Kenneth Branagh Briefly Weighs In On Patty Jenkins Directing THOR Sequel

Summed up in a few words, the director whose vision inspired Marvel Studios' original THOR movie, Kenneth Branagh, shares thoughts on the sequel's potential director.

Considering a majority of the Asgardian crew, from the original praised-Thor movie, have voiced their opinions on the sequel's potential director, Monsters director Patty Jenkins is undeniably tackling the God of Thunder for summer 2013; despite Marvel Studios' reluctance to confirm so. So far, we've heard from Chris Hemworth, Tom Hiddleston, Ray Stevenson, Joshua Dallas & Jenkins herself. So, as the headline reveals, take a scroll down for a new addition.

And now, chatting briefly with folks at Entertainment Weekly, the original director of the 2011 summer blockbuster, Kenneth Branagh, shares his thoughts on Jenkins and her likeliness to take over the franchise.

Monster was, I think, an absolutely sensational film. I think that she’s a great talent. As a possibility in the mix, I think that’s a tremendous idea.

For those who don't know, the sequel will follow the Norse God "literally" to other worlds on an adventure, with the Warriors Three, and recently-confirmed, Lady Sif, among other Asgardians. And also exploring Thor's deepening relationship with the all-father Odin, and love interest Jane Foster, look for the much-anticipated THOR 2 in theaters July 26, 2013.

Let's hope for the best, given that Marvel Studios sequels haven't been as great as the original takes on the characters... *cough Iron Man *cough

@marvader1 I know, and I actually really enjoyed IM2 specially when I watched it after watching Captain America and Thor... but let's just hope sequels become as good as, or greater than, the original ones

What marcvader1 said AlexdoxA. One sequel by Marvel and a good one in my eyes. It was a critical and box office success but you wouldn't know that according to all the haterz on this site who like to bash it just because it's the cool thing to do ;P

I haven't seen Monster, but I've heard nothing but good things about it, so hell yea bring it on Patty!

I LOVED Iron Man 2, sure it has it's moments, but ultimately I got to see 3 badasses on screen: Iron Man, War Machine, and Whiplash. Marvel did good with Iron Man 2, in tying in the Marvel Universe. But I agree with everyone when they say the fight scenes could of been longer.

I am looking forward to Thor 2. I don't know why all the hate for Iron Man 2. I think people just want to hate everything. The only thing I would have changed about Iron Man 2 was Whiplashes final suit design. I would have made his suit more sleeker, and faster posing more of a threat. Also the final fight would have been longer. Thor 2 will rock guys just keep the faith!

Hopefully its called something more than just Thor 2. Should be Thor: God of Thunder or The Mighty Thor or something of that nature.

I was hoping to be put at ease by Branagh's stamp of approval.

"I think that’s a tremendous idea." is word-play. But I'll hope for the best.

@0SageMode0 glad someone agrees! I think people just love to hate. Whiplash should have been more menacing by being faster, and more agile. Other than that IM2 was a worthy sequel. I would love for the Thor sequel to be titled Thor: The God of Thunder! Hopefully Jenkins can pull it off. That is if she is actually hired. If not bring Kenneth back!
