CONTINUATION coz if its not, it is pretty [frick]ing stupid, your absolutely right!

We need this like THE INCREDIBLE HULK and have flashbacks for the origin right at the start!

Huge Kiefer fan and a huge 24 fan (can't wait for that movie) but I'm not sure if he is right for this part. Would love to see him try it but I have to lean towards Bruce for this one if it is between these two actors.

@ Knight Gambit Kiefer is Canadian
