New Concept Art From THOR Reveals 'Balder,' Initial Designs For 'Sif' And More!

More conceptual art from Marvel's praised-cinematic adaptation of THOR has hit the net, revealing initial designs for Sif as well for an Asgardian absent from the film: Balder.

Likely used in the art book based on Marvel and Kenneth Branagh cinematic adaptation of Thor, more conceptual designs for the God of Thunder and his Warriors Three have hit the net. However, more interestingly, the art also features Balder the Brave, a well-known Asgardian who didn't make the final cut. And theres initial designs for an African American Goddess of War, Sif, likely considered to keep the mythology of her brother Heimdall, Guardian of the Bifrost, respectively accurate.

With THOR 2 slated for theaters July 26, 2013, hopefully Balder the Brave will be included this time around. What do you think?

Interesting that Sif was a black woman for so many takes... I wonder if they were considering a specific actress at the time.

Also interesting to see characters that never made the final film.

@ chewtoy

on sif being a black woman.it may of been because heimdall was black in the film & heimdall & sif are brother & sister in the comics.

Balder is probably my favorite Asgardian. I was a bit upset he didnt make it into the film.

Can someone tell me why most of these character designs weren't used? I mean seriously that armor especially Loki's is amazing.

Also I like that they were considering making Sif black for the movie, which means at some point they thought about keeping the whole brother sister thing that she and Heimdall have.

For Thor 2 I am hoping to see Balder, The Enchantress, and the Executioner.

If Sif was black then they should definitely have gotten Jessica Lucas to play her.

I like how Sif was drawn with a bodacious bootie.

Why did they ditch Hogun's facial hair? Not that it's important I am just curious

I hate the fact that concept art always looks AMAZING for any film, and then the final product is well....a little underwhelming. (that its the concept art is released before, if its after you always feel a little disappointed about the final outcome) That image of the girl in the white dress, who is kinda of Asian looking, is STUNNING!

@CatwomanLover agreed. LOTR being the only exception. Peter Jackson and his team are geniuses. Thor should ALWAYS wear his helmet. Hopefully we'll get to see that in the Avengers and Thor 2.

Loved the weird armor plating that Thor's Cape has in pic 5, but wow would that be hard to fabricate.
Also like the more reptilian arm plating in pic ten but it would've made our look a tad villainous.

@Akercocke: To wear his heavy looking helmet, he would need a chin strap to keep it on, which might piss off fans. I just think going helmetless was the best idea because of how bulky, uncomfortable, and distracting it could of been.

the Sif design with long hair is amazing.

All are amazing, really.

But Sif should have looked better than the movie version.

Dang. Those were all amazing looking. Too bad Balder wasnt in the film. Ah well. He'll be in the second one for sure.

Now personally I wouldnt care if Sif was black but you know after the reaction with Heimdall you know people wouldve been complaining.

They should've gone with the 5th picture's helmet. I love that design. It's awesome. Maybe he would've wore it more then. Funny how when his costume magically came back, the helmet was missing...lol

And Black SIf? OH MAN....The fanchildrens' heads would have exploded.

Nice concepts. Balder will be in Thor 2. The one with Thor's armor coming together is my favorite. Thor is my favorite CBM to date.
