Television commercials for Fox & Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class prequel have been finding their way online non-stop. And roughly three weeks from release, it's no surprise. Anyhow, the latest ad features a new line, "who's with me" from Magneto, as well a twirling somewhat-new look at Emma Frost.

X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men. Starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, and January Jones, the film releases June 3!

Can a X-Men: First Class hater out there please explain to me why they hate this movie but are anticipating the Avengers movie? It doesn't make much sense to me since they both "screwed up" there original team line up. The Avengers has a less darastically different team, but First Class has better reasons for their changes.

Damn IT! Yes Yes I wanted the orogonal 5 too but we will never get it. they probably think that original team was too boring. Im going to go see this and give it a chace. back in the 80's an X-MEN movie was a fantasy. This is the 5th one lets just all support it and hope for the best. Maybe when Singer stays the hell away from the X-MEN it will get better.

@bigshow2312 Dude very simple: X men First class only has 1 original member: Beast (Excluding Xavier)... In which Hank McCoy appears in Xmen 1 or 2 as his "human" self, and in this movie, which we all know is based on 20 to 30 years before X Men 1, he already transforms.

In the Avengers: we have the 4 original members out of 6. Hulk, Thor, Captain America and Iron Man.

The Avengers is not messed up, its actually pretty good, maybe for the Avengers 2 they will add Wasp and Ant man or Giant man. We all now they can't fit that many superstars/super heroes in 1 movie, especially the first

Deadpool813, Beast was in X2 for 10 seconds in his human form, but who's to say he wasn't using a hologram or some sort of syrum that made him normal for an hour or 2? We're all comic fans I think we could use some imagination here. Also, Cap wasn't an original member, so you only have 3 not 4 original members for the Avengers film. How bout we wait till the movies come out till we judge? Not using the original 5 does not mean First Class will be a bad movie, just a bad adaptation.

I'm so excited for this movie.

Sidenote. The avengers will be fun if Joss doesn't screw up the writing. He is responsible for the WORST line ever in any comic movie.."What happens to a toad when it's struck lightening..." yeah that was him. Whereas Vaughn as always delivered. SO let's wait and see. Besides this could lead into the original first class. I really believe if this does well it will be a reboot.

I don't know why, but I can't get excited over this, even if Jennifer Lawrence is a smokin' hot actress, way hotter than Rosie Huntington-Whitley (over at AICN, when discussing an early review of Transformers: Dark of the Moon, some nincom-[frick]in'-poop said that he likes that Rosie's #1 on Maxim's Hot 100).

But I would kill to see X-Men 4 happen, even if we all make rebooted fancasts. [frick] all this prequel bullshit.

That's an interesting theory.

Yea I'm just saying that just cuz something isn't explained in a movie doesn't mean it doesn't make sense. I really hope they do address the whole Emma Frost thing.

This prequel looks a lot better than all the other X-men films they've done before. The 1060's setting and the JFK Cuban Missile Crisis inclusion is something that will resonate with older cinemgoers. The fact that it's not the comic original team is sour grapes for those who actually thought they'd do a reboot. Fans simply have to understand they are sticking to their initial decision tot do the most popular characters at the time for the first movie back in 2000 especially with the low budget they had and little time to shoot the flick.

This renders the inclusion of Scott, Jean and Iceman to the team as impossible since they were in the current one already. Beast was presented as an original team member in X-Men 3 so naturally he returns for this new movie. And since the movies are about paying homage to the character concepts and not the comics timeline, we have Banshee, Havok, Emma Frost and others. It doesn't matter that that Alex Summers is older in the movie timeline becasue that's the way homage works.

Hey ! did everyone noticed the thing that magneto is grabing??? with the two hands in the 2 sticks... i think is an attempt of the machine we saw in x men 1 .... you know where he used rouge...

@adamwham - Joss Whedon's line that ended up in the final X film was not originally written in exactly the way it was used on the movie. He actually rewrote the entire end fight scene back when they still had Beast involved. The final version of the script and the re-use of his lines are all out of context with the final film so its not his fault. Joss has proved himself way too many times in other projects as an excellent writer and director which is why he's landed the Job doing Avengers in the first place.

Lmao MTL!!! Nothing wrong with sucking ;)

I agree, I always said they might do a time jump and do the X4 film with some of the First Class cast. Basically with time travel added anything could happen.

"This renders the inclusion of Scott, Jean and Iceman to the team as impossible since they were in the current one already..."

All they had to do was either NOT call this film First Class or forget the Cuban Missle Crisis and move the timeline to the 80s.

The Emma Frost thing is simple to explain, the problem is that you're all comic fans so you have a bias in your understanding. The sheer amount of inconsistencies in comics is something readers ignore or let slip, yet when they see the same in movies it becomes a big deal.

The movies at no point are attempting to follow the comics timelines and narratives 100%. Comics do not have budgets, movies do unfortunately and on the first X-film that budget was insanely small. This is why they opted to homage certain characters by their concepts instead of trying to stick to the ridiculously complex history of the comics. For example, without the budget to explain Rogue having Ms Marvel's super-powers as well as her own they had to stick to her true mutant power. Beast was out of the question simply becasue of the budget and since Wolverine was the most popular X character he had to be in the film.

Age and time means nothing if you stick to concentrating on the concepts alone, this is why You can have Shyla Silverfox (Not Silver Fox as she is in the comics) appear in the Wolverine movie with a sister called 'Emma" displaying one of the the powers we know Emma Frost to have, yet not be 100% the same character or with the same powers. In that film those powers are shared between the two sisters, one having tactile telekinesis and the other having the diamond form ability as well as the name Kyla 'Silverfox' being a surname not a codename "Silver Fox" as in the comic. So 'Emma' in the Wolverine film is not Emma Frost, She's Emma 'Silverfox'. Emma Frost and Silver Fox are not related in the comics and the end credits of that movie has her down as "Kyla's Sister/Emma".

So now we have X-Men first class and so they have an opportunity to pay more homage to more characters which is why the Emma Frost we know and love can be included along with the Helfire club. Banshee is also there but not the Irish Banshee from the comics, Alex Summers who may or may not be related to Scott since its the movie timeline and Beast as he was already establish as a original member from X-Men 3. Angel Salvadore has her original powers in this instead of her current ones. This is really the result of them shelving the 'X-Men Origins:Magneto' movie that was to accompany the not so popular Wolverine one, It's still essentially Magneto's origin story but results in the meeting with Xavier and the forming of the first mutant team.

Its only a movie, put aside your comic check-list and allow yourself to enjoy the homage without the bias and you'll be entertained like all the other cinema-goers.

@ceejay

oh I love joss dont get me wrong I just think sometimes he does amazing stuff and sometimes it's like okay wait..wtf. So The Avengers could go either way. Still excited.
plus I agree with everything you just said above me.

Comic book fans seem to always forget retconing and messed up timelines and redone origins time and time again when a movie does it. besides this looks like a legitimately good movie.
