Three New Candidates For Superman Female Lead, But Not As Lois Lane?

Now revealed are three new female contenders for Zack Snyder's Superman reboot in Alice Eve, Diane Kruger, and Rosamund Pike, but NOT as Lois Lane? Check it out!

It seems the plethora of rumored claimants for the "assumed" female lead, Lois Lane, in Zack Snyder's Superman reboot, may come to a halt with the ever-reliable Variety revealing not only three new actresses in the running, but also that the female lead may not be Lois Lane after all. While it still doesn't rule out that role, the site says:

"Alice Eve, Diane Kruger and Rosamund Pike have emerged as the three thesps being considered for the character, whose identity hasn't been disclosed. Early reports had names such as Rachel McAdams and Kristen Stewart as female leads, but sources tell Variety that the studio doesn't want a name that could overshadow its leading man."

You may remember British actress Alive Eve, who not only was a front-runner for Marvel's Captain America film, but was also attached to Fox's X-Men: First Class, before dropping out. Rosamund Pike has appeared in Die Another Day and An Education, while Diane Kruger is known for her roles in National Treasure, Troy, and Inglourious Basterds.

And despite Variety's mention of these ladies not fighting for Lois Lane, because we don't know much about Zack Snyder's revision of the Man Of Steel, don't rule out the chief romantic interest just yet. Who do you think?

Anyhow, Henry Cavill will lead as The Man Of Steel, scheduled for big-screen Mid-December, commencing production in August.

Firstly Female lead doesn't necissarliy mean love interest. I can see anyone of those three actress playing Lara. And for all we know it could still be Lois Lane.

Dynamo, you're probably right, but they might throw in Lana Lang just for shits and giggles. I'm hoping they don't go overboard with an origin story but it could happen.

Yeah, I'm still not buying that it won't be Lois.

Alice Eve could pull off Lois but other than that I have to agree with Dynamo and say Lara. The others not really sure about.

Could we be in for a villainess?

Faora/Zaora? Livewire? Maxima?

He doesn't have that many female antagonists, so bringing in one of them would certainly set the film apart from any movie we've seen thus far...

If it's Clark in Smallville or just coming out of Smallville....probably Lana.

Oh, please, no Alice "bucky" Eve! She's not bad looking (as long as she doesn't show her teeth). LOL, CGI muscles are looking more likely with an August start day :D HA HA

this completely jumping into shark infested water but im gonna say maybeee Kara Zor-El a.k.a Supergirl!??
i mean it would be taking a complete different direction nd maybe they could have somewat of a close story line to Superman/Batman Apocalypse ofcourse without batman nd they would bring in darkseid as the villain would be interesting!??

I very much doubt that it's kara (aka supergirl). No way Nolen would have Superman and Supergirl in the same movie.

My moneys on Lana.

At first I was pissed at the idea of no Lois. But Alice Eve is extremely hott so whatever the role is...i hope they choose her.

I theorize they are going the "Rachael Dawes" route ie- Batman Begins. Bringing in a non-canon character...remember people- Nolan IS the producer so i'm guessing there will be a similarity with "Begins"

I doubt it's Cat Grant...like I said- a new non-canon character. "Rachael Dawes for Superman" ...LAME

If this movie doesn't have Lois, I'll be quite annoyed. In most versions, she's the one who names Superman (right?).
I'm hoping the'yre up for the role of Lara.

Yes, hopefully Lara. All are beautiful and can pass for Superman's mommy.

Martha Kent, not so much.

So wait... that whole part in the article where "sources tell Variety that the studio doesn't want a name that could overshadow its leading man." Maybe I'm looking too much into this, but this applies to casting a Lois Lane (if she is or isn't in the movie), too, am I right? Does that hint that some of our favorite contenders on the short list are eliminated? Do we assume that some of those big names we've been discussing all week like McAdams, Biel, Ackerman, and possibly Kunis and even Wilde, are not in the running anymore? And from that statement if Snyder goes the Rachel Dawes/Gwen Stacy route, this whole Lois Lane discussion is indefinitely over? Whatever. Superman is not Superman without Lois Lane. Period.

Either Lana, Mercy, Lara or Cat. Or possibly still Lois.

Like I said in a recent editorial, I could do without the Lois/Clark/Superman love triangle for at lest 1 film. I know Lois is a big part of Superman's story, but not the only part.

There is another female from younger Superman's life that no-one has mentioned yet - Lori Lemaris!
I think we can all agree that she is fairly unlikely.

I like all three.

It won't be Lara. They said they don't want her overshadowing Cavill and Lara is such a small role that they could cast Jolie and it still wouldn't overshadow Cavill...hey that's not a bad idea. They did cast Brando as Jor.
It probably is Lois (or Lana), but this Variety piece reminds us that we shouldn't assume.
I thought McAdams was a frontrunner, but they put her in the same catagory as Kristen Stewart, who we now know never screentested. So maybe our info's wrong there, too. I trust Variety more than the web, so these actresses need no grain of salt; They're sure to be screentesting. We might be looking at our next Lois.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead for Lois Lane.
Brandon Routh for Jor-El.
Laura Vandervoort for Lara-El.

Mmmm. Supergirl? A villain? I dunno. Kruger is the best actress by far. But I wouldn't be unhappy with any of them.
