Yesterday, receiving confirmation that Joseph Gordon-Levitt was officially signed on to re-team with his
Inception director, Chris Nolan, in his long-awaited
The Dark Knight Rises, word has gotten out who the actor will portray, via
Variety.
UPDATE: 3/21/2011 - Despite Variety's track record of truth-telling, this may actually be no more than a rumor. In fact, EW is now saying that their source says it ain't true.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt's will play Alberto Falcone, son of Mafia chieftain Carmine Falcone, who Tom Wilkinson played in “Batman Begins,” insiders tell Variety's Jeff Sneider. The younger Falcone would bring Christopher Nolan’s “Batman” trilogy full-circle, and fits with the director's stated intentions for continuity and “realistic” villains.
Even with this, Sneider tweets,
"Let me stress that no one with the authority to do so has CONFIRMED this info. Not WB, not reps and certainly not Nolan or other producers. Regardless, I trust my sources & stand by my story 100%. Do note that Comic Book Movie's original ALBERTO FALCONE rumor was removed. Hmmm..."
Anyhow, reprising their roles, Christian Bale, Morgan Freeman, and Michael Caine, with new additions of Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Marion Cotillard, and Levitt,
The Dark Knight Rises is slated for theaters July 20, 2012! What do you think?
