It seems the plethora of rumored claimants for the "assumed" female lead, Lois Lane, in Zack Snyder's
Superman reboot, may come to a halt with the ever-reliable
Variety revealing not only three new actresses in the running, but also that the female lead may not be Lois Lane after all. While it still doesn't rule out
that role, the site says:
"Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike have emerged as the three thesps being considered for the character, whose identity hasn't been disclosed. Early reports had names such as Rachel McAdams and Kristen Stewart as female leads, but sources tell Variety that the studio doesn't want a name that could overshadow its leading man."
You may remember British actress Alive Eve, who not only was a front-runner for Marvel's
Captain America film, but was also attached to Fox's
X-Men: First Class, before dropping out. Rosamund Pike has appeared in
Die Another Day and
An Education, while Diane Kruger is known for her roles in
National Treasure,
Troy, and
Inglourious Basterds.
And despite Variety's mention of these ladies not fighting for Lois Lane, because we don't know much about Zack Snyder's revision of the Man Of Steel, don't rule out the chief romantic interest just yet. Who do you think?
Anyhow, Henry Cavill will lead as The Man Of Steel, scheduled for big-screen Mid-December, commencing production in August.
