With 20th Century Fox & Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class prequel out & about in theaters worldwide, it's no surprise production artwork for the praised film has found it's way online. Featuring fellow mutants Angel, Azazel, Beast and Emma Frost, check out their initial designs below, via concept artist Jerad S. Marantz, as well a quote from him!

"I always have fun on these comic book movies.I was on the film for a short time but was able to contribute. I just saw the movie today and really liked it. Here are a few designs I did."







X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men. Starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, and January Jones, the film released June 3!

The last one is how he should have looked...that's pretty damn close to the comics...and he looked like he was sunburnt in the movie

Beast looks pretty good there. He didn't look great in First Class but I thought his character was very well done. Azazel is way over the top in the concept, I thought he was great in the movie! Better than Nightcrawler in X2.

Hank should have had huge hands to match his feet.
Don't understand why they made Emma Frost's clothes turn to daimond as well.

the last two designs are really great, specially the Azazel one.

hopefully the sequel will explore the dark side of the character a bit.

he didn't say much in the film but he had a very brutal side to him.

The beast art looks better than what ended up in the movie. I'm annoyed that they had his limbs grow in girth during his transformation, but he looked like a furry toothpick in all of the long shots. He's supposed to be BIG damn it! And yes, I said GIRTH.

a mutant henchman with barely any dialog, who looks like the most over the top looking devil ever, would have been really distracting ha ha ha

So they were originally going to be Milla Jovovich, Dracula from Blade Trinity and the Wolfman remake?...No thanks. =P They made the right choices.

The prosthetics on Beast did not look great they should have gone full mo cap or some better prosthetics, you could tell Hoult (who was great as Beast by the way) found it hard to speak. The pick looks decent for beast not sure about the hand though.

Angel is awful, but Beast and Azazel look very good and comic acurate. I wish they did that Azazel and Beast but the movie still great. Emma is confusing. I am glad they didn´t went this way with her.

Beast is so hard to pull off. What they had was a cross between the older style beast and the new cat like beast. I agree with the idea he should have had big hands as well. But I guess it would not have tied into the story as they told it.

All together, I think the movie was really good. I look back at the first three and now wish they had started with this one. Or at least told the original movies in this way. It always bothered me that they focused on Wolverine WAY too much. I like him as much as the next guy, but give it a rest...

I am looking forward to what they do next...

They should have gone with that last image for Azazel.

They should have stuck to the way Kelsey Grammar looked in X-3.

Beast looks so much better. He looks pretty lame in both X3 and in First Class, though at least he had a good character in First Class. Still could've looked a LOT better.
