Jon Hamm 'Aged Out' of Superman Role!

In a new video interview with Mad Men actor Jon Hamm, he bascially expresses that he doesn't want the lead role in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot. Check it out!

Chatting recently with MTV at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards, Mad Men actor Jon Hamm, who've been longly treasured for the lead role in Warner Bros. Zack Snyder-directed Superman, The Man of Steel, now basically rules himself out as a candidate; essentially due to his age.

"I talked to Zack [Snyder] quite a bit," Hamm told MTV News about his "Sucker Punch" director. "We had some looping and some reshoots and stuff to do on 'Sucker Punch.' But no, I think that's a young man's game now. I think I've been aged out of that one by now, but that's fine with me. There are plenty of other people available to put on tights."

Commencing production in August, expected to last a full year, Superman, The Man Of Steel will reportedly be released in Mid-December 2012 (14th – 21st).

As obvious as it was to me....he simply does NOT want to be Superman and I'm glad.

yeah clearly he doesnt want the role otherwise he would have taken it already, I mean he is in Synder's good book by now it would probably be easy for him to get it if he wanted it.

I think Hamm would be better than most. I hope, that they don't go too young or too small. I think that has happened waaayyy too much lately!
There are some casting choices that the actors were almost born to play, like Pearlman/Hellboy, or Stewart/Professor X, and I hope that they take their time casting and do it right like those examples.

yeah................ROUTH!!!!

He did a nice Clark Kent. But, personally, I most appreciate the Alex Ross style. Someone who encapsulates the nobility and power that IS Superman. My two bits.
As far as age is concerned, "Aged Out" is a Cop Out! Too many movie comic book character actors have been cast by Hollywood Marketeers to be in between teen years and early twenties. That's ok for certain characters like particular X-Men who WERE jeuvies if you will, but, let's have some grown-ups for pete's sake;)

Alvahnomicron - 1/14/2011, 11:03 PM
Yeah; it seems less and less that they're gonna go with a Mature Supes. We'll have somebody in their mid twenties. Bummer that grownups can't be played by grownups anymore.

bummer i thought he would have made a great superman. i just hope whoever they cast doesnt look like hes is his twenties

Guys remember that the casting is officially going to be in the 28 to 32 year old range anyway.
GiganteRed
GiganteRed - 1/14/2011, 11:25 PM
That casting range is a little more promising I think, as long as they can play mature. Remember actors like Harrison Ford as Han Solo and other heroic characters which were prevalent not too long ago, were not the immature whelps that we see so often today.
And let's see some "Super Heroes" with a powerful build already. At least Chris Evans bulked up some for Cap. That's ONE of the reasons we are amazed my superheroes, in addition to their acts of courage and nobility.

Pine DOES have some heroic facial aspects, but, I think he's probably better as another character, maybe Hank Pym or someone...not sure.
By the way does anybody else think that Ryan Reynolds would have been the PERFECT Flash instead of Green Lantern? Actually I kind of preferred Nathan Fillion (from the Fan Made Green Lantern Trailer) as a better choice incidentally.

@BaneKill- I don't really care if Hamm doesn't get the role anymore. I don't care who gets it at this point, just so long as it aint Routh. He had his shot and sucked at it, so now it's time to move on. I just hope they get a good actor for the part this time.

I still think Jon Hamm has the facial-features of an aged Superman with a chip on his shoulder meaning- HE DON'T TAKE ANYMORE SHIT FROM PEOPLE. That was kind of the Superman film I hoped for...not another origin film, but just taking off on a story of an older Superman who is tougher and actually FIGHTS...yep a film where he'd actually throw a punch...lmao what a concept for a Superman film.

I felt Hamm would've been perfect for it. But ah well. I'm just happy Routh is out.

I have no further desire to debate with you on the subject of Routh anymore...I am only responding to the comment you directed at me which is strange since I haven't even been very active on CBM for the past few weeks...??

Just saying.

@BruceWayneNewton- Your boy routh is gone. WB wants to make a "new star" out of the actor for the Superman reboot. "new star" implies they are RECASTING!!! =)

Thank god.

I never really knew who Jon Hamm was until people talked about him on here.A bunch of people said he should play Supes,I said no at first. But then I thought about it,if we get an older Superman maybe we wouldn't have another origin story.Well guess what..were probably getting another origin story.Yay f'g Yay.I was hoping they would follow the formula of Tim Burton's Batman storywise,as in he was already older & established as his persona, and the origin in that movie was only a couple of minutes long.At least maybe we would have finally got a Superman in his older years fighting some actual villians like Brainiac,Doomsday or Darkseid.Probably not now,he will be some young dumba$$ kid.Now I'm pi$$ed!!!

I never really could picture Jon Hamm as Superman but as Batman or The Punisher I could really get behind that. Hamm is just about the right age for Frank Castle and he has right look for it too. As much as I would like Routh to get another shot at Superman it just isn't going to happen let's hope that whoever WB and Snyder picks he really can embody Superman like Reeve did.

I HOPE IT'S WELLING. :P But I'm perfectly fine with re-casting as long as it isn't Routh. But you knew that, didn't you?

Joe M. and Henry Cavill I wouldn't mind seeing be Superman. Those are the only two names that I keep hearing that I like for CK.

Probably will cast someone no one has said anything about though.

I mean ever since his appearance on Conan laughing at the fact he was too old. i had a feeling he really didn't want the part. It's cool because this Superman will be just starting out. So it will take a younger actor.

Brandon Routh is the best actor to be cast again as Superman....i think all that Superman needs is a nice story and some great action....Routh was good in Superman returns but the movie was not up to the mark.
