At this year's CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Warner Bros. explicitly revealed four movie clips and a new trailer for the Martin Cambpell-directed Green Lantern movie. With ComingSoon.Net being one of the lucky attendees, check out a great chunk of their description for the much-awaited footage screened, which acquired positive feedback.

The first clip begins with the title "Sector 2018" and we see Abin Sur using some fancy light-based controls on his ship and communicating with Mark Strong's Sinestro, who is telling him about a planet that's been destroyed by Parallax, but before getting too far into the conversation, Abin Sur is attacked by Parallax--we can't see it too clearly but it looks like a large yellow head with sharp teeth--and he gets seriously injured before flying away in his glass cylindrical spaceship.

The second clip has Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan finding Abin Sur's spaceship in the water and he runs out to try to save the being he sees in there. He wades out and pulls Abin Sur out of the ship and carries him to the beach, making a joke about having to get him to a hospital where they have purple blood. After giving Hal his ring and telling him to use it with the lantern in his spaceship, Abin Sur dies and his body transforms into some sort of grey substance.

The third clip has Hal with the lantern and ring back at his place. He places the lantern on a table and then slips on the ring, following the instructions to insert his hand and recite the oath, but the only oath he remembers is the Pledge of Allegiance, so he tries a variation on that, but the lantern rejects it, pushing him away with a green blast. Suddenly, Hal knows the oath that's required and he recites it as the ring glows and he's transported into the sky with a green hue surrounding him, out into space away from earth and the Milky Way and towards the planet OA. When he lands, he's in his full Green Lantern suit and mask and he tries to act cool like he belongs there by strutting around. He's called over by Tomar-Re, voiced by Geoffrey Rush, who is basically the OA welcome wagon, and Hal is surprised that he can understand the creature in front of him, and Tomar Re explains that the ring is translating and that it can also create a mask or not depending on whether Hal's identity needs to be kept secret.

The last clip has Sinestro addressing the massive Green Lantern Corps collected to warn them about Parallax having killed four of their members. This is a giant open space filled with Green Lanterns with a giant Green Lantern symbol behind Sinestro, and this is probably the scene that's going to have the biggest fanboys soiling their trousers because there are so many of the great Green Lanterns we've seen in the comics over the years and probably more than a few easter eggs. We don't know enough of their names by heart to expound at length about who we saw, but we did see a very familiar robotic GL and possibly even an Alpha Lantern in there.

For the description the trailer screened, head over to ComingSoon. In the meantime, look for Green Lantern in theaters June 17!

bonesmcgee - 4/1/2011, 12:43 AM
Green Lantern's weakness is NOT the actual color of yellow, it's the yellow light from Parallax releated aka Fear.

I second Guerillas comment. I would not however take the Abin Sur joke to seriously. It's probably like those sad scenes we always see when they tell the dying they are gonna make it. And even joking to cheer them up. Green Lantern is gonna be the best movie this year no doubt! Then follows Captain! But oh my god! GREEN LANTERN!!!!!!!

@gabe3096 - Yes I do read GL. He's also my favorite DC Character. So I know a little about him. Hal Jordan is NOT witty. What he is, is cynical. There's a HUGE difference. WB has made their Hal Jordan the proverbial "fish out of water" superhero to compensate for ryan reynolds acting style (van wilder anyone?). Now, Kyle Rayner is witty. He's actually very witty. But Hal Jordan? - ummmm.. NO. Hal Jordan is the only hero whose jaw didn't drop when he first meets Superman. Hal Jordan is the only hero who didn't buy into Batman's "fear me or else" BS. Hal wouldn't make little campy/witty jokes. That's not how Hal Jordan deals with his fear. He externalizes it and then moves forward. That's the reason; I might add; the ring sought him out in the first place.

Here's an analogy for you.(because you guys just aren't getting it). And this goes to why ryan reynolds isn't the right guy for Hal Jordan. (Kyle maybe, Flash definitely, but NOT Hal) - - If Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, & Hal Jordan were all standing in front of a wall that needed a board nailed into it to cover up a hole, each would take a different approach. Supes would check the other side of the wall first to make sure no one was there so as not to hurt them. WW would argue as to why the board needed to be nailed up by a goddess. Batman would analyze the wall, the nail, the hammer and the board for imperfections and what nots, to make sure the board was nailed to the perfect spot, at the perfect position so as to minimize long-term failure. Hal would just pick up the hammer and nail the board to the damn wall. No fuss, no huss. HJ is no nonsense. He's not witty/campy. And yes; in Hollywood at least; witty & campy mean the same thing.

Witty - "..who's scruffy looking?" [Han Solo/TESB]
Campy - making a joke about having to get Abin Sur to a hospital where they have purple blood [GL/GLLAM]

Witty - "..I can arrange that. You could use a good kiss!" [Han Solo/TESB]
Campy - but the only oath he remembers is the Pledge of Allegiance, so he tries a variation on that [GL/GLLAM]

Witty - "I don't care what you smell, get in there!" [Han Solo/ANH]
Campy - When he lands, he's in his full Green Lantern suit and mask and he tries to act cool like he belongs there by strutting around. [GL/GLLAM]

I could go on, but I'll stop there. You get the point. You don't know what you're talking about, so calm down.

I want this movie to be great, because I'm a big GL fan as I've already said. And WB/DC really needs some more live action characters out there. But not at the sake of the source material. And this is where Marvel really out-shines DC. Say what you want about them, but Marvel live action films respect the fans and on a larger scale, they respect the source material (at least the ones that Marvel Studios have done). Because DC is owned by WB, their hands are tied somewhat and there's a little "love-hate" going on but they need to get their heads out of their collective asses and respect the source material, or why else do it?
